Guest guest
Respected Gurus, My sincere apologies for the very late submission of answers for this lesson. I was away on vacation when the lesson was posted and took some time to study and understand the lesson. I also had some problems with the second question which I have mentioned below. I also had some other comments in relations to the list and the lessons in general 1. I request members to stick to what has been taught in the lessons when answering. I know that there are several people who are not exactly beginners, but if you start using your advanced knowledge (in comparison to the beginners) in answering the lessons, it is very intimidating to the beginners and will find it difficult to follow your explanations and reasoning. I know that we are expected to read several books along with the lessons on the list, but that is still not going to be a substitute for years of learning and experience which several students of this list seem to already have 2. As an addendum to the previous point it would be helpful if relevant books and chapters are also given at the end of the lessons as recommended readings which would help us in understanding the lessons better. Also references to specific books/verses/chapters can be given in the lesson also in places where additional reading will be helpful (I haven't come across such a situation so far, but anticipate it in future) 3. This is upto the gurus to decide, but I feel that the discussions on the list in general should also be restricted to what has been taught so far. That way it will be easier for all students to participate. We have other lists where other topics can be discussed (vedic astrology). 4. Since there seems to be a wide range and knowledge and experience levels among the students on this list, maybe we can have another list for the intermediate level students, with sjvc for beginners and varahamihira for advanced students. I know we have the vedic astrology list, but there are a lot of people on that list who merely to know about their chart readings and are not really interested in learning jyotish. 5. This is not related but I request list members to follow some netiquette when replying to emails - if you are sending a one line reply (frequently just a thank you note) to a 2 page email, do you really need to include the original email your reply? And do you really need to send that reply to the entire list if it is addressed to one person only? And please try to cut out all the unwanted mail headers and footers if you are forwarding or replying. (Sorry for the rant but I'm d to several lists and get several dozen emails every day :-) I apologize in advance if I am out of line with my comments and suggestions. All the gurus are doing an excellent job and I am eagerly looking forward to the next lesson and also comments on my answers. SJVC Lesson 4 Answers --------------------- 1. Using your own chart identify the sign each planet is in, state if the planet is in its own sign, exaltation, detriment or moolatrikona. List the sign and degree placements of each planet. Natal Chart June 18, 1975 Time: 23:45:00 Time Zone: 5:30:00 (East of GMT) Longitude: 80 E 17' 00" Latitude: 13 N 04' 00" Body Longitude Own/Exalt./Debil./MT Lagna 24 Aq 52' 33.98" Sun 3 Ge 22' 43.52" Moon 1 Li 25' 19.76" Mars 27 Pi 33' 11.47" Mercury ® 22 Ta 02' 40.26" Jupiter 26 Pi 18' 59.76" Own sign Venus 18 Cn 44' 34.67" Saturn 25 Ge 33' 43.43" Rahu 6 Sc 08' 28.14" Ketu 6 Ta 08' 28.14" +------+ |Mar Jup |Glk |MerR Ket |Sun Sat | |GL | |Mnd | | |---------+-------------------+---------| |Asc | |Ven | | | | | |---------| Rasi |---------| | | | | | | | | |---------+-------------------+---------| |HL |Rah |Moo AL | | | | | | | +------+ 2. There are different characters of each planet mentioned throughout the lesson. Identify from your own chart, at least one character of each planet from your Rasi and Navamsa and write how it influences you during its dasa or antardasa. I am finding it difficult to correlate significations of planets alone (without reference to their houses, aspects, etc.) with events in my life. I did not want to use house significations, aspects, strengths, etc. as we have not yet officially been taught that and I do not want to go by what I have read. Another important sub-exercise in answering this question, which took a long time, was collecting information about various events in my life so far, especially during my childhood many of which I did not remember the dates. I don't understand the part about Navamsa in this question. I am restricting myself to the characters of the planets mentioned in the lesson and will try to correlate them to events in my life during their dasas and antardasas. Vimsottari Dasa (started from Moon): Mar Mer 1975-06-18 Ket 1975-09-16 Ven 1976-02-12 Sun 1977-04-13 Moo 1977-08-19 Mars The first few years of my life I was very healthy, partly on account of being breast-fed for a long time). I fell down and got a deep scar on my right eyebrow in Sep/Oct 1977 from the handle of a cupboard (just missed my eyes - Mars rules sight) My brother was born towards the end of Mars maha dasha (Nov 1977). Rah Rah 1978-03-20 Jup 1980-11-30 Sat 1983-04-26 Mer 1986-03-02 Ket 1988-09-18 Ven 1989-10-07 Sun 1992-10-06 Moo 1993-08-31 Mar 1995-03-02 Rahu Almost my entire primary and secondary education has been in Rahu mahadasa, starting from my LKG (lower kindergarten) right upto the completion of my bachelor's degree in 1996. I am kind of relating this to Rahu representing unexplored realms. I was extremely shy during most of my childhood and teenage. (I still am to a small extent). I was also very prone to skin allergies during my schooling days. I got interested in paranormal sciences, etc. sometime around 1988 when I read a book on psychokinesis. I did a mind control course (Silva) in 1995 and generally developed an interest in meditation, psychic healing, etc. During the sub-period of Saturn the tip of my ring finger on my left hand was crushed in a door in school leading to a permanent deformation (although very minor). One of my best friends in school fell from the terrace of my house and had brain damage requiring surgery. I also changed schools in 1985 which naturally led to a lot of discomfort with adjusting to new friends and a new environment. I also went through a few psychological complexes during this period. During sub-period of Mercury (speech, communication) I started learning German. This was also the time when I formed several strong friendships. Venus sub-period was the first time I started shedding some of my inhibitions especially with regards to girls. I changed schools again in 1990 and that was a period of strong emotions as I had formed several strong friendships and had to break them off. In a way the rajasic qualities of Venus were what motivated me to switch schools in the first place because of my passion to pursue my goals of getting into IIT, which I did towards the end of the Venus sub-period in July 1992 The sub-period of the Sun was the first time I lived away from home in a hostel which made me responsible and self-confident. Right after the beginning of Sun sub-period, I had a shaving cut in my face which deteriorated into an infection. I also had an inflammation of the joints in my right toes because of a sports injury - I am not certain about the dates, but since the Sun rules the bones, I am tempted to think it might have been towards the end of the Sun sub-period. The sub-period of Moon is when I did the mind-control course where I learnt several meditation techniques and also got introduced to Pranic healing, Reiki and several other mind related activities. Jup Jup 1996-03-20 Sat 1998-05-08 Mer 2000-11-18 Ket 2003-02-24 Jupiter (wisdom and happiness, benefic, sattvic) The influence of Jupiter is strong because it is in it's own house. I completed my B.Tech at the beginning of Jupiter mahadasa (May 1996) and came to the US for higher studies in Aug 1996. Everything related to my higher studies went of very smoothly. My interest in spiritualism, vedas, mantras all increased by a large extent during this period (including getting into astrology in general and vedic astrology in particular). This period has generally been a happy one for me in several aspects including education, social life, etc. I got initiated in Reiki in July 1996 in Jup-Jup. Sattvic qualities have generally increased during this period - patience, balance, devotional feelings, contentment, philanthropic tendencies, etc. Financially also I've done very well (started earning on my own) during this period. Guest guest
Namaste, The evaluation and execution of the two questions has been done in a clearn and concise fashion. You are obviously gaining a fine understanding of the basic priniciples used in Jyotish. Now to your other points. The lesson which you just completed is an attempt to have everyone 'on the same page' in their studies. It is impossible to ensure each student is at the same level. Heaven knows, it is most frustrating reading about concepts you have yet to understand. I appreciate that. However, such frustrations can spur us on to more learning. Your comments about referrence material will be passed on. However, I assume you have the books which were recommended for study: Sanjay Rath's books and Narasimha Rao's Vedic Astrology? Good luck with your continued studies, you are starting well.
