Dear Gurus,

Thank you for a wonderfully illuminating lesson. Please pardon the delay in

submitting my reply but I wanted to put a lot of thought into preparing it.

Please correct my errors and misunderstandings. I have a few unanswered

questions from this lesson but I will ask them in a seperate e-mail so they

will be easier to respond to.

Question 1: In your own chart, explain how a lagna's characteristics and

planets connected with that lagna sign influence the native's personality and

health.

 

Using my own chart (attached):

18 July 1964, 20:31 EDT GMT - 4, 73W12, 40N49

 

NATURE:Capricorn rises in the rasi chart and Aquarius on the Navamsa lagna.

Capricorn is a moveable (chara) sign indicating that the native has a lot of

energy, is physically active and has the predominance of Rajas Guna . But being

an even-numbered, feminine sign, the energy has a softer nature and may

manifest more behind the scenes. Being of Bhoo tattva, an Earthy sign, and the

natural 10th house of the zodiac, the native is hard-working, practical,

traditional, is persevering, "down-to-Earth". By the lagna lord being well

placed in it's moolatrikona sign it's more positive traits of discipline,

patience, loyalty and industriousness can prevail. Being retrograde may give a

clue to the reason for my rebirth. I'm not exactly sure why, but being in the

second house and in second pada of its nakshatra,it may pertain to some kind of

work or desire for wealth. Aquarius is also the the lagnamsa. It is an airy sign

where Saturn's qualities are less rigid. It is co-lorded by Rahu has given me

intellectual and scientific pursuits whixh I carried out by working many years

in scientific research.

 

PHYSICAL TRAITS:

 

BODY TYPE:The strong influence of Saturn as lagna and lagnamsa lord (dry planet)

has given me thin body but the aspect of Venus and Moon (wet planets) gave more

flesh than a typical Capricorn Lagna. Capricorn gives moderate height by being

a medium ascension sign and Aquarius gives short height being of short

ascension. I am right in the middle, moderately shortfor an American female. 5'

3" (160 cm).

 

FACIAL FEATURES: Skin tone can be seen by the strongest planet influencing the

Navamsa lagna. In my case, it the Moon and gives a fair complexion. Normally

Capricorn/Saturn will give a prominent chin but in my case the strongest aspect

is from Venus with Mars in Taurus. This makes my strongest feature full,rosy

cheeks.

 

MENTAL OUTLOOK is seen from the Chandra Lagna. My Moon is debilitated in the

sign of Scorpio,a fixed,watery sign. In Scorpio the Moon is weakest and does

not full strength to sustain the mind and it's emotions so it can lead to

mental instability. This is further compounded in my case by Saturn being

4th(happiness) from the Moon adding Saturn's melancholy to the Moon's weakness.

I am prone to depression but mantra ( mana= mind + traye= protection) keeps my

mind stable. Being the natural 8th sign of the zodiac it makes one secretive

about thier emotions,and a strong interest in the occult. This interest in

occult/astrology becomes even stronger for a Capricorn lagna because it is

alsothe 11th house, the 4th house (knowledge) from the 8th (occult).

 

Question 2: Explain the reason for the exaltation and ownership of all the planets.

A planet's own sign is where the planet feels most comfortable, at home. It's

exaltation sign is where it feels really happy or can do it's highest good.

It's Moolatrikona sign is where it carries out it's duty like going to work. In

it's debilitation sign,the planet is very uncomfortable and unhappy. Of the 2

sign that the non-luminaries own, one will be the home and the other the

office.

 

Sun is the natural karaka for self,soul, Atman, constitution, is the sattvic

Kshatriya King.

OWN/MOOLA: Leo is both his own sign and moolatrikona sign. It is a movable/fire

sign of the dharma trikona and natural 5th natural sign of the zodiac. Leo

gives the dynamic environment and prosperity of intellect needed for the King

to govern.

EXALTED: The Sun is exalted in Aries, a movable/rajasic sign of the Dharma

trikona. It is the natural 1st house of the zodiac that brings prosperity to

the Self/Atman.

DEBILITATED: The Sun is debilitated in Libra (movable, airy) because it is the

natural 7th sign of the zodiac where the focus it on the "other" and not on the

self.

 

Moon: The Moon as mother wants to nourish/feed us and wants to create a

comfortable and accepting environment that allows for a healthy emotional

expression and health mental outlook.

OWN: The watery Moon feels comfortable in a watery sign and the natural 4th

house representing home and happiness. The moon as gains digbala in this sign

because it is strong in north. (nadir 4th house)

MOOLA/EXALTED:The moon's job is to nourish and itmakes the mother/moon happiest

to give food. Taurus, the natural second sign of the zodiac by ruling food,

mouth, and wealth is the place where the Moon can carry out her joy and duty.

 

DEBILITATED: This is also why Scorpio causes the debilitation of the Moon.

Scorpio is the sign that rules excretion and dirty places like garbage dumps

and Scorpio being the natural 8th house is a secretive sign where emotions are

hidden. The moon is miserable in these conditions.

 

Mars: is the commander of the army, rules courage and strength in all areas. He

is tamasic because he rules accidents, fighting and enemies and is the God of

Death/Rudra.

OWN:Mars makes his home in Scorpio,the natural 8th house of the zodiac. Being

the lord of the 8th house makes him Rudra/Lord of Death but being in a

watery,fixed sign his fiery nature is not expressed as dynamically as in his

Moolatrikona sign.

MOOLA: Mars's job is to govern ones physical strength and mental courage. The

natural first house ruling the self, body,strength and energy is his office.

Aries, being a male sign full of rajas and agni gives Mars the environment he

needs to do his job.

EXALTED: In Capricorn, Mars gains directional strength because Mars is strong in the South.

In a movable, Earthy, natural 10th house of work and deeds Mars can exercise his

strength and perseverance.

DEBILITATED: In Cancer, a watery female sign, Mars is miserable because it is

the natural 4th house of harmony and happiness. No one is exercising their

strength and courage but relaxing with their mother and doing some creative

thinking.

 

Mercury is the rajasic, young crown prince likes to have fun and pursue material

things he also rules the Earth element relates to practical matters like

trade,commerce, forethought and planning. Alone he is a benefic because he

brings clear understanding to the area he is placed.

OWN:As the significator of speech and debates he is at home in Gemini(

dual,airy), the 3rd house of communications. By also being airy/kama trikona

sign,it shows one's persistence in pursuing desires.

MOOLA/EXALTATION: His jobs is debating so his office is Virgo(dual,Earthy), the

6th house of arguments and enemies. He loves debating so much that Virgo is

also his Exaltation sign.

DEBILITATION: Pisces(dual,watery) causes his debilitation because he will not be

able debate with a peaceful Brahmin.

 

Jupiter: is the Sattvic Brahman whose job is the uphold dharma,and bring

blessings based on past deeds.

MOOLA:Jupiter's moolatrikona sign is Sagittarius, the natural 9th house of the

zodiac representing Dharma. Being a fiery sattvic sign, Jupiter as the High

Priest will use force if necessary to see that the Law and Dharma is upheld.

OWN:He is more comfortable in in own sign, Pisces, a Sattvic, watery sign.

Pisces, being the natural 12th sign of the zodiac, Jupiter would rather be

meditating and seeking Moksha.

EXALTED: Cancer causes the exaltation of Jupiter because it is another watery

sign and the natural 4th sign of the zodiac so he can do some creative thinking

and relax in the house of home and mother.

DEBILITATED:Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn because it is a rajasic sign

owned by a tamasic lord, Saturn who wants to cause misery and very detailed and

ordered work and the Sattvic Brahmin is miserable under those conditions.

 

Venus: rajasic, watery Brahmin, guru to asuras who provides all comforts,

pleasures and luxuries, gives refinement and social grace and diplomacy needed

to deal with others. It also govern sexual potency and passionate emotions.

 

OWN: Venus makes his home in Taurus (fixed, Earthy) because it is the natural

2nd house of wealth and assets and can provide the comforts that Venus likes

MOOLA: Venus makes Libra(movable,airy) his office being the natural 7th house of

relationships and marriage.

EXALTED: Venus is exalted in Pisces(watery,dual) the fruitful, natural 12th

house of bed pleasures.

DEBILITATED: Venus debilitated in Virgo(dual,Earthy)7 the Virgin, the barren

sign of arguments and accidents.

 

Saturn is karaka of grief, misery and longevity. His philosophy is that through

work hard we can improve oneself. He is of vaayu(airy) tattva governs a

free,wandering spirit.

OWN: Saturn feels at home in Capricorn since it is the natural 10th house of

work and karma as well as an upachaya (growth) house where we may work to

improve his condition and resolve one's karmas.

MOOLA: The 11th from any house shows whether the objectives signified by that

house are obtained or not. Saturn, the Lord of longevity, performs his job in

the natural 11th house ensuring that the objectives of the Lagna (life,status,

power) are obtained. If the 11th house is strong, life will be long and

prosperous and conversely if the 11th house is weak. It is for this reason that

the 11th house has primary argala. Also being the natural badhak sthana, here

Saturn can exercise his desire to work hard to overcome obstacles.

EXALTED: Saturn can also be characterized as a Yogi/renunciate whose disciplined

nature allows him to undertake deep tapasyas(penances). In airy, sensual Libra

and where Saturn gets digbala, he is able to practice renouncing worldly

desires.

 

Rahu: Being the head of a serpent, is a mind and desires( eyes, nose, mouth)

without a heart. This makes him a perfect philosopher and the worst criminal

full of greed and seeking material wealth to satisfy his sense organs.

OWN: Aquarius is his home is because it is the natural 11th house,part of the

kama trikona and house of material gains.

Being the 11th house from a movable sign, it is the natural house of Badhak, obstruction.

MOOLA: Virgo, the natural 3rd house, is Rahu's moolatrikona sign. Virgo is

also part of the kama trikona, Rahu works in the house of enemies and

accidents.

EXALTED:Rahu is exalted in Gemini because it is also a kama house showing one's

persistence in pursuing one's desires and also rules places of gambling,

recreation and pleasure.

DEBILITATED: Rahu is debilitated in Sagittarius because it is the natural house

of dharma, devotion and righteousness and Rahu wants nothing to do with that.

 

Ketu is the moksha karaka is headless and desireless.

OWN:He is most comfortable with occult activity and the Dead and likes to be

hidden. Scorpio, the 8th house of the zodiac becomes Ketu's home because the

root of all religions is the question of Life after Death.

MOOLA:His duty is to give moksha and so his moolatrikona sign is the 12th house

of the zodiac, Pisces.

EXALTED: Ketu is exalted in the Sagittarius because being the natural 9th house

it is the house of Dharma and following one's Dharma will lead to Moksha.

DEBILITATED: The opposite of seeking Moksha is seeking pleasure, so Gemini

ruling desire and entertainment, ruled by the Prince of a good time, Mercury

makes Ketu uncomfortable and causes the debilitation of Ketu.

 

Question 3: Take the Dual rasis owned by the non-luminous planets and compare

the characteristics of their two rasis. Find out how the lordship gets altered

for these two rasis because of the difference in the characteristics.

and strength In Scorpio, in a watery, tamo guna place expressed in a

soft,introverted way and used for secret matters pertaining to death and

afterlife since it is the natural 8th house of the zodiac.

GEMINI.....arms/chest....tridatu/vaayu/kama......sattva/dual...male....pleasure places

VIRGO.......hips............vata/bhoo/artha......sattva/dual...female..pasture land

 

Mercury, the young Prince is a learner and easily influenced. He behaves like

who he is with and where he is. In airy, pleasure places of the kama trikona

he'd rather have fun but in the Earthy,house of the Virgin he'll be more

serious and do his job of intellectual debate and add mental clarity.

As a fiery planet in a fiery,male, sign of Sagittarius, Jupiter acts in a

dynamic manner acting as the lord of the house of Dharma In a watery,female

sign like Pisces his fiery nature is extinguished and seeks moksha instead.

TAURUS.....mouth........vata/bhoo/artha.......tamas/fixed....female...farm, cow shed

LIBRA......groin........tridatu/vaayu/kama.....raja/movable...male.....bazaar of a city

 

Venus in Taurus, an Earthy, artha sign, is more concerned with practical matters

of providing food and other assets. In Libra, an airy,movable sign, his sensual

nature can be seen and can exercise his job as Lord of potency in the natural

house of relationships and entertainment.

 

CAPRICORN...knees......vatu/bhoo/artha.......movable/rajo..female..river w/deer+crocs

AQUARIUS....calves.....tridatu/vaayu/kama....fixed/tamo....male....watery places

 

In a movable Earthy sign,of natural 10th house Saturn's concern are for

practical matters like work and deeds. In a fixed,airy sign of he's more

philosophical and can work towards fulfilling goals, aspirations and assure

longevity.
