I may add that antardasas (AD) in a shoola dasa start from the sign containing the lord of dasa sign and proceed in the regular zodiacal order. All antardasas are equal in length (9 months each). Lower level sub-periods can be found in the same manner. JFK Jr was running the 4th AD (of 9 months) in the 9 year Gemini dasa (1996-2005) during Feb-Nov 99. Because Mercury is in Libra, this AD is the 4th from Libra, i.e. Capricorn. If you divide these 9 months into 12 parts, 7th part was running at death. From the lord of Cp (Saturn), 7th is Ge. You can find that JFK Jr died during the sookshma dasa of Ge-Cp-Ge-Sg as per Shoola dasa and during the sookshma dasa of Vi-Sg-Ge-Ge as per Brahma dasa. The prominent role played by Ge and Sg makes good sense because Ge contains mrityu pada and Mars in death-inflicting degree and Sg contains Maheswara in apamrityu ('bad' death) saham and 7th and 8th lords. Find the stronger of the 1st and 7th houses according to the following rules, listed in order (in other words, if the first rule applies, then ignore the rest. If the first does not apply, whereas the second does, then use the second, and ignore the rest. Note that the following strengths were given by Sanjay Rath in his translations of Jaimini Upadesa Sutras, for Phalita, or result-based dasas such as Narayana dasa. If Sanjay could modify these for the use of Ayur (longevity) dasas, I would be grateful. 1. Whichever one out of the 1st or 7th house is occupied by a great number of planets is stronger. 2. If they are joined by an equal number of planets, or if there are no planets in the 1st and 7th, then take whichever one is aspected by *more out of* (1) its own lord; (2) Jupiter; and (3) Mercury. 3. If they are still equal, then the stronger sign (Mutable>Fixed>Movable) prevails. (This, of course, will not count when analyzing the first and 7th, as the first and 7th will always be signs of the same modality). 4. If they are still equal, then the one which has an exalted planet in it, is stronger; if a debilitated planet is in one, then prefer the other as stronger. (With Jaimini astrology, use Gemini as Rahu's exaltation, and Sagittarius for that of Ketu. Reverse it for their debilitations). 5. Failing still to find a stronger one, then the sign whose lord is placed in a sign of different oddity, is stronger. For example, the lord of an odd sign, placed in an even sign, is stronger than the lord of an even sign, placed in an even sign. 6. If they are still equal, then the sign whose lord is higher in degrees, is strongest (In this respect, take Rahu and Ketu from the end of the sign (i.e. 30 degrees - N degrees of Rahu). This will finally decide the stronger one. SHOOLA DASA * Study in Jaimini and Parasari books, how to determine short, medium, or full longevity (Alpayu, Madhyayu, or Purnayu). Sanjay Rath's books "Maharshi Jaimini Upadesa Sutras", and "Crux of Astrology" are the best available sources for these studies. * Each Shoola dasa is nine years, and the dasas begin from the stronger of the 1st and 7th houses as above, and progressing forward zodiacally. Thus the first term of longevity falls between 0 and 36 years; the second between 36 and 72; and the third from 72 to 108. Determine which sign, in the allotted term of longevity (4 signs of 9 years each = 36 years), will most likely bring about death. Then you have narrowed down the term of longevity to a 9 year period, as in JFK JR.'s chart, where the term was between 36, and 45 years. * Death dasas are as follows: The one most afflicted, or the 3rd or 8th sign from the Arudha lagna; The 3rd or 8th from the Atmakaraka planet; The planet occupied or aspected by Rudra or Mahesvara The 2nd or 7th houses from the ascendant And, the 8th or 12th from the ascendant, or the Sun or Venus * Sub-periods are for 9 months each, beginning from the dasa sign, and progressing forward zodiacally. Eclipses are bad omens as far as death happening to someone, at some time. First you must make a longevity judgment as above, using an Ayur dasa like Shoola, and then see if the eclipse joins natal factors related to longevity (Sun or Moon, lagna lord, or AK planet) during the period when longevity is likely to be over. In my experience, the eclipse usually happens two or three days before the event of death, as in the deaths of Princess Diana and Mother Teresa, for example. Anyway, I hope this helps!
