Guest guest
Namaste I am a new student. I have joined the list recently, sorry for delay in sending answers. V.Livina --- LESSON 1 Q.1. Explain the changing of the seasons and its connection with the above mentioned factors. The main reasons of season changing are rotation of the Earth around the Sun and inclined axis of the Earth whose two ends poke through the surface of the planet at the north and south poles. So, during the winter in the northern hemisphere, when the Sun reaches the southest point of its trajectory (tropic of Capricorn), the middle and high latitudes get less quantity of light and energy from the Sun. Opposite, in summer, when the Earth axis is turned into the side of the Sun, the northern hemisphere gets the maximal portion of energy. In the southern hemisphere the situation is opposite: winter when Sun moves near Tropic of Cancer. Q.2. There are some days of the year when the Sun eather doesn't rise or set above certain parts of the globe. Please, explain this phenomenon. In highest latitudes of northern hemisphere during the summer the Sun doesn't set at all because of the mentioned above inclined axis which is turned to the Sun during that season, so the "top" of the planet gets the sunlight constantly despite the daily rotation of the Earth. In lower (but still high) latitudes this effect is reduced and causes so-called "white nights" at the North or Europe and Canada during the summer solstice. Q.3. Parasara mentions two classes of heavenly bodies: the moving and non-moving ones. Please explain what will be the difference between their roles in the astrological interpretations. Moving bodies are planets (grahas), non-moving are stars (nakshatras). Nakshatras are basis for division of the zodiac, grahas describe different aspects of existence. Using grahas, nakshatras and bhavas one can describe the past, present and future of a person. Q.4. If you are able to construct your own chart, please do it and explain as many astronomical principles from it as you can (terrestrial latitude/ longitude, season, Sun's cycle, sunrise/sunset etc.). Also try to determine which planets are above and under the horizon in your chart. In which Ayana the Sun is ? --------------------------- | | | | | | Ra | Sa | | Su | --------------------------- | Ch | | Bu | | | | Sy | ------ ------ | | | | | | | | --------------------------- | | | |Lagna | | | Ma | |Gu Ke | --------------------------- >From this chart it is easy to see that I was born in summer (Sy in Karka, negative Ayana), close to noon (Sy in 11th Bhava). Four planets are above horizon, two below. Guru and Ketu are in Lagna, two rising grahas. Chandra in the 8th bhava from Surya which means that I was born just after the full moon. -
