A good rule of thumb--if it really works, it probably won't be around very long. One of the best formulas for cancer prevention and cure is 'Essiac'--a combination of herbs that everyone can cook up in their kitchen. Better get those ingredients though, the FDA is hot on the trail of restricting herbal use: http://www.rmhiherbal.org/a/f.ahr6.fda.html I can foresee the day wihen growing your own simple herbs in the garden will be punishable by fine or jail. It's highest concentrations are found in apricot pits, for example. Since it occurs naturally, it can't be patented by anyone wanting to manufacture and sell it for profit -- everyone can make their own relatively cheaply. This is the paradox of free market capitalism that you don't hear from business boosters. And that's why vitamins are not taken seriously as treatments for serious diseases. There's just not enough profit in it to sustain these pharmaceutical behemoths and their millions of shareholders. Actually, Ralph Moss resigned his research post from the prestigious Sloan-Kettering Memorial Centre in NY back in the 80s over the suppression of laetrile research. It was from that experience that he launched into his own career as a reserarcher for alternative cancer therapies. Guest guest
Juliana, I hope I wasn't too curt earlier. Sorry to hear about your friend but laetrile was never held out as some panacea. Like all cancer therapies, alternative or mainstream, it only will be effective in an aggragate sense. The laetrile research in the 70s and 80s that Moss was witness to only showed that laetrile significantly extended the life expectancy by 12-24 months in cancer patients or lab mice (that's rought estimate from memory so don't quote me on that). That is hugely significant in the cancer world, but it's certainly no miracle cure. Vitamin c has the same sort of efficacy. By itself, it will only rarely "cure" cancer. But in tandem with other treatments, it may significantly increase longevity. Guest guest
>From the little I've read about Laetrile, the interesting point for me is to have the Vitamin B-17 in your diet throughout your life to PREVENT cancer. Since I don't have any loved ones with cancer, this is what caught my attention and made me want to add ground-up apricot pits to my diet.
