dear lakshmi

d1 shows the overall aspects of life. d9 show the dharma of a person.

karakamsa analysis shows what the soul desires. but what is desirable

may not always fructify. thus if you have combust mercury, then

working as a writer might be difficult. But at the same time u can

write for hooby or write as a part time.

Look at dasamsa or d10 for career in writing. There might be many

fools like partha who are not really that eloquent but do become

authors due their karma(laughs).

Om Gurave Namah

Namaste Partha,

Thanks for your suggestion. Though I work in a Bank, I do have a legitimate

platform to er.. wax eloquent, because I am the editor of an in house IT

magazine.

Partha, I have really been thinking hard about Mercury being karaka for writing,

but some how I am not convinced. Mercury symbolizes great information gathering

& intelligent processing capacity. He also gives eloquence that can effectively

package the output. But is this enough? For any writing to be relevant,

shouldn’t there be something deep & universally valid within all that

eloquence? And, if those qualities are there, is the eloquence really

necessary?

For example, in “Gajendra Moksham” do you think that Gajendra could have

possibly made his appeal for help with great rhetoric and faultless syntax?

His cry for help was hardly cerebral…“kaavave (traahimaam) Varadaa”..is that of

a child in trouble and the Lord rushed to him like a mother. Take Thyagaraaja’s

or Annamayya’s keertanas…they portray great philosophical dilemmas and man’s

ceaseless search for Truth in such simple effortless language. The content is

never dwarfed by the wordplay. And they are timeless in their appeal, because

they touch the heart and celebrate the Truth within. Jupiter & Sun and Saturn,

Partha, but I don’t think Mercury….he’s too light & effervescent.

Lakshmi

dear lakshmi

you made me smile. Now you are a philospher too(laughs).

I have read few years in which classic(well i dont remember), but the

statements were something like this for writing , i will give you a

gist

a)jupiter and moon in konas produce good writers

b) the same combination should be seen from lagna, karakamsa lagna

and navamsa lagna.

the statement made me think a lot. because i always thought mercury

was the guy who gives writing ability. When i searched deeper, i came

to understand(that was 4 years ago), that moon because of his

creative ability and jupiter due to his innate ability to visualise

and understand the higher planes are deemed to be good writers.

ok that was good. But on further investigation i found in many

classics that mercury is the information collecter, the person

responsible for printing, publications and writing.

SO here i go. i integrate the two things as i am working NOW FULL

TIME AS A WRITER.

mercury give journalism, writing careers, but to be a great author

one needs support of jupiter and moon. So for me mercury is in lagna,

jupiter in 5th in aries, and moon in 10th in virgo, confirming that i

can write for a living(laughs). But surely i can never write as

beautifully as you do (laughs), because for you moon and jupiter are

strong but not mercury!!!!.

BTW sun is for management kind of stuff, saturn is for hard writing,

religious, melancholic etc

partha

Hare Rama Krishna,

dear lakshmi & partha,

Interesting discussion. I disagree on some points which I thought I

would bring up.

- Lakshmi, you imply that your writing ability may be impaired by Me

being combust. I do not think this is totally accurate. Sun + Mercury

endows the native with Budhaditya yoga which may make him/her

intellectually brilliant. Albert Einstein had this combination with

Sun & Me in the 10th house. These results no doubt will depend on

various other influences, however many grahas do quite well even

though they may be technically combust. From what I remember, you

have Mercury combust in Leo, which would probably produce good

results as Sun is in his own house + in a kona.

- I concur with Partha that a strong Mercury is quite essential for

good writing & communication. Mercury provides this expressive

ability. Jupiter grants wisdom & intelligence, but without a strong

Mercury one will not be able to articulate oneself with clarity.

Om Gurave Namah

Namaste Vishal,

Regarding Mercury, he’s a karaka for intellect, but then one can't be wise

without being intelligent, while one can be intelligent without being wise.

There’s enough proof in the world for this. I always felt that Jupiter

presupposes & includes Mercury, and the reverse is not true.

Mercury as pure intellect is like a precocious & impressionable child who needs

a firm hand to guide him and settle all that undulating energy into lasting

tasks. He needs the stern, disapproving but concerned fathers/gurus like Sun,

Jupiter & Saturn around for that. I do concur with you that intelligence (

effect of Nipuna yoga ) may not be impaired because Mercury is combust. Only

the original flamboyance might be somewhat tempered into a more conservative

format.

For example, in Einstein’s chart, his 10th house has a formidable line-up of

planets, with so many rajayogas. Nipuna yoga takes place in Jupiter’s house

(pisces), Who’s stationed in 9th house. Saturn (9th lord) is in 10th house, in

powerful parivartana with Jupiter (7th & 10th Lord). Also, you can’t disregard

the fact that the 5th & 12th lord Venus is exalted and Sun (3rd lord) in 10th

house has digbala. So, Mercury was literally in the company of giants! With

them in control, Einstein’s visionary intellect was yoked to passionate wisdom

& it made him what he was and what he continues to mean to generations of us.

Great writing is enabled by exalted Jupiter, moon & venus combo. Mercury does

give ability to communicate well, but in a frothy, light-hearted way, unless

otherwise influenced.

By the way, thanx for making me look at Einstein’s chart. He’s one of my all time fav guys!

Regards,

Lakshmi

Hare Rama Krishna, dear lakshmi & partha,Interesting discussion. I disagree on

some points which I thought I would bring up.- Lakshmi, you imply that your

writing ability may be impaired by Me being combust. I do not think this is

totally accurate. Sun + Mercury endows the native with Budhaditya yoga which

may make him/her intellectually brilliant. Albert Einstein had this combination

with Sun & Me in the 10th house. These results no doubt will depend on various

other influences, however many grahas do quite well even though they may be

technically combust. From what I remember, you have Mercury combust in Leo,

which would probably produce good results as Sun is in his own house + in a

kona.- I concur with Partha that a strong Mercury is quite essential for good

writing & communication. Mercury provides this expressive ability. Jupiter

grants wisdom & intelligence, but without a strong Mercury one will not be able

to articulate oneself with clarity.Vishalsjvc, "partvinu5"

JAYA JAGANNATHA!

Dear Sai,

Namaste.

Dear Members,

I totally agree with Vishal that the yoga would exist

even if Mercury is combust. May be to a lesser degree.

DEFINITELY, IF MERCURY IS CLOSELY COMBUST, HE WILL NOT MAKE THE NATIVE ABLE

TO UTILIZE HIS KNOWLEDGE. IT WILL REMAIN THEORETICAL.

Vishal, Can you please explain what you meant by "more

conservative format".

I have heard people saying that Nipuna Yoga ( in any

house ) will help the native to specialize in some

area and get advanced degree. Is it true..

THE MOST POTENT IS IN THE 5TH HOUSE OR ITS ARUDHA. TRINES IS ALSO GOOD, AS

HE WOULD GIVE GOOD ABILITIES, KENDRAS IS STILL GOOD, BUT NOT EXTRAORDINARY,

AND IN DUSTHANAS IT WON'T GIVE USEFUL RESULTS.

What is the effect if it is in the Second House ?

MAKES THE NATIVE ABLE TO EXPRESS HIS IDEAS AND KNOWLEDGE IN SPEECH, I.E.

ORATORY ABILITY. I HAVE NIPUNA YOGA IN THE 5TH HOUSE WITH MERCURY IN 21 DEG

FROM THE SUN. MERCURY IS 2ND LORD AND THEY GIVE RASI DRISTI ON THE 2ND

HOUSE. I'M ASLO TOLD TO BE A GOOD COMMUNICATOR AND SPEAKER, EVEN IN ENGLISH

LANGUAGE ALTHOUGH IT'S NOT MY MOTHER TONGUE.

BUT IF YOU LOOK FOR THE NATIVE'S PROFESSION, FIND THE LORD OF THE VARNADA

LAGNA. MY VL FOR EXAMPLE IS IN TAURUS, AND ITS LORD VENUS CONJOINS JUPITER

(BRAHMINICAL ACTIVITY, E.G. TEACHING, PRIESTHOOD, ASTROLOGY) IN SCORPIO

(BRAHMINICAL SIGN, MYSTICISM, PSYCHOLOGY, COUNSELLING). THUS IT DESCRIBES MY

AREA OF ACTIVITY VERY APTLY.

Hare Rama Krishna,

Hi Lakshmi,

I think we're close except for the part about Jupiter presupposing

and including Mercury. Jupiter represents the cosmic or higher

intelligence. His is the intelligence that is not formed from a

theoretical knowledge, it just knows. Mercury on the other hand is

more wordly in its working and as such represents how we interact

with society (speech, writing, commerce). Thus a person may be very

intelligent (strong Jupiter), but still not appear as such due to a

weak Mercury (inability to express oneself).

Thanks for pointing out the many strengths of Einstein's chart. He

was no doubt one of the greatest - a scientist par excellence.

can't

be wise without being intelligent, while one can be intelligent

without being wise. There's enough proof in the world for this. I

always felt that Jupiter presupposes & includes Mercury, and the

reverse is not true.

child who needs a firm hand to guide him and settle all that

undulating energy into lasting tasks. He needs the stern,

disapproving but concerned fathers/gurus like Sun, Jupiter & Saturn

around for that. I do concur with you that intelligence ( effect of

Nipuna yoga ) may not be impaired because Mercury is combust. Only

the original flamboyance might be somewhat tempered into a more

conservative format.

formidable

line-up of planets, with so many rajayogas. Nipuna yoga takes place

in Jupiter's house (pisces), Who's stationed in 9th house.

Saturn

(9th lord) is in 10th house, in powerful parivartana with Jupiter

(7th & 10th Lord). Also, you can't disregard the fact that the

5th &

12th lord Venus is exalted and Sun (3rd lord) in 10th house has

digbala. So, Mercury was literally in the company of giants! With

them in control, Einstein's visionary intellect was yoked to

passionate wisdom & it made him what he was and what he continues to

mean to generations of us.

Mercury does give ability to communicate well, but in a frothy, light-

hearted way, unless otherwise influenced.

dear lakshmi

by being a fellow jovian i could have agreed that jupiter is karaka

for writing. But i am not that partial to my lagna lord. The

important fact that i have observed is that jupiter is an advisor and

mercury is the information carrier. if we read our mythology books

then we could see why. mercury is supposed to be close to king, he is

the guy who is known for his innate sense in policy making and

carrying messages. To be diplomatic one needs the blessings of

mercury and venus. The style of writing is always determined by the

strongest planets. But that is not the point, but the point is

whether we write after all. writing may be tempered due to the

presence of other "Giants" but the need to write, the need to express

in written form comes only because of mercury. The discussion is not

regarding poetic beauty or lyrical supremancy. It is regarding the

need for WRITING and that is always given by mercury.

regards

partha

Agreed. I have an example chart, libra asc with mercury in 8th with mars

while jupiter is exalted and vargottama in 10th - extreme intelligence but

hopeless at spoken expression and practical intelligence like doing taxes

accounts etc which are much simpler. Very good at written expression

though - as Jupiter rules the 3rd?

[sjvc] Re: Mercury--professions-dear Lakshmi

He

was no doubt one of the greatest - a scientist par excellence.

be wise without being intelligent, while one can be intelligent

without being wise.

>

> For example, in Einstein's chart, his 10th house has a

formidable

line-up of planets, with so many rajayogas.

Namaste,

I just wish you had seen my many posts on Saturn before you made this

statement, Partha, and he's a first rate maraka for us(saggies). And, having

him in lagna and coping with the delays he induces is not easy. Yet, I have

written more about him & Sun than I ever did about Jupiter.

I always said Mercury does give writing ability, well compulsive if you so

insist, but a little discipline that gives a lot of direction, is it bad?

Infact, that's what Budhaditya yoga does, no?

Regards,

Lakshmi

to my lagna lord. The important fact that i have observed is that jupiter is an

advisor and mercury is the information carrier. if we read our mythology books

then we could see why. mercury is supposed to be close to king, he is the guy

who is known for his innate sense in policy making and carrying messages. To be

diplomatic one needs the blessings of mercury and venus. The style of writing is

always determined by the strongest planets. But that is not the point, but the

point is whether we write after all. writing may be tempered due to the

presence of other "Giants" but the need to write, the need to express in

written form comes only because of mercury. The discussion is not regarding

poetic beauty or lyrical supremancy. It is regarding the need for WRITING and

that is always given by mercury.regardsparthasjvc, "vbamba"

Dear Lakshmi,

Namaste,

Have you seen the post "JUPITER vs MERCURY" in Varahamihira archives? It is a

discussion between Sanjay ji & Narasimha Rao & is very instructive.

Best wishes

Shailesh

Re: [sjvc] Re: Mercury--professions-dear Lakshmi

Om Gurave Namah Namaste, I just wish you had seen my many posts on Saturn before

you made this statement, Partha, and he's a first rate maraka for us(saggies).

And, having him in lagna and coping with the delays he induces is not easy.

Yet, I have written more about him & Sun than I ever did about Jupiter. I

always said Mercury does give writing ability, well compulsive if you so

insist, but a little discipline that gives a lot of direction, is it bad?

Infact, that's what Budhaditya yoga does, no? Regards, Lakshmi partvinu5

<partvinu5 > wrote: dear lakshmiby being a fellow jovian i could have

agreed that jupiter is karaka for writing. But i am not that partial to my

lagna lord.
