Guest guest
Jai Jai Shri Jagannath! Om Guruve Namah! Dear Gurudeva, I would like to first thank SJVC and Guruji Solai for accepting me as a student in this classroom. God bless us all. I am providing answers for Lesson 1. Please correct me where I am wrong. Pranaam, -Suresh 1. Explain the changing of the seasons and its connection with the above mentioned astronomical factors. Ans: As the orbit of Earth around sun is Elliptical, Earth is closer to Sun sometimes and farther away at other times during the year. And Earth's axis of rotation is inclined at 23.5 degrees, and the orbital plane is inclined as well (I am not sure of degrees of inclination). When Earth moves from one solstice to other(Maxima points of Elliptical orbit) Sun appears to move from South to the North( Uttaraayanaa) for six months and North to the South (Dhakshinaayana) for the rest of the year. Northward journey of Sun results in Spring and Summer for norther hemisphere (Lattitudes noth of equator), and the Southward journey results in Autumn and Winter for northern Hemisphere (Opposites for the southern Hemisphere). Even though distance to a two opposite points on the elliptical orbit from the center (Sun) is the some distance to a point on the surface of Earth (Lattitute) will not be the same due to the inclination of earth's axis of rotation, resulting in oppsite seasons. 2. There are some days of the year when the Sun either doesn't rise or set above certain parts of the globe. Please explain this phenomenon. Ans: When Earth is closer to Winter/Summer solstice (Maxima points on the elliptical orbit of earth around the sun), Poles are either below the ecliptic or above the ecliptic by more than 18 angular degrees, resulting in no sun rise or sunset. 3. Parasara mentions two classes of heavenly bodies: the moving and non-moving ones. Please explain, what will be the difference between their roles in the astrological interpretation. Ans: Moving objects are said to be Grahas (planets) and Non- moving ones are Nakshatras (constellations). Non moving objects in astrology may be considered as permanent influences or soul's desires. And Moving objects may be maybe considered as the influences/desires on/of the body and mind. Planets and Planetary influences may be assumed to be filtered by or Non-moving object's indications – Soul's Journey. 4. If you are able to construct your own chart, please do it and explain as many astronomical principles from it as you can (terrestrial latitude/longitude, season, Sun's cycle, Sunrise/Sunset etc.). Also try to determine which planets are above and under the horizon in your chart. In which Ayana the Sun is? Ans: - Born on the Morning of November 23rd, before Sun rise, So for astrological calculation the Date of birth needs to be considered as Nov 22nd – as the day in astrology is considered from Sunrise to Sunrise. - Sun is in Scorpio, and so is in Dhakshinaayana (Sun moving from Leo to Capricorn – Dhakshinaayana, From Aquarious to Cancer is Uttaraayana) - Planets between first house and sevent house are below the horizon, and the rest are above the horizon. So in this chart, Venus, Sun, Saturn, Moon are all below the horizon and Jupiter, Mars are above the horizon. As far as planets in 1st and 7th, if the longitude of planets in 1st house is greater than that of the Ascendant, then they are below the horizon and vice versa – So Mercury (25 deg 04min) is below the horizon, and Ketu (21 deg 59min) is above the horizon (for ketu' longitude is reckoned from the end of the sign), Rahu (21 deg 59 min) is below the horizon. -- These calculations were made using "Jagannatha Hora Lite". It is a free software from Sri Jagannath Vedic Centre. You can download it from http://www.geocities.com/~astrowhiz or http://www.sjvc.net. -- Date of Birth: November 23, 1966 Time of Birth: 5:10:00 am Time Zone of Birth: 5:30 East of GMT Longitude of Birth: 79 E 55 Latitude of Birth: 13 N 09 Lunar month (maasa): Karthika Lunar day (tithi): Sukla Ekadasi Tithi balance: 0.8090 Nakshatra balance: 0.5650 Sun-Moon Yoga: Vajra Sunrise = 6:12 am (Apparent rise - upper limb) Ayanamsa = 23-23-28 Dasa year length chosen = 365.2425 days Planet Position Pada CharaK Resi OwnTara InTara Rasi Nava Naks Sub Ascdt 21 Li 34 Visakha 1 - - - P.Mitra Ve Ma Ju Ju Sun 6 Sc 50 Anuradha 2 GK 2% Pratyak Janma Ma Me Sa Me Moon 9 Pi 08 U.Bhaa. 2 PiK 17% Sadhana Janma Ju Me Sa Ve Mars 0 Vi 34 U.Pha. 2 DK 40% Naidhana Pratyak Me Sa Su Rh Mercury ® 25 Li 04 Visakha 2 AmK 77% Sampat P.Mitra Ve Ve Ju Me Jupiter ® 11 Cn 05 Pushyami 3 BK 30% P.Mitra Janma Mo Ve Sa Mo Venus 10 Sc 18 Anuradha 3 MK 25% Kshema Janma Ma Ve Sa Ve Saturn ® 29 Aq 32 Poo.Bhaa. 3 AK 47% Janma P.Mitra Sa Me Ju Mo Rahu 21 Ar 59 Bharani 3 PK 97% Mitra Kshema Ma Ve Ve Sa Ketu 21 Li 59 Visakha 1 - 97% Vipat P.Mitra Ve Ma Ju Sa BhavaLg 20 Li 20 Visakha 1 - 92% -- P.Mitra Ve Ma Ju Ju HoraLg 4 Li 47 Chitra 4 - 12% -- Naidhana Ve Ma Ma Ve GhatiLg 18 Le 10 Poo.Pha. 2 - 77% -- Kshema Su Me Ve Rh Dhooma 20 Pi 10 Revathi 2 - 91% -- Sampat Ju Sa Me Ve Vyati 9 Ar 49 Aswini 3 - 22% -- Vipat Ma Me Ke Sa Pari 9 Li 49 Swathi 1 - 22% -- Mitra Ve Ju Rh Ju I.Chapa 20 Vi 10 Hastha 4 - 91% -- Sadhana Me Mo Mo Ke Upaketu 6 Li 50 Swathi 1 - 2% -- Mitra Ve Ju Rh Rh Kaala 21 Ge 33 Punarvasu 1 - 100% -- P.Mitra Me Ma Ju Ju Mrityu 5 Le 06 Makha 2 - 10% -- Vipat Su Ve Ke Ma ArthaPr 28 Le 05 U.Pha. 1 - 56% -- Pratyak Su Ju Su Mo YamaGha 21 Vi 23 Hastha 4 - 99% -- Sadhana Me Mo Mo Ve Mandi 18 Ta 50 Rohini 3 - 82% -- Sadhana Ve Me Mo Me Gulika 7 Ta 11 Krittika 4 - 4% -- Pratyak Ve Ju Su Ke +----------------------+ | | | | | | | | Glk | | | Moo | Rah | | | | | | Mnd | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | | | SatR | | JupR | | | | | | | | | |-------------| R A S I |-------------| | | | | | | | | | | | GL | | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | HL BL | | | | Sun | | | | | | Asc | Mar | | | Ven | | | | | | Ket MerR | | +----------------------+ +----------------------+ | | BL | | | | | | | Mnd | | Glk | Asc | MerR | | | | | | SatR | | | Ket | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------| N A V A M S A |-------------| | | | | | | | | | Mar | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | Rah | GL | | | | | | | | HL | JupR | Sun | | | | | | | | | Ven | Moo | +----------------------+ Vimsottari Dasa: Satu 1966-11-23 Sun 1968-08-08 Moon 1969-07-21 Mars 1971-02-19 Rahu 1972-03-30 Jupi 1975-02-04 Merc 1977-08-17 Ketu 1980-01-14 Venu 1981-01-10 Sun 1983-11-11 Moon 1984-09-16 Mars 1986-02-16 Rahu 1987-02-13 Jupi 1989-09-01 Satu 1991-12-08 Ketu 1994-08-17 Venu 1995-01-14 Sun 1996-03-15 Moon 1996-07-21 Mars 1997-02-19 Rahu 1997-07-18 Jupi 1998-08-05 Satu 1999-07-12 Merc 2000-08-20 Venu 2001-08-17 Sun 2004-12-17 Moon 2005-12-17 Mars 2007-08-18 Rahu 2008-10-17 Jupi 2011-10-17 Satu 2014-06-17 Merc 2017-08-17 Ketu 2020-06-17 Sun 2021-08-17 Moon 2021-12-05 Mars 2022-06-05 Rahu 2022-10-11 Jupi 2023-09-05 Satu 2024-06-23 Merc 2025-06-05 Ketu 2026-04-11 Venu 2026-08-17 Moon 2027-08-17 Mars 2028-06-17 Rahu 2029-01-16 Jupi 2030-07-18 Satu 2031-11-17 Merc 2033-06-17 Ketu 2034-11-16 Venu 2035-06-18 Sun 2037-02-15 Mars 2037-08-17 Rahu 2038-01-13 Jupi 2039-02-01 Satu 2040-01-07 Merc 2041-02-15 Ketu 2042-02-12 Venu 2042-07-12 Sun 2043-09-11 Moon 2044-01-17 Rahu 2044-08-17 Jupi 2047-04-30 Satu 2049-09-22 Merc 2052-07-29 Ketu 2055-02-16 Venu 2056-03-05 Sun 2059-03-06 Moon 2060-01-29 Mars 2061-07-29 Jupi 2062-08-17 Satu 2064-10-04 Merc 2067-04-17 Ketu 2069-07-23 Venu 2070-06-29 Sun 2073-02-27 Moon 2073-12-16 Mars 2075-04-17 Rahu 2076-03-
