OHM SHRI RAGAVENDRAYA NAMAH

JAYA JAGANNATHA

Namaste Nandan,

Thanks for the glossary.

1. If we give the reference of a site address, there is no problem.

2. If we circulate through mails, the extract/ or copy of a web page, (which is

not a restricted site, where login is through registration), I think there is

no problem. But, if we publish the same material in another page, without their

permission, it will be a violation. It includes pictures and animations in a

site.

3. If we are quoting some material from a web page and if we give their

reference or link, I think there will not be any problem.

As far as Sanskrit Encyclopedia is concerned: Let Awhile have these materials as

reference. But, let him prepare his own and Gurudeva and Narasimha will correct

it at the end. For example, one member asked, what is mean by Rig and Yajur. We

cannot say these are two of the four Vedas. We should elaborate on this.

Similarly, for 'Narasimha' - Saying, one of the 10 incarnations of MahaVishnu

will not be sufficient. We should explain, Nara means man and Simha means Lion,

and in order kill the demon Hiranyakasibu and to show the power of Bakthi of

Prahalada, lord Maha Vishnu incarnated as Narashimha with Lion's head and human

body. For further information read so and so book. So, in such cases we will not

be taking any material as it is from the sources. We will be modifying it.

If you are referring to hard published books. We need not copy it. But, if we

extract the information and put it in a different format like summary, I do not

think it will be a problem. Though, it is a restricted e-group, if some one by

mistake send the mails to someone else, it might create some problem. So, let

us prepare the materials without hurting anybody. I am more concerned about

hurting anybody than the violation of any rules.

Thanks

Solai Kannan

AMsjvcSubject: 1. Encl Goravani's Sanskrit gossary, 2. Qn

on copyrt violns RE: [sjvc] CompilingSanskrit words - to AbhilekhDear Abhilekha

& othersPlease note that www.goravani.com has a Sanskrit-astro dictionary

(calledglossary), which could be your starting point for your exercise. Wanted

tojust give u this reference, but cd not find it when I browsed the site

justnow. Has to be there somewhere, as I got it originally from there.

However,as cd not find it, am attaching it.I hope someone cd also throw some

light on copyright violation issues inall this. What's the ethical/ legal stand

on all this? If I quote thesource & provide/ copy something on the List/ Net,

is it OK? Does it make adifference if it is "as-is" vs "summarised/ edited" &

mentioned as such?Does it make a difference if it is a restricted List (eg

SJVC), & hence, not for public consumption? Does anyone know/ understand the

issuesinvolved in all this?Best wishesNandan(See attached file: dicnry.doc)
