Lesson five:

1. My chart Lagna is Sagittarius- ruler is in 5th house in Aries

in conjunction with the moon.

Sagittarius as Pitta/dual/sattwa- I am generally honest and upright

but can be hasty and impulsive and restless through the Aries

influence. Jupiter as Guru teaches the Moon as mind

religious/spiritual things – hence my strong interest in learning new

religious/spiritual themes but always in a hasty and impulsive manner

due to the Aries influence.

Sagittarius as lagna rules the thighs- Jupiter is in Aries-which

represents lots of movement-I like to walk or bicycle to work and

generally as I have no car and am otherwise quite healthy and sporty-

5th house represents stomach - my digestion is very good due to

Benefic planets there and being in Pitta sign aries.

2. a) Sun- own sign is Leo- exaltation is in Aries- own sign and

exaltation sign are fairly obvious as the sun is fiery, dry and

unpredictable just as the two signs Leo and Aries.

b) Moon- Cancer is own sign-this is because the moon as a female

planet is emotional and sensitive like the cancer sign

Taurus is sign of exaltation – this is due to the pure,

sensitive female nature which enjoys the beauty, luxury and comfort

of Taurus.

c) Mars own sign is Aries- this is due to the impulsive, brutal,

mindless, energy of Aries.

Own sign is Scorpio- due to the uncaring insensitivity to others of

this sign.

Exaltation of Mars in Capricorn- this is a movable sign which is good

for Marsian energy and also emotionally cold and practical and

therefore suitable to Mars.

d) Mercury –Gemini is own sign- represents intellectual capacity

and communication

Virgo as own sign is also intellectual but nervous and

physically weak

Virgo is sign of exaltation as Mercury relies on intellect and

not physical strength.

e) Venus- own sign is Taurus- due to the fact that Venus is the

personification of femininity which is represented by luxurious

beauty.

Libra as other own sign represents the fine things in life such as

aesthetics, money necessary as well for Venus to fulfil

feminine/cultural goals as well as the goals of luxury in Taurus.

Sign of exaltation in Pisces- due to its very sensitive, intuitive,

feminine, emotional nature.

f) Jupiter- own sign Sagittarius- due to the fact that Jupiter

is a king and rules in a royal, strong but genial and relaxed (dual)

sign

Own sign Pisces- due to the deep religious and spiritual, satwa

nature of Pisces and the religious satwa nature of Jupiter.

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer as Jupiter is benefic and

satwik and feels at best in an emotionally sensitive, positive sign.

g) Saturn own sign is Capricorn- as this is a very serious,

pragmatic, cautious sign

Own sign is also Aquarius due to its dryness, honesty, stoicism and

hardworking attitude.

Exalted in Gemini as unemotional Saturn enjoys an

emotionally neutral, intellectual atmosphere.

h) Rahu- Aquarius is own sign- Rahu is expansive- seeks new

ideas and experiences similar to Aquarius.

Exalted in Gemini as Gemini is curious, friendly, learned and

outgoing which Rahu is also as a spy or explorer.

i) Ketu -Scorpio is own sign Secretive, sensitive, hiding nature

ideally suited to Scorpio-

Exalted in Sagittarius due to both having an essentially deep,

spiritual nature.

3. a) Mercury-

Gemini- Airy / Dual

Virgo-Earthy/ Dual

Both signs are intellectual but Gemini is strong and outgoing in

personality whereas Virgo is nervous, sickly and shy.

In Gemini Mercury is much more open as an air sign whereas for the

earthy sign Virgo Mercury remains concentrated on more physical

objects such as the bodyor land and plants for its pursuits.

b) Venus – Taurus- Earthy/Fix

Libra- Airy/Movable

Both signs are interested in beauty, harmony but Taurus as an earth

sign is interested in these qualities in a concrete manner in the

form of luxuries and physical beauty whereas Libra is more interested

as an air sign in those things which facilitate communication and

harmony between people such as diplomacy, banking, amusement parks.

Due to the earthy, fixed nature of Taurus, its lordship concentrates

on enjoying the acquired physical objects whereas due to the

airy/movable nature of Libra the constantly new attainment of

communicative harmony takes priority.

c) Mars- Scorpio –Watery/Fixed

Aries- Fire/Movable

Scorpio is as a watery symbol quite emotional but as the

imagery of the scorpion conveys it is in a waiting position to attack

or be attacked and is mostly in hiding and secretive. Aries is of

course as a movable fire sign always on the move, full of energy and

straightforward in his tactics.

The lordship is different inasmuch as Mars behaves in a fiery, direct

manner in Aries but takes on a waiting, indirect, emotional pose in

Scorpio.

d) Jupiter – Sagittarius- Dual/Fire

Pisces- Dual/Watery

Whereas Sagittarius is a place for official matters such as for the

king, church, etc. Pisces is a place for the personal emotional

matters such as the suffering of prisoners and the sick in hospitals

and prisons and for deeper spirituality.

In Sagittarius Jupiter is self confident, genial and open whereas in

Pisces he reacts more timidly and intuitively.

e) Saturn- Capricorn-Earthy/Movable

Aquarius-Airy/Dual

Whereas Capricorn is good for patience, wit, pragmatism Aquarius is

good for honesty, openness and philosophy.

In Capricorn a planet is coloured by the movable behaviour related to

concrete objects and in Aquarius by the communication of ideas in one

place.
