Dear Vidyadhar

 

Actually the race is not over yet. But if as it seems will happen, that

Bush wins, why single out Professor Choudhury for praise for his 'uncanny

astrological acumen'?

 

After all dozens of astrologers have publicly predicted a win for Bush and

dozens for Kerry. it was only a two horse race anyway. Prof. Choudhury's

prediction should be put into a sensible context.

Gordon and Vaidun,

 

I agree with your observation here Gordon -- calling election outcomes in a

2 party race isn't much to get boastful about. And given that astrologers

were split on their predictions (and more actually called for Kerry),

flipping a coin would be more accurate than using astrology!

Hi Chris...

I wasn't split on my prediction. I used a minimum of "rules" & accurately

determined the outcome. Not only were Bush & Kerry on the ticket there were

also seven other "write-in" candidates as well. Even if there had been one

hundred candidates my answer wouldn't have changed. I personally did not vote

for Bush...so I basically voted "knowing" that my vote wouldn't really matter as

to the outcome of the election...but I did exercise my right to vote...maybe

hoping in some way that I would be "wrong"...but in my heart...not really

believing that I would be :-)

 

As for flipping a coin, I believe that the planets are more than 50% accurate.

Much to my occasional sadness...I've watched it happen... The errors come from

astrologers, astronomers, mathematicians, & the accuracy of their tools...not

the planets.

Just my opinion :-)

[ck] Well, percentages are hard to substantiate in any event. And not all

astrologers are equally adept so the idea that astrology is 50% or 80%

correct in effect really says "astrology CAN be 50% or 80% correct" with a

good astrologer at the wheel. Even there, if you follow any blind tests,

you'll know that astrologers are usually not much better than chance would

predict. With multiple choice tests such as Dymock Brose's, astrologers get

it right about 25% of the time. That's chance and little better. What's

especially discouraging is that for events like elections where the time

frame is known ahead of time and only two outcomes are possible, astrologers

haven't shown any special capabilities, at least in my short time of

observation.
