Thanks for the lesson. I noticed that in the list of signs under the

"indications of rasis" you have missed out Libra. Being a Libra Rising, I of

course noticed it immediately <grin>. As I recently had bladder cancer with

the bladder having to be removed I always pay attention to my Libran Lagna

Also in the Example Chart you talk about carrier industry. Do you mean a

person's career? I only scanned this as of yet so I may have more to ask

when I send in my test answers.

My attempt to answer the assignments in SJVC Lesson 5.

Question

1:

In your chart or any chart, explain how a lagna sign's characteristics

and planets connect with that Lagna sign influence the native's

personality and health.

Data:

DOB- 27 /07/1947 -

TOB- 7:06 AM (summer time - subtract 1 hour) -

POB-Lisbon - Portugal.

 

Observation:

In my chart I have Cancer

ascendent.

Sun and Saturn in the first house.

Lagna Lord is Moon placed in the 5th house in scorpio.

Effects on

personality:

Lagna- Cancer rises. It

is an emotional, sensitive, watery sign giving a phlegmatic disposition.

The lord moon is placed in scorpius in the 5 house in

debilitation, conjoin ketu. Scorpio is an fixed sign and would have

a major influence in shaping the expression of the moon in my horoscope.

We must also look at the sign dispositor of moon. That is mars, the lord

of scorpio which is placed in taurus, aspecting his own sign, in kendra

from moon, cancelling the debilitation, and gave me a strong dynamic

interest in sports (I was world championship in rowing)besides the moon

is placed in the constellation of anuradha.(Sports ,Games,foreign

countries and good for numbers.).

The flexible emotional inner forces of moon are being expressed within

the secret, private, hidden sign that is scorpio. The moon would also be

influenced by ketu, which heighten the orderliness and rigidity,

limit emotions,limit my sensuality and gave me fascinated with techniques

or technologies for directing energy, either outwardly or inwardly.

Ascendant lord there indicates a highly introverted and introspective

person.

Moon is also the significator of emotions and a person with the moon in

scorpio (in general and specially if it is

the ascendant lord) would make active attempts to hide one's emotions in

a conscious and subconscious manner. Such people like me ,with this and

yet with saturn in the ascendent, use denials, blocking, repression and

suppression as defenses against situations and emotions which might

arouse anxiety in them. The presence of saturn in the ascendent, give me

the tendency to rationalize everything and to depend excessively on my

reasoning faculties.

My physical features. In the northern hemisphere, cancer is a

medium ascension sign, scorpio is a medium to, Ketu and sun

give medium to tall height, saturn give small to medium height. Pooling

all these influences together, the individual is likely to be of medium

height, which I am (about 71 mts height). I have the caracteristics

of scorpio sign:- strong and robust body with good muscles, broad

face, and cancer sign:,- blue eyes , lustrous face,tendency to get fat,

and I am timid.

The Cancer nativities generally have abundant hair, the association of

moon with sun would eventually lead to baldness but I am 54 years

old and I steel have enough hair.

The second lord , the sun, aspected by cruel planets ( saturn, ketu,

rahu, mars) and debilitated in navansa , give me a special eyes and a

low-volume but raspy voice, specially so when raised and I´m get tired

when I speak loud. My eyes are the windows of my soul and I can’t hide

what I think, because I express my feelings through my eyes

Question 2:

Explain the reason for the exaltation and ownership of all the

planets.

A simple story of how the twelve Rashis(constellations) of zodiac got

their lords.

In de beginning, Sun and

Moon were the King and Queen of heaven. Absolute monarchs they ruled from

the constellations of Leo and Cancer respectively. When Mercury saw that

these two owned everything, he decided to ask(since mercury rules

communication)for some land in the zodiac for him self. The Sun being

naturally magnanimous, said, “all right, you may take possession of

Virgo, the constellation next to mine”.

Now Mercury is well known as a dual planet, a master of duplicity who

speaks with a forked tongue. He found it so easy to get the land from the

Sun that he waited until the night (Mercury rules both day and night) and

then told Moon, the Queen of the night, “O Queen, the Sun has given me a

plot; are you going to be outdone?

Now, Sun is the soul, and Moon is the emotional mind. Mind is insecure,

knowing that it has no independent light of its own, that, it only

reflects the soul. Since it is insecure, mind is always trying to

aggrandize itself, and so it often tries to duplicate processes which are

part of the life of the soul. This, for example, is the reason why the

mind frequently tries to convince itself that it might live forever. So

Moon replied to Mercury, “All right you take Gemini, the plot next to

mine”. In this way Mercury , the thinking mind, gained possession of

Virgo and Gemini.

Venus (desire) saw what Mercury(thinking mind) had done, and made the

some request. Sun(who is very honest, and would not gift away the some

space twice)said: “I’ve promised the space next to me to Mercury, but you

may have the next space”which is Libra. Venus then repeated his

request to Moon, obtaining Taurus thereby.

Seeing what Venus(desire) had done, Mars (action)did the some, obtaining

Scorpio and Aries from Sun and Moon respectively.

Requests from Jupiter(wisdom) gained Sagittarius and Pisces.

Finally even Saturn got the news (Saturn , who is slow to catch on,always

the last to know).Saturn(renunciation)got what was left on both sides:

Capricorn and Aquarius.

This order reflects the distances from the various planets to the Sun:

Mercury is the closest planet, followed in order by Venus, Mars, Jupiter

and finally Saturn.

This order also reflects the evolution of embodied consciousness, which

arises from the Soul and is experienced first in the emotional mind. As

objective thought gradually develops, so does the thinking mind. The more

the mind thinks, the more it desires. Desires lead to action, in order to

actualize those desires; and from action, comes wisdom, as one learns the

beneficial and detrimental results of good and bad actions. When wisdom

finally matures, renunciation becomes inevitable, because you become

satisfied with was bestowed upon you by Nature; you are happy

with whatever remains. The some life dramas that are acted on Earth

appear symbolized in the skies; “as above , so below”.

Another simple

story about exaltation and debilitation -

Astrologically planets are

ascribed exaltation and debilitation points in the zodiac. As a rule the

Rasi (sign) in which the exaltation and debilitation point is located is

taken as a whole as exalted or debilitated sign. The point of

debilitation from the point of exaltation is 180 degrees. The 7th sign

from the sign of exaltation is the debilitation sign.

The why, how and what of exaltation and debilitation of planets are not

explained in any authoritative work of astrology.

The argument put forth by some is that the planet nearer to earth is

potentially strong and hence is exalted. A study of the following

dismisses that argument.

The distance and exaltation or debilitation of planets is not in any way

connected. Then what is debilitation and exaltation of planets ?

Exaltation means being in high position, exhileration and strength.

Debility means weakness, and humility .

The zodiac is the planetary cabinet. The first house or sign should be

occupied by protocol by the King as the 1st citizen. Sun is the king of

planetary cabinet. Hence he should be exalted on his thrown in the 1st

sign Aries. A king enjoys power and position only when attended by the

commander in chief Mars and the servant Saturn. Aries is the sign owned

by Mars, the commander in chief of the planetary cabinet and Saturn the

servant is debilitated (humbled) in Aries due to the authority of the

King and the commander in chief. The King is attended on either side

(Pisces and Taurus by Venus the courtesan and the Queen Moon).

The place next to the King shall go only to the Queen. Hence Moon is

exalted in Taurus. Sun owns Leo and Moon owns Cancer and get exalted in

Aries and Taurus respectively. Next to Queen no one can sit. Hence Gemini

has neither exaltation or debilitation of any planet in it. Cancer is

owned by the Queen (Queen's place) Moon. Jupiter is the preceptor and

further has a respectable place in the Queen's palace when he visits

Cancer. Hence Jupiter is exalted in Cancer. Mythologically Moon (as male

disciple of Jupiter) has an episode with Tara, the wife of Jupiter, which

culminated in the birth of a child Budha. Mars the commander in chief

visits the Queen's palace to carry out the commands or run errands of the

Queen. Hence he is debilitated in Cancer. In the King's palace of Leo no

planet can be exalted. Hence free from exaltation or debilitation. Virgo

is owned by Mercury. Mercury is the finance minister in the planetary

cabinet hence exalted in Virgo. Venus the courtesan is debilitated in the

house of the finance minister, personally visiting for financial aid.

Libra is owned by courtesan (damsel). When the king visits the court

damsel, naturally he is accompanied by the servant Saturn. In the house

of a damsel the king looses his authority. Hence is debilitated in Libra.

The servant Saturn is the master of the situation (arranging meeting of

Damsel Venus and King Sun) and is exalted. Scorpio is owned by Mars. When

Moon the Queen visits the quarters of subordinate commander in chief, she

is humbled. Hence is debilitated in Scorpio. In the mansion of the Guru

Jupiter no planet is exalted or debilitated. Capricorn is the quarters of

the servant and soldier Saturn. Mars visits the barracks of soldier. He

the commander in chief visits with authority. Hence is exalted.

Jupiter the preceptor and prime minister by visiting the quarters of a

servant looses his dignity and status.Hence Jupiter is debilitated in the

house of Saturn - Capricorn.

Aquarius also is owned by Saturn. There is no debility or exaltation of

planets in it. Pisces is owned by Jupiter. Venus, the damsel, being in

the house of respected Jupiter in the proximity of the king in Pisces,

naturally has power, hence is exalted. Mercury, the Finance

Minister,being in the house of respected Jupiter and in the proximity of

the king is subdued of his authority and hence is debilitated in

Pisces.

This is one line of explanation of exaltation and debilitation of planets

on the basis of planet politics.

Question 3:

Take the Dual rasis owned by the non-luminous planets and compare the

characteristics of their two rasis. Find out how the lordship gets

altered for these two rasis because of the difference in the

characteristics.

The first pair is Gemini and Virgo owned by Mercury, a non-luminary; the

second pair is Sagittarius and Pisces, owned by another non-luminary,

Jupiter.

MERCURY- As Lord of Gemini, the sign of communication, education,

learning, he has interest in everything, showing his curiosity and his

dual nature.

As Lord of Virgo, the sign of debates and arguments, he is more adult,

more serious,looking for practical results.

JUPITER- As Lord of Sagittarius, in a fiere sign, Jupiter acts in a

dynamic manner to uphold Dharma.

As Lord of Pisces, he stands for wisdom, spirituality and

knowledge, and his fiery nature is extinguished, seeking moksha.
