Guest guest
HARE RAMA KRISHNA Dear Gurus, Please accept my very late submission of Lesson 4 below. Between my other responsibilities and holidays and preparing for this lesson it took me a long time to complete. I learned a lot about the planets and my chart in this lesson so I am grateful for the lesson. I know the aim of this lesson was to learn the characteristics of the planets but I'm hoping that in the future we will have a lesson on Vimshottari dasa interpretation because I did not feel confident in this area. I hope that my errors will be corrected. Comments from all are welcome. Your sishya, Karen Lesson 4: The Planets 1. List the sign, degree and status of each planet in your chart. Based on the following data: July 18th,1964 8:31pm –4GMT 74W00 40N43 Graha Rasi sign Degree Status House Owns Comments Lagna Capricorn 6’38 1 Kendra/trine Sun Cancer 3’01 7 8 kendra Moon Scorpio 1’14 Debility 11 4 upachaya Mars Taurus 28’42 5 4,8 AK, trine Venus Taurus 28’01 Own 5 5,10 Trine Mercury Cancer 24’16 7 6,9 kendra Jupiter Aries 27’46 4 3,12 kendra Saturn Aquarius 10’46® Moolatrik. 2 1,2 Lagna lord Rahu Gemini 7’24 Exalted 6 2 dusthana Ketu Sagittarius 7’24 Exalted 12 8 dusthana There are different characters of each planet mentioned throughout the lesson. Identify from your own chart, at least one characteristic of each planet from your Rasi and Navamsa and write how does it influence you during its dasa or antaradasa. SATURN: A Saturnine sign rises in my chart in both the Rasi and Navamsa. In the rasi, Capricorn rises and Saturn is retrograde in its moolatrikona sign Aquarius bringing its fruits after hard work, discipline, perseverance and sorrow. Being retrograde means it is a karmic indicator pointing to the reason for my rebirth. Saturn in the second and in house of family may mean that I desired to do family work. In fact, is has been a simple desire of mine since I was a little girl just to be a wife and mother and keep a happy home. My university studies and career have always been secondary. Saturn being of vata dosha, I have a short stature and thin body and weak knees, socially oriented and active mind. Saturn being placed in the 4th house from the moon affecting mental happiness I am prone to depression but am able keep it at bay with mantra. I ran Saturn Mahadasa for the 19 years from age 2- 21, basically my entire youth, school and part of my university years which has characterized by a strict upbringing and a being hard-working student. Saturn being the lord of the 3rd from the AL (counted in reverse) gave me a younger sister in Saturn-Saturn. Although Saturn is considered a neuter planet, it usually indicates females. I have been running the Saturn antara of Mercury MD since May 2000. It has been a very difficult antara. It was during this time that Saturn matured in my 36th yr. Being 4th from Moon it brought deep disappointments in my personal life. It is posited in the 2nd house from the lagna ruling the face and mouth and Saturn ruling teeth. It was during this time that I had an accident badly injuring my mouth and teeth. At the same time Saturn is a planet of spirituality and asceticism. It was during this time that Sanjay-ji accepted me as his student and I decided to teach yoga and meditation. MERCURY: Mercury joins the Sun in the 7th in the rasi giving my husband its qualities: intelligent, learned, youthful appearance, changeable and knowledge of litigation. He is an attorney. Mercury being the 6th lord placed with the Sun in the 7th house makes my marital life difficult. Being lord of Upapada and placed in 12th from it is also not good. This gives my husband qualities of the Sun such as bossy, domineering and older than me by 10yrs. Mercury placed in Navamsa lagna makes me talkative and interested in learning, mathematics, astrology, writing and arts. I have been running the Mahadasa of Mercury since 1986. Mercury lords the 6th and 9th houses in rasi. The sixth being the house of service and health and mercury being a planet of learning and the 9th house as the house of higher education it makes sense that starting Mercury-Mercury I began my hospital internship in Medical Technology. KETU: I begin the Mahadasa of Ketu in about one year’s time. Ketu is the natural karaka for moksha and is exalted in Sagittarius my 12th house. Although the 12th house is the house of loss and expenditure, misfortune and hospitalization, it is also the house of meditation and moksha. I believe Ketu MD will be a time of increased spirituality. This June I will ready to begin teaching Yoga and meditation so this may correspond well having argala on my 10th house. In the navamsa, Ketu trines the lagnamsa giving mathematical ability and technical skills. I was working as a Medical Technologist during Merc-Ketu VENUS: Venus is the natural karaka for love and affection and is placed in its own sign, Taurus in my 5th house. It is during Merc-Venus that I met my husband. Venus is 5th in it’s own is a very good placement for artistic talent and knowledge of mantra and happiness from children unfortunately it is debilitated in the navamsa robbing it of some of it’s strength. I have almost virtually no artistic talent at all but thanks to Gurudev’s masterpiece Vedic Remedies we can all share in his knowledge of mantras. God willing, I reach my Venus Mahadasa in the year 2010. Being the lord of the 5th and the 10th house in the rasi and 11th from the Sun, I expect the Venus MD to be a very good period for my son, devotion, learning and professional growth. JUPITER: Since my jamna nakshatra, Vishaka is lorded by Jupiter; my first Mahadasa began with Jupiter but only for the first 2.5 years of my life. Jupiter is the planet that wants to bless us with good things as a result of poorvapunya (past life credit). Being placed in a kendra in the house of a friend is a great blessing. Being placed in the 4th house with no obstruction has direct influence on the lagna giving good education, home, happiness, vehicles and property. On the other hand, Jupiter is the 12th lord so will be good for spirituality but may spoil material gains. By rasi dristi, Jupiter aspects the 8th house wanting to give knowledge of the occult, 11th house gives blessing of good friends and material gains and 2nd house giving blessing of wealth, good food happy family life. Jupiter as the third lord is a maraka (death –inflicting) for father and in the last days of Merc-Jupiter my father left his body. Mercury as the 9th lord represented my father. SUN: In my rasi the Sun is poorly placed in the 7th house and lords the 8th from lagna. The Sun joins Mercury but not combust forming a budha-aditya yoga giving skill in one's work and learning. I was married during the vimsottari dasa of Mercury-Sun. Both planets are posited I the 7th house and the sun lords the Upapada. In the Navamsa, Mercury is in the lagna and Sun is the 7th lord. However the Sun as the 8th lord also gave me interest in the occult especially astrology. It was in Merc-Sun that a friend introduced me to astrology. In fact, it was a friend that gave me a copy of my chart and my husband’s as a wedding gift. MOON: Moon is the natural karaka of the mind and mother. My moon is placed in Scorpio, the natural 8th house and my natal 11th house. The Moon lords the 7th house and is waxing but is quite debilitated. I had merc- moon dasa in the early years of my marriage before my son was born. I don’t recall any specific events relating to moon during that time but I do know it was a happy time. MARS: Mars is a natural malefic but also the atmakaraka, ruling the 4th and 11th house and posited in the 5th house. Mars is bad placement for children also marriage since it has argala on the 7th house. However, I did give birth to my son during Merc-Mars. Mars in the 5th gave rise to a health crisis surrounding the delivery of my son. Mars aspects 7th, 10th and lagna by rasi dristi. Mars is the natural karaka of passion, anger, accidents, and aggression but also gives energy, determination and ambition. Mars being joined with Venus in the 5th I think tempers these negative qualities somewhat but still my marriage is filled with arguments and disharmony. RAHU: Rahu, being a malefic, is well placed in a dusthana (6,8,12) house and will yield good results particularly good health, defeat enemies and excel in detailed service. I believe this placement was involved in my career in medical research (technical skills + health). Rahu is also the karaka of foreign people and places. It was during Saturn-Rahu that I made 2 trips overseas.
