Guest guest
Om Sri Gurave Namah Pranam to our jyotish gurus, Here is my attempt at the first lesson: 1. Explain the changing of the seasons and its connection with the astronomical factors The earth's axis is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees to its elliptical orbit around the sun. This means that the different hemispheres are exposed to different amounts of sunlight throughout the year. Because the sun is our source of light, energy and heat its rays give rise to the 4 seasons. 2.There are some days of the year when the Sun either doesn't rise or set above certain parts of the globe. Please explain this phenomenon. The solstices mark the points at which the poles are tilted at their maximum toward or away from sun. Around the time of the summer solstice the North pole is tilted toward the sun and so it experiences the longest day. The South pole at the same time is furthest away from the sun and so experiences the longest night. The situation is reversed around the time of the winter solstice when the South pole is closest to the Sun. 3. Parasara mentions two classes of heavenly bodies: the moving and non-moving ones. Please explain, what will be the difference between their roles in the astrological interpretation. The nakshatras or stars are the non-moving bodies while the grahas are the moving bodies. A rashi is a fixed cluster of stars. The rashis thus represent a fixed division of the zodiac that is the same for everybody. The grahas operate within the backdrop of the rashi and nakshatras. The grahas thus serve to manifest the energies of the stars that they rule or occupy or significate. 4. If you are able to construct your own chart, please do it and explain as many astronomical principles from it as you can (terrestrial latitude/longitude, season, Sun's cycle, Sunrise/Sunset etc.). Also try to determine which planets are above and under the horizon in your chart. In which Ayana the Sun is? My rising sign is Dhanus (Sagittarius). It was Dakshinayana. The signs above the horizon are from Dhanus -> Mithuna (Gemini). Birth is during the day. Position of planets is (Date of Birth is 2nd Sep '68): As 03:54 Sg Su 16:32 Le Mo 18:02 Sg Ma 24:19 Cn Me 07:35 Vi Ju 21:32 Le Ve 06:42 Vi SaR 01:32 Ar Ra 16:34 Pi Ke 16:34 Vi Planets above the horizon are: Moon Venus Mercury Ketu Sun Jupiter Mars Planets below the horizon are: Saturn Rahu - Vishal
Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! Dear Jay, Namaste. Yes, the definition of Upagrahas is correct from the astronomical point of view. Now my question is still concerned about the ASTROLOGICAL difference, i.e. what do they mena in the chart: Nakshatras, Grahas and Upagrahas? Yours, Gauranga Das Vedic Astrologer <gauranga Phone: +36-309-140-839 Jyotish Remedies: WWW.BRIHASPATI.NET - "Jay Weiss" <jayhw <sjvc> Saturday, November 03, 2001 6:16 PM Re: [sjvc] Answers to lesson 1 > Dear Gauranga Das, > > Sorry about that. > According to Parasara the Upagrahas are mathematical points which are computed/calculated by various combinations in relation to a reference point (like the Sun's longitude etc.). I will not go into deep details here as they are found in the standard text and many other books. However there are 11 of them and they are divided into two groups with attached status (malefic etc.). > > Regards > > Jay Weiss > > > - > "Gauranga Das" <gauranga > <sjvc> > Saturday, November 03, 2001 4:00 PM > Re: [sjvc] Answers to lesson 1 > > > > JAYA JAGANNATHA! > > > > Dear Jay, > > > > Namaste. > > > > > > > > Ans.
