Beginner-level ishta devata and D-20 query

Hi all,

 

Need some help. How does the chara karakatwa of the planet representing the

ishta devata matter? I was thinking of the situation where in the 12th from

karakamsha lies the GK. Won't choosing as ishtadevata the deity represented by

it strengthen the rival, in a way?

 

Regarding vargas higher than D-12, we've been taught as taking the remainder

after division by 12 to ascertain what the varga represents in a higher plane.

D-20 would then represent a higher level of the 8th house. What's that got to

do with kula devata, etc? If at all, it should be a multiple of either the 2nd

or 9th house, isn't it? Why the house of diseases and life?
