December 2001 10:58 PMShri Jagannath Vedic Center class[sjvc] Hope

for the class

Dear Guru Solaiji,I was sad after I read your response to Alexandra regarding

your outlook forthe class. I can't speak for others, but I have benefitted

greatly from thelessons and the discussions/writings of the gurus and senior

sisyas. Idon't take part directly in the discussions because I am unqualified

to doso; most of my time is spent absorbing the information coming from the

gurusand senior sisyas. I fervently hope you and they continue, and I'm

sorrythat I haven't expressed my appreciation earlier. Please, please

continuethe lessons and your discussions for our benefit. [solai] No. We will

not stop. My concern is: members joined this group with the intention of

learning Jyotish. Everyone knows this before joining this list. These initial

lessons does not require any formal knowledge of Jyotish. These are all very

very basic. But, members are not attempting it. Why? If they have difficulty in

understanding, they are open to ask in the list. I do not know what is holding

them. This class and the articles/books of the SJVC gurus is my main source

forauthentic, comprehendible Jyotish. For those without a local guru, this

isprobably our best and only hope to advance in this sacred science. Irecently

began teleconferencing with an SJVC Jyotish Guru once a month forone or two

hours, but even with that blessing it will be a long time beforeI have a solid

enough foundation to graduate to the Varahamihira class.I know most of us are

very busy, but there must be some of us willing tocommit the time necessary to

learn. This forum provided me with the hope ofgrowing the seed of my knowledge

because I can visit with it almost daily.Would the SJVC gurus sanction very

nascent beginners' discussions in thisclass? Something along the lines of

simple, step-by-step chart analysis sothat we can gain the benefit of

repetition in context, offering attempts atinterpretation and asking questions

about why a certain interpretation waschosen, etc., under the watchful, caring

eyes of our gurus? Something likethat would give us direction to focus our

self-study on, allowing us todelve more into the literature with a reference to

start from and theassurance of help. I know Jyotish is much, much more than

mechanics, buthow can we apply the principles of interpretation and

thespiritual/ontological information given in the lessons so far if we

don'thave a practice field? Perhaps assignments on specific readings

inspiritual literature and discussions on them as well? Further assignmentson

the terminology/etymology of Jyotish? I'm just trying to find a way ofrallying

the beginning members and keeping us engaged without going againstthe

traditional method of teaching. Some of us can continue individually inour

research, but collective focus on a topic and trustworthyfeedback/guidance is

so necessary to learning. [solai] You are right and this is what we are

planning to do. But, it needs participation and interaction. These basic simple

lessons are meant to create interest in the very beginners to try the lessons.

As you mentioned, we are starting with very slow pace. In spite of that we are

unable to make them attempt the lessons. Thanks for your feed back, which gives

the informations for us to frame the lessons.

Thanks

RAGAVENDRAYA NAMAHJAYA JAGANNATHANamaste Alexandra,We are not going to remove

any member from the list. We are forcing themembers to attempt the lessons for

the benefit of the members. I am also astudent only. But, Gurudeva is spending

his most of the time for teachingus. His time will be justified only when more

students learn withdedication. There are certain circumstances, which are

beyond our control, like what you have mentioned and it is understandable. But,

out of the 155members, only 29 have answered for lesson 3 and it is the 3rd

week from thelaunching of the lesson. Lessons are meant to ignite the fire in

the membersin learning. Just by looking at the mails, we will never learn

astrology. Ifeel sad that I didn't start to learn Jyotish at very young age.

Even if Ihad started at young age, this birth will not be sufficient to learn

even atiny portion of Jyotish. So, I request others to come out and interact

withrest of the members by answering the lessons.ThanksSolai KannanYour use of
