Guest guest
Dear Juliana, thanks for the explanation, last line upapada,(is it upapada lagna) I didn't understand arudha of the 12th house, how to find out upapada lagna in a chart. Thanks & regards Adi valist [valist]On Behalf Of John Saturday, April 08, 2006 5:35 PM valist Adi6Engineer: Re: arudha and upapada lagnas (for Juliana and all) Namaste Juliana and all: You wrote an excellent explanation of these padas. Maharishi Jaimini has a gold mine of astrological observations that jyotishis should apply in their modern day chart analyses. For example, the slokas relating to the navamsha lagna and the karakamsa should be applied to the arudha lagna as well. As such, the jyotishi can better understand the breadth of an individual's cosmic potential. Guest guest
Dear Juliana, thanks for the explanation again, take my chart as example 23 apr 1955 8.04am Bombay so my upapada is 2nd house, and the ruler of upapada is mercury, so what that will signify, as my married life is not good, or do I have to take mars ruling 12th house for bad pleasure. Can you explain more. Thanks & regards Adi valist [valist]On Behalf Of Juliana Swanson Monday, April 10, 2006 12:08 PM valist Adi6Engineer: Re: arudha and upapada lagnas (for Juliana and all) Hi Adi, Sorry about the confusion. The Arudha of any house is found the way I explained before: 1. Look at the distance between the house in question and the ruler of that house. Count (inclusively) how many houses the ruler is from the house. 2. Next, look at the ruler and count from that ruler the number of houses calculated in #1 above, and that is the arudha pada. 3. When an arudha pada opposes the original house, the arudha pada becomes the fourth house from the original house; when an arudha pada falls in the original house, the arudha pada will fall in the 10th house from the original house. *These rules are controversial, and not all astrologers follow them. In other words, some astrolgers do not move the padas to the fourth or tenth houses in these circumstances. The "arudha pada" of the 12th house is also known simply as the "arudha" of the 12th house, or it is also known simply as the "pada" of the 12th house. The arudha pada of the 12th house is called the upapada (UP or 12P). The upapada is used to analyze relationships. We can also analyze relationships by looking at the dara arudha pada (also called A7 or 7P) which is the arudha of the 7th house. The UP, however, is considered more important than the A7 because the 7th house has more to do with business relationships and the 12th house has more to do with sexual or love relationships. 1. Arudha pada of the 1st house is Arudha Lagna (also called AL or 1P). 2. Arudha pada of the 2nd house is Dhana Pada (also called A2 or 2P). 3. Arudha pada of the 3rd house is Bhatri or Vikrama Pada (also called A3 or 3P). 4. Arudha pada of the 4th house is Matri or Sukha Pada (also called A4 or 4P). 5. Arudha Pada of the 5th house is Putra or Mantra Pada (also called A5 or 5P). 6. Arudha pada of the 6th house is Gnati, Roga or Satru Pada (also called A6 or 6P). 7. Arudha pada of the 7th house is Dara Pada (also called A7 or 7P). 8. Arudha pada of the 8th house is Mrityu or Roga Pada also called A8 or 8P). 9. Arudha pada of the 9th house is Bhagya Pada (also called A9 or 9P). 10.Arudha pada of the 10th house is Rajya Pada (also called A10 or 10P). 11.Arudha pada of the 11th house is Labha Pada (also called A11 or 11P). 12.Arudha pada of the 12th house is Upapada or Vyapada (also called UL or 12P). To help you understand how to calculate the UL, if for instance, in a Scorpio Lagna chart, the 12th house ruler is Venus, and Venus is posited in the 2nd house, count from the 12th to the 2nd = 3, now count 3 more houses from the 2nd = to the 4th, so the UL or 12P (upapada) is the 4th house of the rasi chart. Upapada is not called an upapada "lagna." Just call it "upapada." The word "lagna" is just attributed to the AL, also known as 1P, Aruda Lagna, or Lagna Pada. All the arudha padas can be read as *reflections* of the houses from which they are derived. Perhaps the reason this subject can be so confusing to comprehend is that arudhas are mere reflections; thus, their very nature is illusory? Nonetheless, it is a fabulously mysterious topic. Guest guest
Hi Juliana, thanks a lot, understood a little, will take some time to get it as my mercury (intelligence) is fully combust and in 12th (loss), that's why! Regards Adi valist [valist]On Behalf Of Juliana Swanson Monday, April 10, 2006 2:12 PM valist Adi6Engineer: Re: arudha and upapada lagnas (for Juliana and all) Hi Adi and all... There are many ways to analyze relationships. Just briefly, you should first analyze Venus, Jupiter and the 7th house and 7th lord in your Rasi and Navamsa charts to understand your relationship potential. The chara darakaraka will tell about the soul of your partner (Venus in your chart). The UL shows the people you give most to in your life, such as partner and children perhaps? The first partner can be seen from the UL; second partner = 8th house from the UL; etc. Parasara teaches us that if the UL has a benefic in it, and if its lord is benefic, marriage will be happy. If there is a malefic influence, relationship will be problematic. So there is a mixed influence, isn't there, with Venus, Jupiter and the nodes all influencing the UL via association and rasi aspects. Maybe relationship starts out good but then there are problems? I wonder if the problems are in part because the UL is *6th* from the AL? The lord of the UL tells a lot about the spouse and her family. As you say it is Mercury in the 12th house of the rasi chart... and it is combust/weak. You can also look at the 2nd house from the UL to see the direction the marriage will go, as the 2nd house shows how we develop and enjoy what we have gained. The 2nd from the UL is Cancer ruled by the dark Moon in the 12h of the rasi chart, and Mars casts a rasi aspect from the 1st house of the rasi chart to Cancer, its sign of debilitation. This Mars influence may be challenging for family or marital happiness. You can read the UL as a lagna for the marriage partner and go from there to understand more about the partner. Also the *A7* darapada is conjunct the *A6* in the 4th house of the rasi chart/8th from the AL, so this also may be problematical in that the marriage relationship does not always give happiness. If I were giving you a reading, I would probably focus on your many strengths and suggest remedies to purify the challenging karmas and enhance a state of inner contentment so you could attract more enjoyment in your relationships and all affairs. The difficult relationship challenges can be overcome, as there is always a remedy.
