Guest guest
Pujya Guruji: Pranam. I am uncomfortable in attempting to answer question no 1 and 2 because all of my thoughts are from random reading. From those readings I seem to have an unstable, nebulous idea but I am unable to express even that. Hence, I have gone back to my old books and found some references which formulated my thoughts. After an initial sort of introduction, the last paragraph is role of God in my life. If my inference is wrong, then just reflects my inadequacy and not of the luminous authors. Q-1-Try to define the role of God in your life. Book –“An idealist View of Life” – by Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan ( Publisher – Unwin Books)- Page 10 – “We can not be certain that man is the last and the supreme utterance of life. The chain may as well extend to other links which may be as different from him as he is different from amoeba.” Page 11 – “Morality is a working arrangement and it’s sanction is a social necessity.” Page 27 – “Our mental pictures of God are as varied as we are.” Page 28 – “No God seems to be final and no religion perfect.” Page 172 – “We have seen that a lack of understanding between man and nature is the source of fear which gives rise to religion.” Book “Religion and culture” by Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan (publisher Vision Books) – Page – 22- “The goal of life is communion with the Supreme. It is a life of realization, a gnosis, an inner intuitive vision of God, when man achieves absolute freedom and escapes from the blind servitude to ordinary experience” Hence, in my mind, above all seems to be as in the book titled “The Science of Religion” by Parmahansa Yogananda – page 1. “Our ordinary conception of God is that he is superhuman, infinite, omnipotent, omniscient and the like. In this general conception there are many variations. Some call God personal, some see him as impersonal. ……. whatever conception of God we have, if it does not influence our daily conduct, if every day life does not find an inspiration from it, and if it is not found universally necessary, then the concept is useless.” On page 39 Yogananda ji further say – “Proof of God’s existence lies within us.” Above quotations do not portray author’s total concepts – but reflect what I think “ I feel” but do not know for fact. 2. What have you done in the past one year to come closer to God? I happen to come across book entitled “Yoga Philosophy of Patanjali” by Swami Harharananda Aranya and some other sources on Yoga. I understand it more and realized for the first time that Yoga is a way to that Supreme energy, that supreme power, that eternal God. I could attempt the journey by myself – but I prefer a Guru ji. I am still trying to find one – and in the mean time, I have had few failed starts. My journey to liberation is matter of destiny – if I am to do so, it will happen when He wants it to happen. 3. Which statement is more relevant: (a) God is all, or (b) All is God Both statements have a common end point. “God is all” impresses me more – just because sentence starts with Him. 4. How is the role of a Jyotish different from a priest? We now know that during era of Rig Veda, Ygna and sacrifices were conducted by priests according to precise astronomical calculations. Even the Ygna Kund (Altar) was constructed according to strict and precise astronomical calculations. It is my understanding that those astronomical calculations were the basis of Jyotish too. That combined role of priest and Jyotishi is still often seen in India. However, many a times, someone prefers to be only a priest to conduct religeous ceremonies according to our Vedic traditions. These ceremonies may be related to our life before birth, while we are alive and after our death. However, a Jyotishi interprets our current life according to our Karma as reflected by influence of Heavenly bodies. Any suggested recourse may be conducted by Jyotishi, if inclined so, or by a Priest who invariably will know the Vedic tradition. Thank you , Guru ji. Please excuse me if I rambled and did not make sense. Yours Arvind Kumar.
