Guest guest
OHM SHRI RAGAVENDRAYA NAMAH JAYA JAGANNATHA Namaste Jyotisha, I appreciate all who has attempted lesson-2 and I will reply for the left out members soon. I hope we are not rushing with lessons and 3 weeks is more than sufficient for attending simple lessons like this. Here is lesson 3, most of the contents are related to the initial chapters of BPHS. So, please read those chapters along with this lesson. If any members, who are not familiar with any terminology in the lesson, please write to us and the members, who know the meaning will reply. So, please, do not feel shy or inferior to ask any clarification. I know that some of the members might not heard about the Guna (Modes of Nature). It is dealt in almost all the Hindu scriptures. However, for the benefit of such members, I am also enclosing the extract taken from Srimad Bagavatam and Bagavatgita related to these 3 Gunas. May Jagannatha bless us all. Hare Rama Krishna. Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! Namaste Guru & Jyotisha, 1. The next question is which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division or the twelve signs of the zodiac and why? The sun operates the zodiac, and due to him all other planets have an opportunity to exist. It allocates a heat and light all alive essences and all universe, therefore it is represent as Surya-Narayana or supporting all creations. The sun is the natural representative of the God, and operates under His order as it is described in Brahma-samhita (5.52): yac-chaksur ena savita sakala-grahana raja samasta-sura-murtir asena-teja yasyajnaya bhramati sambhrita-kala-cakro govindam adi-purusa tam aham bhajami "The sun, who is the king of all the planets, full of infinite effulgence, the image of the good soul, is the eye of this world. I adore the primeval Lord, Govinda, in pursuance of whose order the sun performs his journey, mounting the wheel of time." The Sun a planet is doubtless operates bha-chakra. 2. Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara & Narayana. Our universe, with its planets, and our vision of it, will fall under influence Nara, with its final orbit of movement by Saturn. Above it or that is not shown and will be incomprehensible under influence Narayana. Actually, that is not connected with God, our materialistic vision of things etc. will be under influence Nara. The exit from this concept opens for a way to divine, Narayana. Guest guest
Namaste Guruji, Here is my attempt at Lesson 3. 1. The next question is which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division or the twelve signs of the zodiac and why? Answer - In BPHS, chapter 3, slokas 12-13, it states how different planets act as karakas for different parts of the mind, body and soul. Sun is stated to be the karaka of soul, moon for mind, mars for strength, mercury for speech, Jupiter for knowledge and happiness, Venus for potency while Saturn for grief. If one does not have a soul, all other parts such as mind, strength, speech, etc. will cease to exist. Hence, Sun is the reason for existence of living beings. Secondly, lets have a look at Sun from another angle, we know that Sun is the centre of the solar system and binds different planets to revolve around it via a complex mixture of gravitational and centrifugal forces. These forces act differently upon different planets depending upon the respective planets' size, distance etc. and hence produce different results. Hence, Sun is the reason for the existence of the solar system. Thirdly, where do all the planets get most of its light energy from? Of course, in the absence of Sun, light energy could be produced on any planet as a by-product of a chemical or nuclear reaction. However, the same would be limited and insufficient for sustenance of life. This means that the main and constant source of energy still is the Sun. Light is needed for life, hence Sun is the reason for life. This leaves me with no doubt that Sun should be given the lordship of twelve-fold division of the zodiac. 2. Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara & Narayana. Answer - As noted in the given lesson, the finite radius or range that affects the lives of mortals on Earth is defined by Saptama Dweepa or the area traversed by Saturn in its revolution. Nara signifies the finite, hence, the area traversed by Saturn is the area of Nara and the rest is that of Narayana, i.e,. the area beyond the area traversed by Saturn is that of Narayana, the infinite. Bha-chakra with its 12 spokes is centred in the area traversed by Saturn and divides this area in 12 equal parts of 30 degrees each signifying 12 signs starting with zero degrees of Aries. I would be grateful for your feedback for my attempt. Question - why is it called as 'Bha' Chakra? why 'Nila' shakti is called so? Basically, I am looking to find the basic meaning of these Sanskrit words. Also, I could not find the reason for Saptama Dweepa to be the finite radius in Sankaracharya's prayer after reading just the English translation, then I looked at the sankrit version and found 'Saptadeepa' in second line. Now, the English translation does not indicate this as seven planets but as seven continents. Does saptadeepa mean seven planets or seven continents? Guest guest
Assignment 1. Which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division ot the twelve signs of the zodiac. Sage Parasara in Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra Chapter I 5-8 gives the answer he says “Having offered my obeisance to Lord Brahma, his power Sri Saraswati Devi, and the Sun God, the chief of the planets and the cause of creation, I shall relate to you the science of Astrology as it was heard by me from Brahma.” The Sun is the atman and it interpenetrates all the Grahas and the twelve signs of the zodiac. 2. Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara and Narayana At this time I am unable to make and send graphic. Guest guest
HARE RAMA KRISHNA ------ Lesson 3 - answers by Arno Holzmann 1) Surya is the king of all planets and the worthy overlord of the Bha chakra. Narayana pervades the whole creation and the rays of the Sun pervade the whole solar system. Thus, amongst planets, Surya is the representative of Narayana. All planets within the range of the Bhu mandala disk reflect the light emanating from the Sun. The Sun is self-effulgent and only due to its rays can there be life on earth. Surya is by far the biggest and most powerful planetary body in the solar system. All grahas are forced to follow his command, i.e. rotate around Him under the spell of his gravitational pull. Surya is the source of all life but it can also destroy all life: According to the Puranas, some parts of the solar system will be destroyed at the end of the day of Brahma by the scorching heat of the Sun. Another indication of the overlordship of the Sun. So there can be no other Lord of Bha chakra. The Sun is the King and the Moon is the Queen. Both of them rule one half of the zodiac. Interestingly, the apparent size of the Sun and the Moon are exactly identical for observers stationed on earth. This becomes obvious whenever the Moon eclipses the Sun: the lunar disk then exactly covers the solar disk. However, the Moon merely reflects the light of the Sun. So Surya is the emperor of the zodiac. The Suns movement causes day and night and its apparent movement around the earth creates the year. Its northern (Uttarayana) and southern course (dakshinayana) divides the year into two halves and six seasons and its movement through the 12 signs of the zodiac divides the samvatsara into twelve months. 2) The earth is at the center of the Bha chakra. It we take the north indian diamond chart, the earth is stationed at the intersection of the two diagonal lines which connect the four corners of the diamond. Within its square boundary, centered around the intersection point of the two diagonals, we can imagine seven orbital paths - the sapta dvipa of Bhumandala (Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn- in the order of their distance from earth). These planets move through the twelve signs represented by the 12 bhavas of the diamond chakra. The area within the boundary of the chakra (encompassing the earth, the nava grahas, the zodiac signs and the seven islands all the way to Saturns orbit) is the finite realm of Nara. Beyond it is the realm of Narayana which continues infinitely. Actually, Narayana is also within the finite realm but he is avyakta murti, not manifest to our eyes, unless he wishes tho reveal Himself. Guest guest
Namaste Solaiji, Thanks for your evaluating my previous attempt of lesson-2 and encouraging me. Here is my attempt for the next lesson. Please evalute it and guide me. >>The next question is which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division or the twelve signs of the zodiac and why? "Of all the planets I'm the Sun" - this is what flashed my mind after reading your question. Lord Krishna has clearly stated this in Shri Bhagvad Gita. Also, Sun and Moon are the two eyes of Lord Vishnu in His Universal form and Jyotish is also called the eyes of Vedas. Thus, these two luminories rules the jyotish. Out of the 2, Sun is more powerful. Sun also represents Lord Rama. Lord Krishna also said - "Of all the warriors, I'm Lord Ram". As Sun represents lord Ram, this is the most powerful planet and the authority to rule over 12-fold division of the zodiac. Astronomically also, Sun is the planet which gives its light to all the planets, including Moon. Sun also represents Atma (soul). and soul is nothing but a part of God whose ultimate aim is to merge with Him again. So, needless to say that Sun (Atma) is the king of all the planets. >>2. Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara & Narayana. The area which comes under the revolution of all the 9 planets is the area of Nara. The limit is the area of Saturn (farthest planet from earth). But this is the limitation of Nara. Narayana is limitless. Hence, all area after that till the "end of limitless" is Narayana. I'm trying to explain more w.r.t Karma. Taking Earth as the centre of the zodiac (since we're on earth and 9 planets effect us) and the 9 planets around us is actually the result of our karmas. We're bound to live here and get the results (good / bad) of our karmas. The results are given by Lord Vishnu in his different forms (Saturn - Koorma, Jupiter - Vamana, Rahu - Varaha etc.). Our goal is to cross this boundry of Nara and reach into the boundry of Naryana. When Atma tries, the Saatwik planets (Sun, Moon, Jupiter) helps, the rajasik planets (Mercury, Venus) tries to attact to illusion and the tamasik planets (Mars and Saturn) tries to induce new bad karmas. They not only provoke us to do new karma but they also give the results of our previous karmas. That's why we should do our karmas without expecting any kind of results. The best thing here is ONLY human beings have the potential to do new karma also. Hence, he should worhsip saatwik planets to get their blessings and to overcome taamsik and raajsik planets. It's only after that he'll be able to get out of this limited vision and merge with naryana (final emancipation - moksha). Guest guest
Please accept my humble obbeisances. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Krishna. Hare Krishna. Here is my attempt. jagannathah svami nayana-patha-gami bhavatu me - Questions about the lesson: 1. What "srishtikarta" means? 2. Which are the six weaknesses that born from Rajoguna (shadripu?)? 3. Please comment on this. In the Figure 3, it says "Predominant amsa", but from what i read from BPHS, i understand differently. What i understand is that Varahadeva, Nrisimhadev, Lord Rama and Krishna, are completly Paramatmamsa, and that the other incarnations have jeevatmamsa too, but with paratmamsa as Their predominant amsa. "O Brahmin, the four incarnations viz. Rama, Krishna, Nara Simha and Varaha are wholly endowed with Paramatmamsa, while the other incarnations have in them jeevamsa too." BPHS 2.2 by Girish Chand Sharma. 4. It's said that the four fould division is the second fundamental division of the bhachakra. The gunas, its third fundamental division. Later, the division of twelve are born of this two. So, which is the first fundamental division? Answers. 1. Surya is the over-lordship. In BPHS, Parasara said: "...Having offered my obisance to Lord Brahma, his power Sri Saraswati Devi, and the Sun god, the chief of the planets and the cause of creation..." In Bhagavat Purana, 5.21.3 says: "In the midst of that region of outer space [antariksa] is the most opulent sun, the king of the planets that emanate heat, such as the moon. By the influence of its radiation, the sun heats the universe and maintains its proper order. It also gives light to help all living entities see..." and in 5.22.6 "The sun-god, who is Narayana, or Vishnu, the soul of all the worlds, is situated in outer space between the upper and lower portions of the universe..." 2. The schematic representation could be the applet i send days ago, where Nara is from the center of Bhachakra (the earth) until the orbit of Saturn, and Narayana is the rest of the space. I searched, and found that about Nara, Srila Prabhupada said: "The word 'nara' means the aggregate total of all living entities, and 'ayana' means the resting place. The form of Garbhodakasayi Visnu is called Narayana because He rests Himself on that water. In addition, He is the resting place of the cosmic manifestation". Guest guest
Hare Krishna! Jaya Jaganatha! > The next question is which Graha should be given the over-lordship of this twelve-fold division or the twelve signs of the zodiac and why? Sun is the only luminous planet in the solar system. Rays from other planets are actually sunrays deflected from their bodies. Without Sun no other planet could have astrological effect. So Sun undoubtedly could be given over-lordship of twelve signs of the zodiac. > Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha-Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of Nara & Narayana. Guest guest
HARE RAMA KRISHNA OM GURAVE NAMAH Pujya gurudev, My answer to lesson3 is given below. 1)which graha is the lord of the 12 signs of zodiac and why? ans) The lord of the zodiac is the one who controls the movements of other planets in the zodiac. The Sun is the star(griha - planet) which controls this in our solar system and so he is the lord of the 12 signs of the zodiac. 2)Make a schematic representation of the Earth, Bha Chakra with its 12 spokes and mark out the areas of nara and narayana? Ans:)The diagram is shown in the picture attached forthwith. The reason for the depiction is that Narayana is the kala purusha. The signs from aries onwards are the limbs of kalapurusha.Hence, the signs from aries onwards are shown as head, face, neck, chest etc of the kalapurusha. Thus, the kalapurusha pervades the entire zodiac. But, the Narayana we are envisioning is just a partial manifestation. The Srimad Bhagavatham tells us that the Supreme Lord contains all different universes along with ours and thus he is infinite. Nara is influenced by all the planets which move in the zodiac and thus he is at the center of the wheel . Liberation is achieved when one understands that one is actually an observer of the various fields just like a speck of dust at the center of the wheel sees the configuration of the wheel and spokes.
