Guest guest
Dear Solai, Namaste & sincerre thanks for your encouraging comments about my response to the Lesson#2 assignment. My response to Lesson#3 assignment is given below, for your evaluation, comments and valuable guidance. You may be aware that I had originally submitted these answers to assignment of lesson 2 in Varahamihira group. With best regards,Shailesh Q1. Which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division or the twelve signs of the zodiac and why? Ans: The study of nine planets and the twelve-fold division is called ‘JYOTISH’ – the light (jyoti) of God (ish). The source and karaka of light in our zodiac is Sun – it is therefore the natural choice for the overlordship of this zodiac. All other grahas only reflect the light they receive from this SUN. Sun is also the most important ‘graha’ from another point of view: ‘Jyotish’ is concerned with the study of ‘life’ (and the living)- the Sun is the harbinger of light. Q2. Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara & Narayana. - Solai Kannan sjvc Thursday, December 06, 2001 2:39 PM [sjvc] Lesson -3 OHM SHRI RAGAVENDRAYA NAMAH JAYA JAGANNATHA Namaste Jyotisha, I appreciate all who has attempted lesson-2 and I will reply for the left out members soon. I hope we are not rushing with lessons and 3 weeks is more than sufficient for attending simple lessons like this. Here is lesson 3, most of the contents are related to the initial chapters of BPHS. So, please read those chapters along with this lesson. If any members, who are not familiar with any terminology in the lesson, please write to us and the members, who know the meaning will reply. So, please, do not feel shy or inferior to ask any clarification. I know that some of the members might not heard about the Guna (Modes of Nature). It is dealt in almost all the Hindu scriptures. However, for the benefit of such members, I am also enclosing the extract taken from Srimad Bagavatam and Bagavatgita related to these 3 Gunas. May Jagannatha bless us all. Hare Rama Krishna. Guest guest
hare rama krishna I am answering these questions with the benefit of the feedback that Gurudeva had given on varahamihira. Q1. Which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division or the twelve signs of the zodiac and why? Of the 7 grahas, only the luminaries do not exhibit retrograde motion. Also, all of them revolve around the only stationary body--Sun. Hence, he is the naisargika atmakaraka. Life flourishes because of him. We can see this from drawing the Sudarsana Chakra representing the Body (lagna), Mind (moon) and Soul (sun). The body houses the mind and soul, and the mind is a reflection of the soul. That is why yogas involving lagna cannot fructify if the moon or sun is weak. Similarly, yogas involving the moon cannot fructify if the sun is weak. Although there are 7 grahas, there are only 6 Shadripus. I suspect that each of the grahas except Sun indicates one of them. I have tried to give a correlation below. Mo attachment (mother) Ma anger (enemies) Me pride (achievements, honours) Ju greed (wealth, fortune) Ve passion (potency, marital bliss) Sa envy (troubles, disease) Q2. Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara & Narayana. Nara is the area bounded by the finite radius defined by the saptama dweepas. Narayana is infinite and hence unbounded. In the bha-chakra square, the area within the square is split into the fundamental divisions of trikonas and kendras. Within this region, the grahas exert their influence. The inside of the bha-chakra square is representative of Nara. The area outside the square is representative of Narayana. ajit -- Ajit Krishnan ajit http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~ajit
Guest guest
Namaste! 1. The overlord planet is Surya or Ravi the Sun. 2. There are many good diagrams already been submitted. I agree that in a sense the imperceptible is not really able to lend itself to explanation. My sense of it is as a pure light brighter than a magnesium flare. Earth, Moon (Rahu/Ketu), Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun are in Nara. The 12 spokes of the wheel we know as the 12 signs. They are a combination of the 4 Elements in Space (Akash) and the 3 gunas. All else is the Infinite Narayana. Sometimes appearing as a large blue being with Jyoti for eyes. Om Sri Ganapati Ki Jai!
