Q1: In your own chart, explain how a lagna's characteristics and planets

connected with that lagna sign influence the native's personality and health.

 

I have used my own chart(attached):

Lagna is aquarious. Aquarious is lorded by rahu and saturn. None of them are in

aquarious and alone. Rahu aspected by Jup (rashi dristi)and also exaulted. So

rahu is stronger that Sat. As my lagna lord - Rahu will have more say than Sat.

 

Physical traits:

As an Aqu lagna, I have middle stature (5'9"), stout but thin body (water

resorter rashi), long face, broad shoulder. Sat and Jup aspects lagna. Sat

aspect gave darkish complexiion. Jup aspects gives a broad forehead.

 

Personality:

Aqua is a tamasic rashi, but lord Sat is in Can, a rajasic rasi. So rajasic

gunas are more dominant. Quoting from lesson 4, "Rajas are the activating

qualities that motivate us, through passion, to pursue desires and goals. The

eventual

outcome of Rajas is grief. Rajasic qualities are: occasional truthfulness with

selfish motive, fickleness,

adroitness, over-seriousness, smartness, impulsiveness, demonstrativeness,

meddling, sanguine, fastidious,

lively, and the tendency to equip oneself with information about the environment."

 

Mental traits:

As per COVA, Aqua natives have strong will, intellectual abilities and taste,

scientific persuits and strong memory. They are open and truthfull, silent but

cheerfull, friendly and intersted in occult studies.

 

11th lord Jup, being my AK and in 9th house as well as due planet concentration

in my 8th house - created my interest in astrology and occult studies. The

interest and desire for the same is also shown by grahadristi of both the lagna

lord on 8th house. An interesting observation here that Mer, Moon & Ven are

giving secondary argala on asc from 8th house but lagna lord Sat is countering

it from 6th. But 8th argala is stronger-so inspite of diversions, my study

continues.

 

Moon rashi is virgo. Virgo natives are analytical. 6th lord Moon in 8th, made me

secretive. This is also Moon's maranakaraka place.

 

Mercury is ahead of Sun. This gave me tendencies to go against all set dictums

and act only according to my own percieved logic.

Question 2: Explain the reason for the exaltation and ownership of all the planets.

 

A planet's own sign is it's home and the planet is most comfortable there.

In it's exaltation sign it is really happy and at it's best capacity.

It's Moolatrikona sign is it's office to carry out normal duty.

 

Sun:

Sun is the natural karaka for self, is kshatriya King and keeper of dharma.

 

OWN/MT:

Leo is both his own and MT sign. It is fire sign, 5th house (children &

intelligence) and one of the houses of the dharma trikona of the natural

zodiac. So Sun is comfrtable here to do his duty of keeping dharma, to give

life, intelligence and raja yoga

EXAULTATION:

Sun enjoys to promote life and personality. Aries is the natural 1st house of

the zodiac, also another sign of the dharma trikona. 1st house represent self.

So naturally Sun is exaulted here. Sun's primary duty is to keep dharma of the

soul and ultimately leading it to mokhsa. So Sun is exaulted in the star

Aswini-rulled by mokhsakaraka Ketu.

DEBILITION:

The Sun sets in west. The direction of Libra is west. It is also natural 7th

house representing other than self. Naturally Sun is debilitated in Libra.

ANOTHER VIEW:

The zodiac is the planetary cabinet. The first house or sign should be occupied

by protocol by the King as the Ist citizen. Sun is the king of planetary

cabinet. Hence he should be exalted on his thrown in the Ist sign Aries. A king

enjoys power and position only when attended by the commander in chief Mars and

the servant Saturn. Aries is the sign owned by Mars, the commander in chief of

the planetary cabinet. The King is attended on either side (Pisces and Taurus

by Venus the courtesan and the Queen Moon).

Libra is owned by courtesan (damsel). When the king visits the court damsel, the

king looses his authority. Hence is debilated in Libra.

 

In the King's palace of Leo nobody can be either exalted or debilated. Hence

free from exaltation or debilitation

Moon:

The Moon signifies mother and he is also the queen of the planetary cabinate.

She wants to nourish, feed and sustain us and keep her children happy.

 

OWN/MT:

4th house signifies mother, home and happiness. So Moon is comfortable in the

natural 4th house and also doing her duties from natural 4th house cancer. So

cancer is her both own house and office.

EXAULTATION:

The mother is most happy when her child is fed and are wealthy. Taurus is the

natural 2nd house signifying food, sustainance and wealth. So moon is exaulted

in Taurus.

DEBILITION:

Scorpio is natural 8th house signifying end of life. The mother moon is

therefore naturally debilated here.

ANOTHER VIEW:

The place next to the King shall go only to the Queen. Hence Moon is exalted in Taurus.

Scorpio is owned by Mars, the commander in chief. When Moon the Queen visits the

quarters of subordinate she is humbled. Hence is debilated in Scorpio.

Mars:

Mars rules physical strenght. He is also the Chief of the army in the planetary

cabinate, rules courage, war, accident and death.

 

OWN/MT:

Aries is the natural 1st house signifying physic. His duty is to provide us

energy and strength, so it is his office (MT). Aries, being a fire sign gives

Mars the environment he needs to carry out his duties.

Scorpio is the natural 8th house ruling death. So it is also ruled by Mars

EXAULTATION:

Mars represent action. So he is very happy in Capricorn, the natural 10th house

signifying proffesion, work, action, success and accomplishment.

DEBILITION:

Cancer is an watery sign, 7th from Capricorn. This is the natural 4th house of

happyness. So fiery Mars do not like to be happy and relax, being a fire

element has no power in a watery sign as well as all its energy sets there. So

he is debilated in Cancer.

ANOTHER VIEW:

Capricorn is the quarters of the servant and soldier Saturn. Mars visits the

barracks of soldier. He the commander in chief visits with authority. Hence is

exalted there.

Mars the commander in chief visits the Queen's palace to carry out the commands

or run errands of the Queen. Hence he is debilated in Cancer

Mercury

He is young crown prince - always playfull and likes to have fun. He represents

earthly intellect, communication, skill, debates, logic, competition etc.

Being always in search of new knowledge - when he is ahead of king Sun, the king

has no control on him and he is reluctant to follow the rules set by the king.

OWN:

Gemini is the natural 3rd house of action, skill and communication and

copulation. So Mercury is comfortable there and it is his own house. Here his

playfulness comes to full strength and copulation resides.

M/T AND EXAULTATION:

Virgo is the natural 6th sign of affluence, competition, science i.e. searching

for knowledge(Dhimantah), debate, loan etc. So Mercury is very happy to be

there and perform its duty. So Virgo is his office also and he is also exaulted

there. Mercury being a crown prince, happy to be affluent here- but he enjoys

money earned by the king (loan).

DEBILITION:

He is a rajasic planet and does not like teaching. He wants to follow his own

intellect. So he is debilated in the satwik house of guru and in proximity of

the king's thorne.

Jupiter:

He is the rajaguru, sattvic brahmin whose job is to teach and advice the king

how to uphold dharma.

OWN/MT:

Sag is the natural 9th house of traditional dharma. This is a fire sign. So Jup

is performs his duty from here to teach dharma which burns all ignorance.

Pieces is the natural 12th house of mokhsa, meditation etc. So Jup is comfortable here.

EXAULTATION:

Cancer is the natural 4th house of happyness and learning. So Jup is exaulted

here to teach. He enjoys happiness and also learns here as best teacher is

never tired of learning.

DEBILITION:

Being a peace loving sattwik planet, he hates action represented by the natural

10th house - so he is very uncomfortable in sign capricorn. Cap is also owned

by saturn who restricts and cause misery. That is also a reason jup is unhappy

there as he wants to expand his knowledge.

ANOTHER VIEW:

Jupiter is the preceptor and further has a very respectable place in the Queen's

palace when he visits Cancer. Hence Jupiter is exalted in Cancer.

Jupiter the preceptor and prime minister by visiting the quarters of a servant

looses his dignity and status. Hence Jupiter is debilated in the house of

Saturn - Capricorn.

Venus:

She is rajasic, Brahmin, represents marriage, passion and sex, giver of all

earthly comforts, pleasures and luxuries.

 

OWN/MT:

Taurus is the natural 2nd house of family and wealth. Ven is comfortable here.

Libra is the natural 7th house representing marriage, spouse and fertility. So

it is her office to perform her duties.

EXAULTATION:

Pieces is the natural 12th house of loss, expenditure and bed pleasure. All

earthly comforts and luxuries brings loss of self. So venus is very happy to be

here.

DEBILITION:

Virgo is owned by argumentative and knowledge searching mercury. Venus, giver of

luxury-does not like this. So he is unhappy here.

ANOTHER VIEW:

Pisces is owned by Jupiter. Venus, the damsel, being in the house of respected

Jupiter in the proximity of the king is exalted.

Virgo is owned by Mercury, the finance minister in the planetary cabinet. Venus

the courtesan is debilated in the house of the finance minister, personally

visiting for financial aid.

Saturn

He is a phylosopher, wants us to work hard. He represents an old rigid man, he

is cold and practice restrictions in all possible ways.

OWN/MT:

Capricorn is the natural 10th house of karma. Saturn is comfortable here.

Aquarious is the natural 11th house of gains and elder brother. So this is the

MT (office) of saturn from where he gives us the fruit of karma and guides us

like elder brother. 11th house is also an upachaya house. So saturn is happy

here to perform his duties and guide us gradually to accomplishments.

EXAULTATION:

Natural 7th house is opp to self and self is resitrcted here. The inherents

nature of saturn is restricting- so he is very happy here.

DEBILITION:

Saturn being a cold restrictive planet, dislikes being in the fiery environment

of heat and energy for self expansion. So he is most uncomfortable in Aries,

the natural 1st house.

ANOTHER VIEW:

When the king visits the court damsel, he is dependent on the servant sudra

Saturn. In the house of a damsel the king looses his authority and the servant

Saturn is the master of the situation (arranging meeting of Damsel Venus and

King Sun) and is exalted.

Saturn, the servant is debilated (humbled) in Aries due to the authority of the

King and Mars, the commander in chief.

Rahu:

Being the head without any body. So it has only mind full of desires without any

ability of performing karma. He is the criminal with greed and looking for

material gains by hook or by crook. He gives lust and fighting.

 

OWN/MT:

Aquarious is the natural 11th house of material gain and badhakasthana for soul

(Aries). So rahu, is comfortable here to give material gains and thus creat

obstruction to soul's progress.

Virgo is the natural 6th house (dusthana) of fights, arguments, problems and

dsiturbances. So rahu is happy performing his diabolocal activities from here.

EXAULTATION:

Gemini is the natural 3rd house, the 1st house of the kama trikona where actions

are generated out of desire. So rahu is very happy to be there and instigating

wrong actions for quick material gains.

DEBILITION:

Sagatarious is natural 9th house of dharma. Rahu being full of desire and

adharmic-cannot be happy in this sign.

Ketu

Ketu is headless, so he is desireless and mokhsa karaka. He always acts in

opposition to what rahu desires.

OWN/MT:

Scorpio is the natural 8th house signifying death, hidden matters and occult. So

ketu is comfortable in scorpio. Scorpio is natural badhaka shtana of

capricorn-the natural 10th house. Being headless ketu acts blindly and

obstructs planned karma and its fructification.

Pieces is the natural 12th house of soul's liberation, meditaion etc. So ketu is

happy to perform his duty of impart knowledge and emancipation from here. So

pieces is his office. Pieces is also badhaka shtana to virgo-the mool trikona

of rahu. So when in pieces-ketu obstructs the diabolical activities of rahu

from virgo

EXAULTATION:

Sagatarious in the natural 9th house of dharma. Ketu being blind and mokhsa

giver-he is happy to be in sagatarious and follow dharnma blindly. From here he

is also obstructs rahu's adharmic actions from gemini.

DEBILITION:

Ketu is against adharmic actions, so he is most unhappy in the house where rahu

happily enjoys adharmic acts. Gemini is also is the natural house of

communication. As ketu has no head - he is uncomfortable in this environment.

 

Question 3: Take the Dual rasis owned by the non-luminous planets and compare

the characteristics of their two rasis. Find out how the lordship gets altered

for these two rasis because of the difference in the characteristics.

 

Gemini and Virgo owned by mercury:

Gemini:

It is a dual male rashi and airy sign, rules pleasure hunts. As lord of gemini

mercury seeks pleasure and shows his dual nature. Here he is young prince

without any responsibilities.

 

Virgo:

It is also a dual rashi but earth sign, varna is vaishya. So as a lord of virgo,

mercury is more practical and calculative.

 

Taurus and Libra owned by venus:

Taurus:

It is fixed earth sign and a female sign. It rules plane lands, farms, cow

sheds, forests and face. Venus here is earthly, beautifull and varna being

vaishya - practical and calculative

 

Libra:

It is moovable male air sign. It symbolises balance, dhatu and groin. Here she

is of sensual but balanced nature and provides potency.

 

Aries and Scorpio owned by mars:

Aries:

It is movable male fire sign. It rules precious stones, minerals and symbolizes

stuborn goat. Varna is khsatriya. As lord here mars is a stuborn fighter.

 

Scorpio:

It is fixed female water sign. It rules places with filth / holes, secreation

from body. It is symbolised by scorpio. Varna is wise brahmin. Mars here is

subdued, wise, meditative.

 

Pieces and Sagatarious owned by jupiter:

Pieces:

It is a dual/female water sign. It is sattwik by nature, rules river/sea etc.,

Varna is wise brahmin. As its lord Jupiter is here tolerant like mother,

intutive and meditative.

 

Sagatarious:

It is also a dual but male fire sign. Sattwik by nature, varna of this sign is

khsatriya. The rashi is symbolised by a man with bow and arrow - a fighter with

determination. Here jupiter expresses its firy male and determined nature. Being

lord of khsatriya sign, here he adorns even fight for dharma

 

Aquarious and Capricorn owned by saturn:

Aquarious:

It is fixed airy male sign. Rajasik by nature and sudra by varna. The rashi is

symbilized by a water pot - restricting and moulding vastness of water. Saturn

here shows its phylosophycal restricting and hard working nature.

 

Capricorn:

It is movable earth female sign. Tamasic by nature and vaishya by varna. The

rashi rules river and other water abounding region. Saturn here is softer,

calculative and practical.
