Hi Steve and all,

Evidently, more than 40 passages in Viswanathan's book contain identical

language and common scene/language structures from Megan McCafferty's first two

books. This seems to be a bit more extreme than simply a slight subconscious

internalization of her favorite author's (McCafferty's) ideas.

Hi Juliana,

Yes, it does seem a bit too much for 'unconscious' plagiarism--unless

she has some sort of selective photographic memory. I hadn't read these

examples you are citing.

In a few cases of plagiarism for individuals with accurate birth data, I have

not seen the Pluto-Mercury contact you mentioned for George Harrison, Steve,

but more Neptune-Mercury contacts; 2nd lord and/or Mercury placements in the

8th or 12th house; and malefics in the 2nd house:

1) Author Stephen King was accused of plagiarism. He has Mercury conjunct

Neptune in the 3rd house of publishing.

2) Author Mike Barnicle was accused of plagiarism. He has Mercury conjunct

Neptune in the 12th house and the 2nd lord of writing in the 8th house.

3) The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. has been accused of plagiarism. He has

Mercury and Neptune conjunct in their Navamsas and Rahu conjunct Mars in the

2nd house of the Rasi chart.

4) Author Kitty Kelly has been accused of plagiarism. She has Neptune in the 2nd

house in full aspect with 2nd lord Mercury in the 8th.

I think you are right on this--I've just checked some other examples

that often show the Mercury/Neptune contact. I haven't looked at the

2nd lord or Mercury's placement in the 8th and 12th houses, but I'm

sure there is more to this than just simple planetary contact.

I include all non-Vedic aspects when looking at the Mercury/Pluto (and

all other planetary relationships as well). These include the sextile,

semisquare, sesquisquare, quincunx etc.

In the above, Stephen King also has a close Merc/Pluto sextile, Kitty

Kellly a Mercury/Pluto trine, and Michael Barnicle a Merc/Pluto trine

in navamsa (Fagan ayanamsa).

It might be interesting to look at the difference between persons who

are convicted of plagiarism as opposed to simply being accused and

conscious versus unconscious plagiarism.

Perhaps Neptune and Pluto both play a role.

Best,

Steve

Hi

Steve,

For another famous case of plagarism, check out historian Doris Kearns

Goodwin. She is a very prominent American historian who got into

trouble a few years ago with her book on the Kennedy family.

Apparently, she lifted several thousand words from another author's

work without proper citation. She has her share of backers though, so

it's less cut and dried than this current case.

There's no birth time here on the wikipedia entry, but perhaps her

birthday may yield a clue.

Hi Chris,

Thanks!--a very interesting case. She is born Jan 1, 1943 in Brooklyn,

NY. She has a highly aspected Mercury that includes the combinations

under current discussion (a Merc/Pluto opposition and a Merc/Neptune

trine).

Best,

Steve

i would think nep-merc

could give someone the ability to 'stretch the truth.'

also would also give authors a great imagination

and an ability to hear the muse. good for songwriters.

good for poets. good for liars.

pluto? bush has mercury-pluto conjunction within one degree of orb.

Well hell's bells. Thought I'd crawl out from under my

rock and share that I have Pluto conjunct the

ascendant trine a Mercury/Mars conjunction and both

Pluto and Merc/Mars are sextile Neptune.

Everyone protect your valuables!

One thing I'll say in favor of this argument though, I

have the unsavory ability to copy just about anything.

Give me a blank page and tell me to draw a horse, and

I'll draw a stick figured cow. Show me a picture of a

horse and I can copy it almost identically. I can also

copy just about anyone's signature. Hmm, I see a

pattern forming...

;-((((((

Oh! AND I'm a lawyer too!! Does that count???
