However, here is something worth considering. Vimsottari dasa is not always the best dasa to use. If all the quadrants from the stronger reference of lagna, Moon and Sun are occupied, then kendradi graha dasa that starts from that reference works very well. This is also called "Moola dasa". Even when all the quadrants are not occupied, Moola dasa works very well. This dasa is excellent for a quick delineation of life phases. * * * For computation rules and an interesting example of interpretation, see the following reference. (1) EXAMPLE: Moola Dasa of Saddam Hussein By Narasimha Rao, 7th Aug 1999 vedic astrology/1525.html * * * In this chart, Moon is the strongest reference. The rule used: "swaami gurujna drig yogaha". Jupiter and dispositor (Jupiter again) aspect Moon. Start Moola dasa from Moon. Because Moon is in Pi, an even sign, we count panaparas and apoklimas in reverse. We should take the planets in quadrants in the order of strength, then the planets in panaparas in the order of strength, and finally the planets in apoklimas in the order of strength. So we should look at planets in Pi, Sg, Vi and Ge in the order of strength, then planets in Aq, Sc, Le and Ta in the order of strength, and then planets in Cp, Li, Cn and Ar in the order of strength. (1) Planets in Pi, Sg, Vi and Ge: They are Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Sun and Mars. Jupiter and Saturn are strongest because they are 2 planets together. Jupiter is the strongest (own sign) and then Saturn. Then is Moon (aspected by Jupiter and dispositor). Then Sun and then Mars, because Vi containing Sun is stronger than Ge containing Mars (Mercury is in an odd sign and Vi is even). (2) Planets in Aq, Sc, Le and Ta: They are nodes. Rahu in Le is stronger because Le is stronger than Aq. Sun is in an even sign and Le is odd. (3) Planets in Cp, Li, Cn and Ar: They are Venus and Mercury, who are together in Li. Venus is stronger (in own sign). So the final order is: Jupiter, Saturn, Moon, Sun, Mars, Rahu, Ketu, Venus and Mercury. * * * Jupiter is in his moolatrikona and his dasa is for 16 years. We get a count of 3 by counting houses from Saturn in Sg to his moolatrikona Aq. We see that 3-1=2. So Saturn dasa is for 19-2=17 years. >From Moon in Pi to his moolatrikona Ta, count is 3. We see that 3-1=2. So Moon dasa is for 10-2=8 years. Jupiter: 1960-1976 Saturn: 1976-1993 Moon: 1993-2001 Despite any yogas in this chart, Moon dasa is not very good. Moon is in 12th from lagna (gives wandering and instability). Arudha of Moon is in 8th from lagna (the native's perception: confusion, pressures and trouble). Moon is in the 8th from arudha lagna (people's perception is: native is not doing well). Thus all the three lagna-Moon interactions show bad results. Moon dasa is not a great dasa. Especially the last 1.5 years saw the antardasas of nodes (not that good). [Note: Antardasas in Moon dasa go just as dasas above. All antardasas have equal duration.] Venus antardasa will run for most of the next year. Things should be better from this year end. * * * Though Venus is a yogakaraka, his Moola dasa comes too late in life. Moola dasas running for the last several years being ordinary, we cannot expect mahapurusha yoga to manifest. Which dasa is the most suitable for judging a particular matter for a particular person is a tough question. For general delineation of life phases, however, Moola dasa is pretty good. Vimsottari dasa doesn't work well in all charts. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha
