Guest guest
Dear astro-philes, I am an atheist who does not feel the need to worship anyone or anything. But, I am always fascinated by the origins of religions and rituals all over the world. Siva linga and Yoni are worshipped together. Why? Is it a subliminal acceptance and release of sexual tensions, or deitification of sex as a holy act? Could it be a realization of the importance of procreation act as a prime requirement for human existence. We are today too ashamed to see sexual acts or sights in public. But, here we find sex organs being worshipped. I am not religious at all but I believe that all rituals arose from a genuine need to guide people towards better life. Waiting for your replies, Ashutosh.
Guest guest
Hello dear Astrologer Ashutosh and the list members, Hare Krishna. Ashutosh, the Astrologer wrote ; " I am an atheist who does not feel the need to worship anyone or anything.........". As an Astrologer, we study the TIME and Planets SUN, MOON and so on to help other people. You believe in TIME and the planets. That is why you are an Astrologer. Isn't It ? Shri Krishana speaks to Arjuna in the Bhagavat Gita , “Aham sarvasya prabhavo , mattah sarvam pravartate, iti matva bhajante mam, budha bhava-samanvitah. (Bhag. Ch.10-Text 8).” Shri Krishana says singularly, “ I AM THE SOURCE OF ALL SPIRITUAL AND MATERIAL WORLDS. EVERYTHING EMANATES FROM ME. THE WISE WHO KNOW THIS PERFECTLY ENGAGE IN MY DEVOTIONAL SERVICE AND WORSHIP ME WITH ALL THEIR HEARTS.” The translation of the above Shloka (Text) by one of the greatest world reknown modern days philosophical Scholar of Sanskrit, Bengali, English, and the Spiritual Master His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (my Siksa Gurudev) also states and confirms this in his writing of English translation of Bhagavad-gita , Srimad Bhagavatam and other revealed Vedic literature. Further more it is said in the Atharva-Veda ; brahmanyo devaki-putrah ; The son of Devaki, Krishana is the Supreme Personality and it continues, “ In the beginning of the creation there was only the Supreme Personality, Shri Narayana (Krishana). There was no Brahma, no Siva, no fire, no moon, no stars in the sky, no sun. There was only Krishana who creates all and enjoys all.” This is further confirmed in Chapter 10 Text 20 of Bhagavad gita in which Lord Shri Krishana states, “I am the Self, O Gudakesa , seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings.” >From Ch.10 – Text 21, Lord Shri Krishana states, “Of the Adityas I am Visnu, of lights I am the radiant Sun, I am Marici of the Maruts, and among the stars I am the MOON.” Further Text 22 – ch.10 states, “Of the Vedas I am the Sama-veda; of the demigods I am Indra; of the senses I am the mind, and in living beings I am the living force.” Text 23 says, “Of all the Rudras I am Lord Siva; of the Yaksas and Raksasas I am the lord of wealth (Kuvera);, of the Vasus I am fire (Agni), and of the mountains I am Meru.” Text 24 reads, “Of priests, O Arjuna, know me to be the chief, Brhaspati, the lord of devotion. Of generals I am Skanda, the lord of war; and of bodies of water I am the Ocean.” Text 25 further reads, “Of the great sages I am Bhrgu; of vibrations I am the transcendental OM. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names (japa) and of immovable things I am the Himalayas.” Text 32 ch. 10 also states , “Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the Self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.” Text 39 of Ch. 10 continues to state further; “ O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being – moving or unmoving-that can exist without Me.” Text 40 & 42 , Ch.10 Lord Shri Krishana says, “O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.” “ But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.” Chapter 9 – Text 11, Lord Shri Krishana says to Arjuna, “ Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature and My supreme dominion over all that be.” The Lord descends to this mortal world to show His pastimes (Lila) in Vrndavana which are full of happiness. The total population of Vrndavana knew nothing but Krishana. But Lord Krishana even discouraged His father Nanda Maharaja from worshiping the demigod Indra because He wanted to establish the fact that people need not worship any demigod. They need only worship the Supreme Lord because their ultimate goal is to return to His abode. In chapter 15 , verse (Text) 6, the abode of Lord Sri Krishana is described. “The abode of Mine is not illumined by the sun or moon, nor by fire or electricity. It goes on and on. So, if you are an Atheist and denying the very existence of the Creator what you are studying and practising Astrology, a part of the Veda, in my opinion, you are contradicting to yourself. I do not know why you are calling yourself an Atheist and yet, practising the divine science of Astrology the same time, you have lot of explaining to do to yourself. Hope the above is helpful. Guest guest
Dear Mohan Ji, Astrology should be studied as a science independent of religious boundaries. For example, to a Hindu, one can say that he should worship Hanuman for propitiating Mars. But, that cannot be told to a person who has a different religion. Astrological predictions should be made keeping in mind the Desh(region), Kaal(period), and Sanskriti(culture) of the native. A good astrologer should be open minded and ready to accept all opinions. I am an atheist but I don't want everyone to be like me. Its my way of life which satisfies me but it cannot be the same with everyone. I respect your feelings. It is our mutual admiration and love for astrology which has brought us in this group. Guest guest
Dear Dev Dutta, My name means "one who is easily satisfied". It consists of two words i.e aashu + tosh. Aashu means 'Quickly' and tosh means 'satisfaction' from santosh. I have read lots of religious books and have tried to find out what is the basis of all religions. My knowledge is not limited to any one religion. But, as Buddha emphasised, an intelligent person does not need a God. Man has invented God according to his own requirements. Strangely, man has also given gods human vices and virtues which can be seen in various purans and upanishads. A true astrologer does not leave anything on God. He has to find a practical way of solving astrological problems. Astrology studies Rama and Krishna too as human beings, not Gods. The whole universe with its infinite elements is moving in a pattern. It includes us too. But, that pattern is so large that we cannot comprehend it completely. We have found a way out with astrology where we study the relation between movement of heavenly bodies and life around us. I never intended to hurt anyone's feelings. Each person should follow his or her own beliefs. Anyway, in this arguement about Atheism my real query seems to be lost somewhere. I had asked what excatly the shiva linga signifies? Ashutosh. - deva dutta <deva_dutta <valist> Wednesday, March 09, 2005 18:36 RE: Maha Shivratri > > dear astrologer mr ashutosh > your name itself is synonymous with lord shiva. > yet the belief. or disbelief. > surprising. > nothing personal against you though. > please do not misunderstand. > > d > ------------ > > > > > > Celebrate 's 10th Birthday! > Netrospective: 100 Moments of the Web > > > > > > > > Links > > > > > > >
