Guest guest
Dear Shreeya, When a planet is debilitated but is strong in the vargas it helps to remove some of the debility in general; it is strengthening. So if the planet has the nature to do evil, it is increased. When debilitated good indications are disturbed and bad indications are increased. When exalted whatever is indicated is increased (good or bad). To determine if the effect will be to do good or bad you have to consider the planets natural and temporal nature as a benefic or malefic, what houses it owns, and what condition it is in (retrograde, dusthana, combust, avastha). We learn from BPHS that lords of 3, 6, and 11 are always malefic and that lords of 2, 8, and 12 give the effect of planets in them or the second sign they rule over. The effect the planet will have will be on three things: its significations, planets is aspects or conjoins, and houses it occupies or aspects. I hope this is helpful, there are so many refinements that may be made and exceptions for certain conditions. There is a good summary of 18 principles of interpretation that explain how to balance these considerations on pages 262-266 in Light on Life (Hart deFouw, Robert Svoboda).
