Guest guest
Dear sanjay guru and learned members of the list, i am going to submit the answers to the first three lessons Lesson 1: Astronomical Definitions: Answers: ans.1: The ecliptic is the Sun’s path or calledRavimarga. This path, forming a curved line, once ayear touches the Tropic of Cancer, during summersolstice and once the tropic of Capricorn, duringwinter solstice and crosses the equator twice a yearat the time of the equinoxes. Due to the Sun’smovement in the ecliptic, seasons are changing. Thereare six seasons, each lasting during the period ofSun’s transit in two signs. In the Uttarayana, Sun’sentrance to Capricorn to his entrance to end ofGemini, three seasons or ritus occur: Shishir (whenSun is in Capricorn and Aquarius), Basant (in Piscesand Aries) and Greeshma (in Taurus and Gemini). Oncethe Sun enters Cancer, the Dhakshinayana starts and lasts till the end of its presence inSagitarius. The three seasons are Varsha, Sharad andHemant during the Sun’s stay in Cancer and Leo, Virgoand Libra and Scorpio and Sagitarius, respectively. ans).2: When the Sun reaches the southernmost pointduring the winter solstice (Dec 22); during this time, the parts of the globe beyond the northernmost pointswill not have Sunrise. Similarly, when the Sun reachesthe northernmost point during the summer solstice (Mar21st ); during this time, the parts of the globe beyondthe southernmost points will not have Sunrise. This ismainly due to the Sun’s extreme declination either tothe south or north. Q.3: Parasara states that there are two classes ofheavenly bodies: the non-moving ones, callednakshatras and the moving ones, called the planets orgrahas. On both sides of the ecliptic, the sun’s pathway theheavens, there is an imaginary belt of 9 0 – 9 0 inside which all the planets revolve. This broad beltof 18 0 is called the Zodiac. This Zodiac has beendivided into 27 equal parts and each part is known asthe nakshathras or the non-moving bodies. The planetsor grahas which are 9 in number, including the twochaya grahas and these are the moving bodies, as theyare moving continuously through the asterisms ornakshathras in the Zodiac. The celestial condition – the planetary position andpattern/combination, at birth influence to determinethe pattern of whole life of human beings fromconception to death. The planets during their constantmovements sometimes get activated and sometimes getdepressed depending on their positions in relation tothe non-moving bodies or nakshathras. The nakshathrasalso serve as reference points due to their fixednature, to determine the position of the planets whichare constantly moving. However, both have influence onthe human beings. Q.4: The astronomical principles in my own chart: 1. The ascendant or lagna is calculated according tothe Indian standard time the local longitude andlatitude of my place of birth. since i was born in delhi, i can take the Indian standard time.2. The positions of houses or rasis, ascendant andplanets (all moving bodies or points) are given withreference to the nakshathras and the rasis (non-movingbodies).3. The ayanamsa is used to convert the chart from theSayana to the Nirayana Zodiac.4. Sun in my chart, is in scorpio, hence in Dakshinayana.5. jupiter is above sun's ecliptic so is ketu. all others are below the ecliptic. Assignment on Lesson 2: Q:1.
