Worship of Lord Shiva by reciting Sri Rudram (chapter 16 - Namkam and chapter 18 - Chamakam of Yajur Veda) is one of the best worships for all round dosha nivarana and to fulfill all desires. To celebrate this occasion I am performing the highly auspicious Ekadasa Rudrabhisheka Homam of Lord Shiva on Shivaratri day at New Delhi. It is one of the major Homas in homage of Lord Shiva. Any one how wants to attend it is welcome. Of the Hindu Trinities - Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara, Lord Shiva is the most easy to access & the most easy to forgive. In eternal union with Shakti He is the creator. As Mahakala He is the death and the destroyer. The entire tantra originated from Lord Shiva. To attain various siddhis and objectives He gave 64 yantras and their mantras to the world. As Nataraja He is the presiding deity of dance and music. He is the Male force in the Kundalini. Hanuman and Bhairava are two of His famous avataras. His consort Devi is the Feminine Mother force of the universe. His son Ganesha is remover of all obstacles and the ruler of all Vidyas. The two most holy rivers of India - Ganga and Narmada are associated with Him. He is the presiding deity of the Holy Himalayas and His consort Devi is the presiding deity of the Vindhyachala. Of the nine planets in Vedic astrology seven have the Shiva family as their ruling deities as follows: Jupiter and Mars - Lord Shiva, Saturn - Lord Hanuman, Rahu - Bhairava, Moon, Venus and Ketu - Devi Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam (Rudraikadasini) Homam: This Homam, where Lord Shiva is worshiped in His 11 Rudra forms, is hailed by all Vedic scriptures as one of the greatest Poojas to remove all evils, to attain all desires and for all round prosperity. The Sri Rudram hymn (chapter 16 & 18 of Yajurveda) dedicated to His worship is regarded as the removal of all sins and the giver of all that one desires. It is recited while performing most of the homas. Chanting of the Sri Rudram in rhythm purifies the entire atmosphere. In Kaivalya upanishad it is said that "Rudra Japam" can wipe out all sins and acts is a 'Prayaschitham' for all. Sri Rudram is also called as Rudra Upanishad and Satha Rudriyam. The Sri Rudram identifies 346 desires of human beings to be fulfilled to have a peaceful daily life and invokes Lord Rudra to fulfill all of them. The Astrology scriptures have repeatedly prescribed the Rudrabhishekam as a remedy for several planetary Doshas. Whether you want peace or prosperity, progeny or progress in profession, health or wealth the Rudrabhishekam Pooja is the ideal one. The Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam is a major Homa of Lord Shiva. In the regular Rudrabhishekam, Rudra Pooja is done and Srirudram is recited and Abhishekam of Shivalinga is done. However Shiva has eleven forms of Rudra. In this Homa all the 11 Rudras are worshiped and their 11 consorts are also worshiped . First the traditional Ganesha Pooja is performed. Then Kalasha sthapana of 11 Kalashas and the Shiva Linga sthapana is done. Then Mahanyasa is recited. The Shivopasana mantra and the Rudra Trishati is recited. Then Sri Rudram is recited and the Shiva Linga Abhishekam is done with the prescribed 11 ingredients like water, milk, curd, ghee, honey etc. This homa is performed by 11 pundits and each pundit recites Sri Rudram 11 times - i.e. total 121 times Rudrajapa. Abhishekam is done to each of the 11 Rudras with all the 11 dravyas prescribed. After the pooja Homa is performed with the prescribed ingredients and 1/10 the number of japas done in the pooja are repeated. It ends with poornahuti and shanti paath. Normally apart from the 11 reciting pundits 2 more extra pundits are included in the homa to look after the continuous process of abhishekam etc as it takes about 7 hours total. It is an excellent Homa for all round shanti and success in all undertakings. Om namah shivaya Janna http://seven_directions.tripod.com/ Shivaling On the dark Moon, I dream placing a pineapple on the altar of Siva and lighting a candle to burn in the darkness of the Moon. So I may dwell with the Beloved and, one day, dance, foot lifted, pointed to the sky in the new cycle of becoming birthing the Dream into being. In that stillness, as the spring snow drenched the Earth, I remembered offering myself at the temple as I lay under the pure Ganga stream, in the distance, Shivaling, where the yogi dreams above the shrill clamor of humanity in the valley below. The cool crystal water washes the ash on my forehead, and the ashes of one dear arise in my mind's eye, as I rise clear-eyed from the current rushing with the force of the river's journey homeward to the Sea. And, I bow to the deathless Lord whose form I see, motionless in the still, white glacier beyond the swift, foam-capped waters, moving surely, one day to merge in the Sea.
