Guest guest
Mahabharat- you wanna know my memories of that book? My Vedic wife (married in Hindu cult without first even holding hands) read it to me no less than 4 times as we travelled up and down the West Coast between Portland Oregon and Berkeley California in the early 80's, when we were first married, so in love with each other, and so in love with the Mahabharat, and so in love with Krishna Consciousness, our cult, and for me, our/my temple in Portland that I ran for the movement. We drove to the parent temple in Berkeley over and over, and she would always read the Mahabharat, and we would cry at times, and laugh. It's an amazing story. In fact, the amazing thing about it is that it is such a complete and comlex story for how long ago it was written. Another touche for India. I gotta say, it's like a very long divine dramatic soap opera of Gods and semi Gods and mythical powers, demons, monsters, other planets, spaceships, you name it. They really should make a feature length, Hollywood film and make it famous in the West. Would be hard to make that screenplay though, as to read it, even fast, takes many days. By the way, for those clueless, the Bhagavad Gita or Krishna's song, the most famous Hindu book of all, is one of the Chapters from the Mahabharat, and Mahabharat basically means "Great India" and it's the story of an important dynastic split and ensuing war that led to profound changes on Earth, and profound Spiritual Discouses within the text as things get worked out. The two most important Spiritual Sections are the Bhagavad Gita and a section where Yudhistir or Dharmaraj meets his father self Dharmaraj as a lake and answers questions about the nature of reality. Some of the best pummelling, mauling, killing and cutting can be found there too. If you like barbaric warfare, it's at it's height there too, along with sex, intrigues, and meetings with Gods, vendettas that span lifetimes, etc. Gosh, it sound EXACTLY like the Irish Mythological Books, and Greek, and Etruscan....
