Guest guest
Hey Steven, I was wondering, you say you looked at 135 charts of people suffering from depression and saw certain planetary configerations stand out. Did you compare these to 'other' charts? I have a Sun/Jup 3 deg square, Jup/Node 1 deg square, Ven/Jup 2 deg sextile, Mars/Mer 0 deg conjunction, and a Moon/Node conjunction (though it is 6 degrees and therefore out of your orb). Either way, I have almost half of your total possibles, yet I've never been on anti-depressants or suffered from depression. Of course, I'm not dead yet, so it's possible that I still have it in my future. I don't know what dasa I'm in, though if I had to guess, I'd peg it as Saturn - so maybe it's coming. I'll let you know. Obviously no rule or guiding principle applies to everyone, but at what point can you look at a chart and predict or 'diagnose' (if you will) depression (or Alzheimer's [sp?], or any other thing we look for in peoples' charts) without already knowing in advance that the person has depression or whatever we're looking for? Afterall, it's different to look at a chart for confirmations than to see something without prior knowledge. Then again, Rick/Das looked at my chart once a couple of years ago and assertively stated an event in my past and he was dead on right without any prior knowledge. So, obviously some things are 'clear'. In a way, if one believes that all is predetermined, then it would make sense for the chart to show something will happen 'for sure' (duh, if predetermined). But if those people who believe that we can alter our fate (although we may never actually do so) are right, then it would make sense for the chart to merely show tendencies, or possibilities. What do you think? I know that's kind of two questions in one but since you seem to do a lot of chart research, and therefore must be interested, I'm wondering what your thoughts are. --- Steven Stuckey <steven wrote: > > In a look at 135 charts of people suffering from > depression a few things > by way of planetary configurations seem to stand > out. A 'control' group (as you suggest) is an important factor here. >I have a Sun/Jup 3 deg square, Jup/Node 1 deg square, >Ven/Jup 2 deg sextile, Mars/Mer 0 deg conjunction, and >a Moon/Node conjunction (though it is 6 degrees and >therefore out of your orb). In some cases, these individuals were not 'always' depressed, but suffered at certain times in their lives. Take the case of Brooke Shields, who just came out publicly against the statements of Tom Cruise. She became depressed due to giving birth (also known as post pardum depression). She has a couple of the Jupiter factors in her chart. I haven't looked, but her chart was probably activated in some way at the time, due to transits or dasa. I more typically go looking for combinations of Moon/Mercury /Saturn/Node to explain depression. It makes sense though that afflictions to Jupiter could be a factor as well. I would have to spend much more time on this to come up with anything really 'useable'. >Obviously no rule or guiding principle applies to >everyone, but at what point can you look at a chart >and predict or 'diagnose' (if you will) depression (or >Alzheimer's [sp?], or any other thing we look for in >peoples' charts) without already knowing in advance >that the person has depression or whatever we're >looking for? We may also be under the assumption that a signature exists, when it may also be possible that there is no such thing. Some things 'are clear' as you say and most of us have had experiences like this (when we could see something clearly and predict ahead of time). Lumping a large number of charts together and looking for combinations that stand out for a particular group may never yield the type of result that one could get by a sincere 'one on one' read between astrologer and client. This look at 'depressed' charts was not a statistical approach, but more a look at planetary tabulations. Attempting to prove astrological tenets statistically has always been a 'bugaboo'. The Universe seems to be reluctant to reveal Her secrets. :>)) >In a way, if one believes that all is predetermined, >then it would make sense for the chart to show >something will happen 'for sure' (duh, if >predetermined). Some karmas we may be able to alter slightly, others are fixed. Where 'fate' ends and 'free will' begins is anyones guess--I leave the resolution of this question up to the saints. I have tried my own experiments with this however, and found that with few exceptions, the expected event took place on schedule, despite my careful attempts to 'dodge' it. Two particular cases that come to mind were instances where I tried to avoid very negative transits against my own chart by staying home for several days and not going out. I had enough supplies by way of food etc that I did not need to go out and therefore was going to'control' the event. In one event, I was doing some light stretching work (as I had done hundreds of times before), on one of those large exercise balls. I was stretched out on my back and slightly arching on the ball, about three feet above the hardwood floor, when the ball burst unexpectedly and I came crashing down on the floor. This required a few trips to the chiropractor to straighten out. The next event (after the ball breaking), I was determined to do nothing, and stayed home and watched movies. I got through it with no ill effects (or so I thought). About two weeks later, I noticed a horrible smell coming from under the house and had to call a plumber. It turned out my sewer line had broken and had been leaking raw sewage. The plumber estimated that it had started about two weeks prior (during my 'careful' period). I'm more inclined to believe that we are powerfully under the control of planetary energy and that we may be able to make slight changes with a continuous and determined effort. My motto from the I Ching--"perserverance furthers". >Best wishes, > Steve > >
