Guest guest
De: "Natabara Das" <natabara.> Objet: Guide to Moon Cal Wed, 29 Dec 2004 15:37:15 -0000 Moon Calendar A Guideline The Panchanga is the Indian calendar and it has 5 (pancha) limbs or factors (anga), which are the vara (day of the week), the tithi (Moon day), the karana (half a tithi), the naksatra (the Moon in one of the 27 constellations) and the Nitya Yoga (one of 27 angular combinations between the Sun and the Moon. In this Moon calendar we do not see the karanas or the Nitya Yogas as a matter of practicality. Here we see: 1. The Varas or days of the week. The official day of the week starts at sunrise when the middle part of the sun disc is visible and in general all days are good to start new activities except Tuesdays and Saturdays because those days are ruled by the malefic planets Mars and Saturn. 2. The tithis or Moon days. There are 15 moon days from New Moon to Full Moon and there are 15 moon days from Full Moon to New Moon. In this calendar the times when every one of those moon days start are given. The names of the 15 moon days of the dark part (Krishna paksha) are given together with whether they are good (G) or bad (X). For example when the first day of the moon starts there is the preceding moon day (the Full or New Moon), which is good for spiritual activities. Therefore you will see for pratipat that it is G/G (good the preceding moon day and good the pratipat day). Some moon days you will read G/X to indicate that the previous moon day is good but the one starting is bad. 1. Pratipat Krishna paksha G/G 2. Dvitiya Krishna paksha G/G 3. Tritiya Krishna paksha G/G 4. Chaturthi Krishna paksha G/X 5. Panchami Krishna paksha X/G 6. Shashti Krishnapaksha G/X 7. Saptami Krishna paksha X/G 8. Ashtami Krishna paksha G/X 9. Navami Krishna paksha X/X 10. Dashami Krishna paksha X/G 11. Ekadashi Krishna paksha G/G 12. Dvadashi Krishna paksha G/X 13. Trayodashi Krishna paksha X/G 14. Chaturdashi Krishna paksha G/X 15. Amavasya (New Moon) Krishna paksha X/G or 15. Purnima (Full Moon) Shukla paksha X/G And the names of the 15 Moon days of the bright moon are the same but Shukla paksha (bright half) is added instead. 3. Naksatras. There are 27 naksatras or constellations, which the moon visits in a month. This calendar gives the starting time when the Moon enters into each naksatra. For example: 10:09 PM Moon Nak. 12 TB= _____ In general, the name of the naksatra is given although sometimes it is omitted for unknown reasons, because the computer programme does not give it but at least the number of the naksatra will appear. Besides the naksatra you will see TB= _____, which means the tara bala for you to write on if you wish to take full advantage of this calendar. There are 9 tara balas. Tara Bala 1 is your own star or constellation and during it the mind has the tendency to be 'overloaded' with many plans or thoughts and therefore caution and alertness during these days are advised. It has mixed vibrations of positive and negative results. Tara Bala 2 is positive to start new activities because the outcome in general brings profit. Tara Bala 3 is the most negative and caution should be put in all activities. Tara Bala 4 is positive. Tara Bala 5 is negative but the mildest. Tara Bala 6 is positive. Tara Bala 7 is negative but not as bad as tara bala 3 Tara Bala 8 is positive (friendly) Tara Bala 9 is very positive (very friendly) After you finish counting your tara balas you repeat the series for a second and for a third time until you finish counting the 27 constellations having started from your Moon constellation. 4. The Moon in signs. This calendar tell you when the Moon is starting a sign or in which sign it is that day because the Moon takes in average two and a half day to cross each sign. For example, you will see: Moon in Leo CB= _____ The CB= _____ is the Chandra Bala or the strength of the Moon. There are 12 Chandra balas, which correspond to your moon houses. Chandra Bala 1 is when the Moon is in your natal Moon sign and it is positive. Chandra Bala 2 is when the Moon is in the second sign from your Moon and it is positive. Chandra Bala 3 is when the Moon is in the third sign from your Moon sign and it is positive. Chandra Bala 4 is when the Moon is in the fourth sign from your Moon sign and it is positive. Chandra Bala 5 is when the Moon is in the fifth sign from your Moon and it is positive. Chandra Bala 6 is when the Moon is in the sixth sign from your Moon and it is negative. Chandra Bala 7 is when the Moon is in the seventh sign from your Moon and it is positive. Chandra Bala 8 is when the Moon is in the eighth sign from your Moon and it is negative. Chandra Bala 9 is when the Moon is in the ninth sign from your Moon and it is positive. Chandra Bala 10 is when the Moon is in the tenth sign from your Moon and it is positive. Chandra Bala 11 is when the Moon is in the eleventh sign from your Moon and it is positive. Chandra Bala 12 is when the Moon is in the twelfth sign from your Moon and it is negative. This is just a general guideline you can get further information from other books. To build up this calendar I used the Goravani Jyotish programme to get the data for the Moon in naksatras and in signs and the Tithi Timer to get the data for the tithis or the Moon days. You can get the free version of the tithi timer on the following site: http://jyotish.net/tithi_timer_download.htm 29-12-2004 Natabara das
Guest guest
Dear Natabara Please will you explain why or quote your authority for stating that Tarabala 3 is the worst. This contradicts the Sanskrit names, Tarabala 7 being Naidhana or death Regards Gordon sclifet [sclifet] 03 March 2005 12:04 valist FW: Guide to Moon Cal De: "Natabara Das" <natabara.> Objet: Guide to Moon Cal Wed, 29 Dec 2004 15:37:15 -0000 Moon Calendar A Guideline The Panchanga is the Indian calendar and it has 5 (pancha) limbs or factors (anga), which are the vara (day of the week), the tithi (Moon day), the karana (half a tithi), the naksatra (the Moon in one of the 27 constellations) and the Nitya Yoga (one of 27 angular combinations between the Sun and the Moon.
