Paradox of the Field of Renunciation

To all members:

In the Fourth Canto of Shrimad Bhagavatam, there is a story of a sage

and his wife who wanted to procreate excellent descendants. With

this in mind, they decided to undergo several methods of yoga, such

as breathing exercises and fasting. The sage himself decided to

stand on one leg for a thousand years.

Eventually, he was able to see visions of the Lord of Creation who

appeared in three forms as Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Through his

efforts he was able to win the benediction from the deities to

procreate Chandra and other children for posterity.

After analyzing this story in terms of jyotish principles, we can see

that the 12th house, the house of moksha or renunciation is being

discussed. The author of the story is saying in a paradoxical way

that the act of renunciation has benefits even in the material or

relative life.

For people who are active in careers and family life, it is not

practical to renounce the entire world as depicted in the story.

However, we can interpret the act of renunciation to be the practice

of meditation or Karma Yoga in particular. Meditation is a way to

elevate oneself from the three gunas. In jyotish terms, the 12th

house is the 8th house from the field of thoughts and intelligence,

the 5th house.

Through meditation, one gets the understanding of the mechanics of

the universe. This is depicted in the sage's vision of deities in

Brahma (Lord of the sattwa guna), Vishnu (Lord of the rajas guna),

and Shiva (Lord of the tamas guna)

This means that meditation, an act of renunciation which is relegated

to the 12th house, has dramatic effects on one's chart. Specifically,

1. The moksha houses (4,8, and 12) are enhanced.

2. The person can gain in educational and real estate matters, which

are related to the 4th house.

3. Power to procreate children since the 8th house creates an argala

for the 5th house.

4. Promotes better relationship with spouses since the 8th house has

argala on the 7th house.

As we go through the progression, all of the other houses are

similarly affected in a beneficial way.
