i am just a beginner & i get confused about so many things such as the

parivarthana yoga between the 9 th 12th lord mercury & 10th lord moon in case

of my libra ascendent for which budh is the functional malefic=?, further my

7th lord is mars which is in the 12th house with moon the 10th lord forming a

raj yoga in dushtana house conjunct rahu=?so i can't answer these questions my

self & thats why i asked for help, sorry for imposing, thanks a lot,

I am really glad that i joined this group.

 

Sanjay, i would like to know, how is it known whether the particular planet is a

benific or a malefic planet, in a certain horoscope. Or is it that is the rule

applies to all the horoscope that a specific planet has to be considered as

malefic/benific.

The Natural malefecence or benefecence of Grahas are given almost

in all Jyothish books...

 

Saturn, Mars, Sun, Afflicted Mercury, Krishna paksha Moon and

Nodes (Rahu and Ketu) are all Malefics. Jupiter, Venus, Unafflicted

Mercury and Sukla Paksha Moon are all Benefics. This is the natural

characteristic of these Grahas (Planets).

 

In addition there is what is called functional nature, which

depends on the Horoscope. For example, for Libra and Taurus natives,

Saturn (though Natural Malefic) becomes a functional benefic.

 

Please read the first few chapters of BPHS, BV Ramans "Hindu

Predictive Astrology" Or Narasimha ji's "Vedic Astrology, Integrated

Approach", for a clear understanding.

Dear Jyoti,

We welcome the divine in you at Sri Achyuta Gurukula and hope that this journey

together shall be enlightening.

In the first place let me clarify that there is nothing called benefic and

malefic. There is nothing that is purely black and white, and this is true with

life as well. Nobody is perfectly good or perfectly bad.

Intrinsic nature

The first thing about a planet is its intrinsic nature as subha, krura or paapa.

Subha means good and auspicious in its behavior and thoughts. These are Jupiter,

Venus, Mercury and Moon. Krura means rough and ill behaved but does not imply

having bad thoughts. A planet can be krura and still be very satvic like the

Sun. Ketu can also fall into this group as it is very very krura but not a

paapa, although many may disagree with me (its OK lets get along). Then come

the paapa where Mars, Saturn and Rahu are definitely bad not only in their

deeds but also in their intentions and thoughts. This can be simply translated

as a very nice western movie of Clint Eastwood - "the good, bad and the ugly".

This is important in judging the intrinsic nature of people as well as their

ruling planets will decide their true nature.

Functional nature

Functionality has to do with a planet woking for someone and is beneficial for a

certain purpose or otherwise. This is where the word 'benefic' and malefic have

relevance. Mars can be very bad by nature but is a benefic for Aries and will

use its means to bring benefit to its house. Hitler, Emperor Ashoka are some

examples of people who benefited from the traits of Mars. The more they waged

wars, the stronger they became.

Sambandha

This is a very big topic and cannot be covered here. I will be giving detailed

notes for those attending the workshops and due course this will also be sent

to these lists.
