Guest guest
To the most respected Gurus and learned members of the SJC, I am presenting herein the assignments for Lesson 5. Since I am doing in detail review of basic concepts in Jyotish going through a number of basic texts, and it is taking time, herein I could include only the first 2 assignments. I will post the 3rd. assignment in due time. With my respects, Sabri. LESSON 5-ASSIGNMENT 1- Example of how a Lagna sign's characteristics and planets associated with the Lagna influences the personality for a native. For this I take the case of a native (a gentelman) who has Karka rising sign/Lagna, Chandra lord of Lagna, Lagnesh posited in third house of Lagna Kundali/horoscope, together with Guru. * Chandra is karak (significator) for emotions; Native is of sensitive and emotional nature, also a quality of Karka rashi. Also he had to deal and learn how to handle emotions, he has considerable education and practice in Psychology / The science of emotions and the mind. * Chandra is karak for Manas/Mind and People/Large groups of people/Public, and third house represents (among other things) Self- effort, those activities the native does in life to achieve goals; Native has worked, spent effort almost always by using his mind, and his efforts have been connected with the public. In his company the products he has designed are being used by the large public. Also he has spent considerable effort, to improve the qualities of the mind, e.g. the intellect, philosophy, reasoning etc. The dispositor of Chandra at 3rd. house/Kanya-Virgo Rashi is Buddha, signifying the intellect who for the native is further together with Shani signifying philosophy. * Chandra is further Karak for mother; Native has spent considerable effort to take care of her mother in her old age. Also when he was a child, he was raised almost solely by his mother, her mother has had a strong impact on the development of his character and abilities. * Chandra has Sattvic disposition and Karka being a Noble Rashi; Native is spending considerable effort for the well-fare of those people around him. He is well aware of the fact that what God expects out of everybody is to do their best to help others that are in need. * Chandra is associated with the night; he likes to work - do mental work, during the night, when the environment is peacefull. He is not much efficient in creativity and mental work during the active day. * Lagnesh Lord, Chandra is together with - associated with Guru, Guru signifying, learning, knowledge, teachers, saintly people, Guru is further of Sattvic disposition; Native respects deeply, knowledge, teachers, both spiritual and otherwise. Himself and most of his friends are saintly people who have aspired to seek the light of God. He is also exercising considerable effort to spread Spritual Knowledge around himself. * Guru for Karka Lagna, is lord of 6th. house signifying healing, servants and service; Since Guru for the native is together with Lagnesh, native has considerable knowledge of the Divine Science of Ayur-Ved, natural healing, he is using this knowledge for the well- fare of others, also good has come to him through good helpers, associates. * Guru further signifies good-luck along with good things; Native has been honest in his efforts, has worked in a way that would not harm anybody, and has been lucky is his efforts. * Chandra and Karka Rashi are associated with water; The native likes the sea, boats, swimming etc., and lives near the sea. * The following are the qualities of Karka Rashi which hold for the native; Adaptability-Native easily adapts to new people, he can go along with almost anybody. Changeable- Native has changeable emotions. Appreciation- Native likes to appreciate others, does not like so much to bring forward his own qualities. Deep meditation- Native is fond of meditation. Sleep and inaction- Native likes to sleep, needs a good nights sleep to be effective, and tends to be inactive physically from time to time. Loving guidance and teachers- Native as also noted in the above seeks for guidance especially that of spiritual guidance, he is not the type that says "I know better, and I do not need any advice". Feminine- Native even though a man, is soft, gentle, carefull about other peoples emotions and caring, he does not like harsh, cruel arrogant people. Religious- Native is fond of, has interest in and has studied, not only his own religion, but also other religions, he has respect for all religions that God has created. Strong Grasp- Karka rashi with the symbol of a crab, has a strong hold of things, does not easily let go- Native takes care and values friends, relatives etc., he can not easily just walk-away, also he has collected different collectible items in time, to which he is attached to a certain degree. Sustenance, The Crab, symbol of a Rashi, has a strong outer shell but is soft inside- The native is enduring, especially through and using his own efforts (Chandra in 3rd. house) but he has soft and somewhat delicate emotions inside that he does not like share or show. 2- Exaltation Rashis of Grahas Each Graha apart from the Rashis he/she owns, has a specific Rashi, where he/she is Uccha / Exalted, e.g. shines with all glamor, splendor and might. (The Rashis which the Grahas own has been dealt with in the previous lesson). In his/her exaltation Rashi a Graha renders best results, e.g. most auspicious, favorable and least inauspicious and unfavorable. In aspiring to acount for the exaltation Rashis of Grahas we should consider the KalaPurusha Kundali/Chakra, eternal time personified (Kala-time, Purusha-Divine person/man). This chart which has Mesha/Aries Rashi as Lagna, is also known as the Chart of God, and the Chart of Nature, the most basic chart that is the basis of all of creation (According to some authorities Grahas are posited in their Rashis of Exaltation in the KalaPurusha). In this chart at least some of the qualities of Rashis coincide with those of the houses. Taking as an example parts of the human body; the Rashi that rules a specific part of the body coincides with the house that rules the same part of the body. E.g. 3rd. Rashi Mithune, and 3rd. house both rule the throat, shoulders, arms, and hands etc. Surya, the King, the ruler, core and supporter of everything in our solar system gets exalted in the 1st. Rashi, Mesha/Aries, which is 1st. house in KalaPurusha. According to Parashara, 1st.house, Lagna is the first and everything for the native, is the basis core of all the kundali/chakra. So Surya, being the ruler of all, and source, sustainer of all, likes to rule from there, He is exalted, confortable, most strong, when he is posited at the core of his kingdom. Furthermore Mesha/Aries Rashi is associated with leadership. 1st. house and Mesha Rashi rules the "head" in the body. >From 1st. house Surya is aspecting 7th. house of everybody else, (7th. house Drishti or Glance) the others around him. So from 1st. he is watching over, ruling, everybody else in his kingdom represented by the 7th. house. Chandra, the Queen, is most powerfull next to the King. She likes to rule from her place next to Surya's, so she gets exalted, most strong in the next Rashi; Vrishabha/Taurus. Chandra signifies the mother energy, taking care and feeding the whole family, so the immediate family at the birthtime of the native being signified by the 2nd. house is the place where Chandra is exalted. Also Vrishabha/Taurus Rashi is associated with farms, agriculture, feeding etc. Chandra signifies emotions; Vrishabha Rashi and 2nd. house signifies the face, associated with emotions (face being the organ showing the emotions) and feeding/the mouth. Chandra also signifies Manas/Mind; and Chandra from her exaltaion Rashi is aspecting hence ruling over the 8th. house of the science of psychology of the mind, the subconscious, intiuition quality of the mind (including Jyotish), and transendence quality of the mind. All of these qualities are associated also with Vrishchik/Scorpio Rashi, which is the 8th. house in the KalaPurusha Chakra. 8th. house (together with 6th. house) is the house of diseases, and healing, hence further associated with Chandra-healing. Finally as Lagna is the Rashi/house rising at the eastern horizon, 8th. Rashi/house is that which is about to set at the western horizon, hence associated with the night (Chandra), the subconscious (other side of the earth) transcending etc. Mangal is the commander, army general in the planetary cabinet, he is associated with action, activity, fighting, courage and strength. It is most natural for Mangal to show his valour in the field of activity, signified by the 10th. house of activity for KalaPurusha, Makara / Capricorn Rashi. In the outside active field of life, he is exalted and most prominent displaying all his qualities. In other words, activity is the field where Mangal best displays his abilities. From there with his special 4th. house aspect, he is watching over, and providing protection for Surya the king who is exalted in the 1st. house. His 7th. house aspect provides protection for the 4th. house the home also, signified or owned by Chandra, the Queen and the mother. The special 8th. house aspect further provides protection for the 5th. house again owned by Surya the king. Buddha is the prince in the planetary cabinet, he is being educated and raised to replace the king in the future in the royal palace, hence he is most prominent, and shining in his own Rashi Kanya / Virgo, which is also his Rashi of Mooltrikona. In other places than his own Rashi he is not yet prepeared to display his qualitites. But when he is educated and has enough experience he will be sent to rule over to distant and far away states to get prepeared to rule the whole kingdom. Distant and far away places is signified by the 12th. Rashi of the KalaPurusha, where Buddha is aspecting from the 6th. Rashi / House of the KalaPurusha. Buddha further signifies communication, friendship etc., commuting and diplomacy, (going back and forth) which is associated with distance. We also notice that Surya is exalted and ruling over the 1-7 axis, Chandra the 2-8 axis and Buddha the 6-12 axis, e.g. Royal characters taking care of the central portion of the KalaPurusha, Chandra and Buddha at two sides of the main ruler, the king, Surya. Guru is signifiying, happiness, well-being, luck knowledge and teachers. Guru the divine teacher will display his most prominent quality, knowledge at home signified by the 4th. house of the KalaPurusha, Karka / Cancer Rashi, Guru's Ashram, hence he will naturally be exalted there. Home is associated with tranquility, safety, inwardness, deep meditation, protection and peace, the qualities needed for learning, teaching and sadhana. With his 5th. house aspect, Guru will aspect, and take care of the 8th. house of transcendence, the subconscious, and of transformation, all qualities being related to Guru, knowledge. Knowledge and the teacher / Guru will be needed to transcend daily chores, and achieve Samadhi, towards eternal happiness. Without the divine guidance of the Guru, life will be spent being tossed around here and there in the activity and desires of daily life, and happiness will not be within reach. Guru also aspects with his 7th. house aspect, the 10th. house of activity in the KalaPurusha. Knowledge is needed in activity to be successfull. Without knowledge one is wasting away energy here and there, not achieving anything substantial. Even the mighty fighter Mangal (who is exalted in 10th.) needs the guidance of the divine teacher, his valour and courage is fit for the battlefield of life, but is actually weak under certain circumstances and problems of life. A very striking and clear example of this is given in the Song of the Divine; The Bhagavat Gita, between Shri Krishna the divine lord and teacher, and Arjuna, the mighty archer who is known to win over 1,000 archers with using only one hand. With all his immense power a certain situation on the battlefield (where he notices that he is supposed to kill his relatives in the opposing army), the Kurukshetre rises where he does not know what is right to do, and is left shaking unfit for such a man of valour. He is only shaken, and regains his strength by the wisdom of Lord Krishna, whereby the divine teaching starts which is the basis for everything in life, even for a mighty archer. Guru further aspects the 12th. house / Rashi in the KalaPurusha, with his 9th. house aspect. 12th. house is associated with Ashrams, Moksha - liberation and enlightenment. These qualities are all associated with the divine teacher, Guru. Without the divine guidance of the Guru, life after lifetimes are spent in bondage to worldly and transient desires, new karma gets created all the time, hence no possibility of escape from this transient type of happiness intermixed with the sorrows of life. Final liberation, Moksha, from the cycle of karma into eternal life and real and everlasting happiness and bliss is only possible under the guidance of the Divine Guru, and through long sadhana at a suitable peacefull place which is the Ashram. 12th. Rashi / house is further the ruling area of Buddha the prince, (as noted above) where he is needfull of his teachers guidance for success. Shukra is exalted in the 12th. Rashi Meena / Pisces, the 12 th. house of the KalaPurusha. Shukra signifies conveyances, associated with distant places (12th. house), desires, conforts and luxury, associated with expenses (12th. house). The never-ending worldy desires find fullfillment also only in the 12th. house of Moksha and liberation (as noted in the above). Shukra is also associated with the senses, through which we perceive distant things (12th. house) e.g. seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting, activities of perception mostly of distant objects, which are all outside of the body. Desires if not in accordance with Dharma and the expectance / guidance of God and the Guru gives rise to continuous suffering and dis-ease in life. This is signified by the 7th. house aspect of Shukra aspecting the 6th. house the KalaPurusha. Buddha is exalted and ruling in this same house, this is in accordance with the fact that Buddha the prince is enjoying his young age with all the royal luxuries, conforts and conveyances that are given to his disposal with no effort from his side. Shani signifies the hard-working servant. He is subdued at the place where the King is exalted / ruling e.g. the 1st. Rashi of the KalaPurusha, and Shani is exalted at the place farthest away from this place e.g. the 7th. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha, Tula / Libra Rashi. 7th. house as noted above signifies "others" than the native, those surrounding him. We can see that the king is surrounded and served by the servants, e.g. Shani (through his 7th. house aspect), who is exalted in service. Also Shani would be most at ease and confortable farthest away from the King, e.g. when he is not around. We should note that the 3rd. house aspect of Shani who signifies hard-work is associated with the 3rd. house of "self- effort" in a chart. So when Shani is posited in the 1st. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha, he is Neecha / subdued, most weak, which signifies most effort which coincides with the 3rd. Rashi / house (self-effort) of the KalaPurusha. The 10th. house aspect of Shani from his exalted state in 7th. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha is taking care of and serving at the home, signified by the 4th. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha. Regarding the shadowy Grahas, Rahu and Kethu, there are some discrepencies between the views of different authorities but we can consider the following regarding one general view. Kethu acts like Mangal, e.g. signifying cutting, transcending etc. Hence Kethu is most confortable, powerfull, strong and exalted in one of Mangal's Rashis, e.g. Vrischik / Scorpio. In the KalaPurusha, Vrischik is the 8th. house of transcendence, also Vrischik has to do with secrecy, the occult, the unknown (including Jyotish to see what is not directly apparent e.g. the hidden) coinciding with similar qualities of Kethu. Kethu further signifies mathematics associated with the basis of Jyotish. Kethu's 9th. house aspect coincides with the 12th. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha both this house and Kethu signifying inwardness, secrecy and moksha. Kethu's 9th. house aspect coincides with the 4th. house of the KalaPurusha, the home, again signifying similar qualities of inwardness and peace (related to Moksha). When Kethu is exalted in Vrischik Rashi, Rahu who is always 7 house away from him is also exalted in Vrishabha / Taurus Rashi, which is the second Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha. The Rashis in succession in the KalaPurusha chakra signify steps of evolution for the human. E.g the lagna signifies birth and the self, while the second Rashi / house signifies the first expansion / environment of the human associated with his family at childhood, and the first expression e.g. sound or speech. Rahu's exaltation fits perfectly here, since Rahu signifies restlessness, and outward expansion and energy. Rahu's 5th. house aspect coincides with the 6th. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha. Rahu acts like Shani, giving unease and distress, while the 6th. house is the house of dis-ease. Rahu's 9th. house aspect coincides with the 10th. Rashi / house of the KalaPurusha, that of activity. Rahu's expansive and out-going restlessness is needed in activity, together with Mangal who is exalted here they represent action which is at times quite sudden, fierce and unexpected (unexpected things being a signification of Rahu).
