Dear MsE,

Please see

answers in red…

This terminology

you have listed below is basic to the study of all vedic astrology, so you will

need to become very familiar with these terms in order to understand Krushna’s

system. A good beginner book that covers much of these vedic idioms, in real

clear English, is James T. Braha’s book, Ancient Hindu Astrology for the Modern

Western Astrologer. Without a clear grasp and understanding of this

terminology, you will be completely lost…L…Hope this helps you somewhat…

Dear Krushna and List:

Well, I already know I am far behind , (bluntly speaking) I'm lost but trying.

After reading the preface and lesson 1 I realize I need some help on

terminology. I printed the entire (Yes every chart, lesson and extra) in

the file cabinet and now have a very nice Binder. Having done all this I

am still missing vital pieces. I am listing the terms that I did not find

definitions for (or perhaps I just didn't understand them).

What country does the Ashtakavarga system Originate? India…I believe

Bear with me I am very new to the this way of doing astrology. I am a pretty

quick study, (until now smile). I do not understand the terms that are

listed above. Lastly, (lowering head in utter humiliation and

embarrassment) {but remembering I earlier asked for someone to just do my

chart, but since I got no takers I must embark on this mission myself]!

Lesson 1 at the end Where it gives the example that the sun is located in the

12th house and contributes 5 points, I can't see or understand how the points

are contributed. Please someone walk me through that I realize it is a key

factor (and the primary reason for lesson 1) but I don't see where the 5 came

from.

Finally thank you and I will attempt to keep my ramblings to a small roar.

Thanks in advance.

Hello mserotic,

I think that for embarking on this course yoiu need basic knowledge of Jyotish or Indian astrolgoy. Try to read a good book on it. Frawley's "The astrology of the seers" could be a good start. If you are a western I wouldn't start with an Indian classic, this would be too difficult to grasp in the beginning.

You have to know the basic meaning of certain terms and laws of astrology. Perhaps you can also find a website were they help beginners along.

Good luck and best regards

Margarita

You’re quite welcome…J

contributed. Please someone walk me through that I realize it is a key factor

(and the primary reason for lesson 1) but I don't see where the 5 came from.

Based on the

Bhinnashtakavarga of this particular Male Chart, the 5 is the point value

(bindus) contributed to the Sun in the 12th.

1.Go to

page 12. Look at the Table “Ashtakavarga Chart of Maleâ€.

2.Find the

Sun in the table.

3.Go

across to the 12th House.

4.Here you

will see the number “5â€.

5.The Sun

contributes 5 points to the 12th house in this chart.

Dear MsE,

Here are the meaning of the 2 terms that you have left with a

question mark.

Raddi : In India, this is a kinda way of Garbage (mainly news papers

or glass bottles etc) disposal collect wherein a house hold collects

news papers, bags etc.. and then goes and disposes or sell them.

This is called Raddi or Garbage. Sometimes the Raddiwalla (meaning

the dealer who collets the papers or news papers) weighs them and

accordinly compensates them. Raddi would mean Garbage or papers or

leftovers.

Kabadi : means the person who collects or accepts the raddi for a

price.

Hope that clarifies. This is not a sanskrit terminology but more of

a local lingua used in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati languages that I know

of. I do not know if a similar term is used in other languages of

India.

Thanks,

Cheers !!!

Guruji,

Thanks for such wonderful lessons!!!I will be able to post all

answers from lesson 2,3,4 within 2 days.

Please find my answers to assignment.for Lesson1

ques1.Reg change of seasons .....:

ans 1.The earth rotates on its own axis in 24 hrs.Along with this

rotation, it also relolves around the sun in 1 year or 365.2422 days.

This span of time is the tropical year. The path of earth around the

sun appears to us as the Suns path around the earth, and is called

epliptic. The equator runs through middle of the earth in an east west

direction and divides the earth into a northern and southern

atmosphere. The epliptic ,in the apparent east west direction is

obliquely placed to it.Half of the suns path thus lies to the north

of the equator and half to the south .

The sun thus happens to cross the equator twice a year, giving rise to

2 equinoxes-The vernal equinox around 21 march (sun in northerly

course) and autumnal equinox around 23 sept (sun on southerly course).

The epliptic is inclined to the equator at an angle of 23.28' it

crosses the equator at 2 points-vernal and autumnal equinox and on

these 2 occasions the days and nights are equal all over the

globe. The sun is vertically above the equator at this time. The

inclination of the Sun at these occasions is zero.

After vernal equinox ,the sun progressively attains northerly

declination until it reaches a maximum of 23 28'at winter solistice

around 22nd december. .The northern hemisphere experiences the

shortest day and longer night on this occasion. The reverse is true

for southern hemisphere.

The oblaquity of the epliptic to the equator thus results in

formation and change of seasons. When its winter in northern

hemisphere,it is summer in southern and vice versa.

Note :Not all planets have the same kind of tilt as Earth has..URANUS

(the outer planet...not considered in vedic astrology)..for example

has a tilt of almost 98 deg.Its axis then lies almost on the plane of

its orbit, and a day there lasts about as much as one year on

Uranus:about 84 earth years.

ques2.There are ......explain the phenomenon.....

ans2.

This can be attributed to the shape of the earth and its rotation

around its axis and also the movement of the sun in anticlockwise

direction with respect to the earth . When Earth is closer to Winter

or the Summer solstice -extreme points on the elliptical orbit of

earth around the sun), then the poles are either below or above the

ecliptic by more than 18deg , and this causes no sun rise or sunset.

ques 3. Parasara......the moving and non-moving ones. difference

between their roles ....astrological interpretation.

ans3 . Among the 2 classes of heavenly bodies ,the moving heavenly

bodies are the grahas & upa- grahas and the non-moving heavenly

bodies are Nakshatras.

So, the nakshatra can be seen as fixed points on a background

against which the grahas move/traverse.The difference between their

roles in astrological interpretation is as follows::

1.As per the literal meaning naksha means map and each nakshatra has

a unique character and will influence any graha placed in it. To

understand how the significance will manifest in ones life, its

important to know the nakshatra it occupies. The description of the

qualities of the nakshatra in which the moon is placed in is given

lots of importance as it provides a small sketch about ones nature.

2.Planets represent the incarnations of lord Vishnu and they

represent different people that play a role in ones life...Nakshatras

are the 27 fixed points/stars/lunar asterism for the lunar cycle

ruled by the nine grahas .The position of the moon at birth in these

nakshatras or stars determines the dasha period to start first.

ques4 construct your own chart, and explain as many astronomical

principles -(terrestrial latitude/longitude, season, Sun's cycle,

Sunrise/Sunset etc..Determine which planets are above and under the

horizon in your chart. In which Ayana the Sun is?

ans4. Date of Birth: 19 Jan1973

Time of Birth: 7:55:00 am

Time Zone of Birth: 5:30 East of GMT

Longitude of Birth : 81 E 59

Latitude of Birth: 25 N 34

Lunar month (maasa): Pausha

Lunar day (tithi): Sukla Ekadasi

Sunrise 6.50:00

Sunset 17:30:00

Ayansha 23-29-7

Sun's position(tropics) uttarayan

Suns position (hemisphere) : South

Tithi at sunrise : Krishna Pratipada

Nakshatra at birth : Pushya

Vara(Weekday) Friday

Yoga at birth: Priti

Karana at birth: Balava

Dasha at birth : Saturn-Venus-Venus

Balance of dasha Saturn 12 y 1m 5 d

Season was Shishir.

The planets above the horizon in my chart are

Sun,Venus,Jupiter,Mercury and Mars,Rahuand Moon(since moons longitude

is < ascendant) whereas saturn ketu and are below the horizon.

Please let me know if I have made any mistakes.
