Guest guest
Dear Friends/VA group: I have this about what I like to think of as the 'best' of both the Western & Eastern Astrology's.... and recently I started a reflection upon exactly what those qualities might be. I thought you might like to hear about what I consider the best of West and East, and would love to hear what you consider the best of whatever system you've been studying or aware of. I'll print up a few lists of people's correspondences, if there's enough interest.. Sincerely, Mark Kincaid the Best! of both the West....and the East... The West..... I started out studying Western Astrology in the early 70's,....and I have to say there were several experiences that stood out then, and still strike me today, as being some of the Western system's most positive qualities... #1 I believe it's a signifanct thing that Western Astrology has kept the ideas and principles of 'Astrology' alive in the hearts and minds of millions of people through out the West for these many centuries... This itself, is a great accomplishment. Witness the recent book: "Men are from Mars & Women from Venus." This book today has totally raised people's awareness about the benefits of knowing even a small smidgen of Astrological knowledge. And that book alone sold over 15 million hard back copies! Just the other day, I heard one of the TV sitcom characters talking: "Well, of course, he's like that.... you know, Men are from Mars!...."..... #2 To me, the most important quality that Western Astrology has cultured and believes in is the quality of growth, opportunity, change and even transformation. Perhaps because this is a decidedly more Western concept, but still, it's a very significant part of the total Western Astrological Knowledge. And this belief, or idea, has I believe, had a very strong influence on many of us, whe are either from the West, learning Jyotish, or even Easterners, who have grown up in the Eastern Astrological system. #3 The last point I'll mention tonight, is the Western system's belief that the Sun is such an important part of Astrology and even one's Astrological chart. This is in stark contrast to the Eastern system that' always talking about how important the Rising or Moon signs are. I think this is very correct, because when you think about it, the Sun still is the center. In fact, everything, including the Moon, and Planets, all, still revolve around the Sun.... And the Sun, representing as it does, our inner most selves, 'I', egos and self-worths, is still the most powerful and important parts of our Charts... Though it's perhaps, very abstract for many, and that's why the Eastern notion of the Moon is also important. The East.... #1 And that leads me to what I consider the best of the Eastern system.... The first one is this belief in the Moon as being a very important Astrological quality. And though I understand it historically, or in terms of their cultural influences, still the Moon's position and placement in our charts, does still quite importantly reflect the very important aspect of our Conscious Minds and primary focus in this life. #2 Jyotish or Eastern Astrology has this natural connection to the entire holistic system of Philosophy, Knowledge and Wisdom of what's called Vedic Science. I believe this is very important, because there are many other Vedic Disciplines, including Ayurved and Yoga, which, when used, in tandum with Jyotish, go to create a very powerful, and complete system of Prescription and healing. #3 Another aspect of Jyotish that I believe is one of it's greatest strengths, is the method of calculating the Astrological configurations, in terms of the actual, or literal movements of the Stars. This 'literal' ability to calculate, which is so very close to even the Astronomy of Western Science, will also allow us to more easily encourage a true, modern Science of Astrology. #4 The last thing that occurs to me tonight, is the Principle of Predictions. Jyotish has this very extensive, precise, system of guessing what the future will be like for all, based on the eact time of birth. This is the Dasa or Time Periods aspect, which is able to predict fairly accurately what the quality, positive or negative of our future periods will be like, based on the positive or negative strengths of the Planets in one's chart... So, there it is. My take on what I consider to be the Best of both the Western and Eastern systems... in brief.... Another reason why I think this is so important is because these qualities, I think I've found all do exist in the natural Astrology of Nature, which is truely 'out there' and exists, truely, outside or beyond the details of both the Western & Eastern systems... Hence, my take on the importance of developing a true, modern, system of 'Nature's Astrology'.... that may very well, include the best of both the West & East! Sincerely, Mark Kincaid ps... please contribute your experiences and thoughts.... oh yes, for those of you who would like to follow the discussion more closely, you can check out my old : Nature's Astrology; best of West & East, ...at: /
