My dear brother,

In the second dasa, I think we take the quadrants from lagna.

A dasa called "Moola dasa" is referred to by Kalyana Verma. This is a

variation

of Vimsottari dasa. Dasas of planets in quadrants from lagna will run first,

in

the order of decreasing strength. Then dasas of planets in panapharas will

follow and then apoklimas (again take all the planets in panaphara and them

in

the decreasing order of strength). Dasa years are "normal Vimsottari dasa

years

minus a correction factor". Correction factor is 0 if a planet is in its

moolatrikona. If not, distance from the planet to its moolatrikona will give

the

correction factor. If the planet is exalted, 1 year is added to the

correction

factor.

The first example of this dasa that Sanjay taught me belongs to Lord Sri

Rama!

As per tradition, he has Moon and Jupiter in Cancer lagna (Moon in first

3.33

degrees), Saturn in Libra, Mars in Capricorn and Sun in Aries. So their

dasas

will run first. Because Moon and Jupiter are in a sign with 2 planets, their

dasas will run first. Moon is stronger and his dasa will run first, Jupiter

dasa

next and Saturn dasa after that. Moon dasa is for 10 years. Next Jupiter

dasa

is

for 10 years, because correction factor is 6-1+1=6 and 16-6=10 (Note: From

Cn,

Jupiter's moolatrikona Sg is 6th. So correction is 6-1. Add 1 for

exaltation).

During these 10 years, Rama learnt Vedas etc from his illustrious guru -

Brahmarshi Viswamitra. Then Saturn dasa came. From Libra, Saturn's

moolatrikona

Aquarius is 5th and he is exalted. So the correction factor is 5-1+1=5

years.

So

Saturn dasa is for 19-5=14 years. Saturn is the exalted 8th lord. So this

resulted in Rama's giving up throne and going for 14 years of exile in

forests.

Due to exalted Mars's argala on Saturn, he had to bravely fight with demons.

This dasa system is defined only for the rasi chart, but you can experiment

it

with divisional charts also. In my software, try the menu item "Moola dasa"

under "dasas" and choose the divisional chart you want in the dialog box. I

think the program you have is old. I will send you the latest program with a

more acceptable method of comparing the strengths of planets. Then

experiment

with Moola dasa! Try it on many charts and see for yourself how it works!

With blessings,

Your brother
