Guest guest
Hi Mark, How are you today?? I can't answer your question...because I have never had a natal reading of my chart before. My time of birth of unknown. My "original" birth certificate is "sealed" & I can not have access to it with a court order. Even then, the original may not list a time of birth on it at all. I have been lied so for long about so many things..that even if were listed there...I don't know that I would believe that it too hasn't been "faked". I probably wouldn't enjoy seeing the truth of my life staring me in the face, but I would then at least, be able to understand all of why's of my life, which currently don't make much sense to me at all. No chart truly seems to decribe all of my life circumstances... although I am hopeful that one does exist. I did like this which you wrote: "until a seeker of truth gets tired of doing it their own way, knowledge never comes." & I find that to be very interesting. But then again, that same seeker may not have a teacher in the flesh and may be left with no choice but try to acquire the knowledge in his or her own way, hopefully with the help from a higher power...which is all that that person may have at the time. I would hope that person would not be denied knowledge...just because it was the only way that he knew to do it at time. I will give it more thought... As far as how I look at the birth chart of a person with a known time of birth, I look at the conditions of the chart ruler first & then the dispositor of the chart ruler. Then I look at the rulers of the 7th and the 2nd house and the conditions of those planets & their dispositors. Usually then I look at the Moon, then the Sun, the ruler of the 9th, the ruler of the 5th and then the other houses that are left come after that. Every chart is different, so I don't always follow the same pattern. If one of the planets definitely stands out to me in some particular way, then I will look at it first. I will usually look at the Navamasha chart next & then at the Nakshatras of all of the planets to see if they strenghten or weaken the meaning of the natal chart. That is that way that seems to generally work the best for me. I began, what seemed to me to be "all of a sudden", to study the Sun last month on the day that the Sun moved into Leo. I didn't plan it that way...it just happened !! I arrived at the conclusion that the Sun represents "possibilities" available to us. Our choice of the Sun's sign is how & what we want to express in this lifetime. My Sun is in Scorpio. It seems to me that I chose this sign because of it's power of regeneration. I have had five children & so I guess with me, that I chose to fulfill my destiny by giving birth to five souls that were waiting for their chance to fulfill their karmic destinies. That choice has made me very happy & I have never once regretted my decision. My children have always been the love of my life. I have lived through many things that I doubt most people would have the ability to live through & I am able to do that through the power of the my sun sign. I would think the same simplicity also applies to the other planets as well. Just some of my thoughts. I have one of my own "dying to ask" questions. But it isn't someone's every day question so I guess I will "wait"...in my Scorpio way...although I really don't think it will come up any time soon...if ever ) Robin... This Astrological 'reading' is at the very heart of Astrology, and yet, I find most people don't quite appreciate how profound, and powerful this experience is. Enjoy! Does anyone have a question they've been dying to ask about this wonderful study we all love so much? We welcome all levels of understanding. (I usually learn the most from beginner's questions, so fire away!)" Here's one that I've been kicking around for years now. :-) How do you give a natal reading? (full initial question, below) Dear John: I, too, feel it's in the Astrology 'reading', that a lot of the beauty and wisdom comes alive. It used to be, in my own Astrology practice, that I would just go spinning through the 'chart'. Probably I'd start about the Sun, Moon & Rising Signs.... and then, I'd go into the different charts. Then, at some point I came across this expression: "until a seeker of truth gets tired of doing it their own way, knowledge never comes...." And, this influenced me very greatly. I had been researching the Sun, and came across this expression in the context of 'self-realization'. >From that moment on, I started to rely more strongly on what is it that the person is coming to their reading? Normally, I at least get 3 questions from people. Usually, it's Q1: What is my life purpose or best career? #2: How can I make more money, and #3: How do I become better at 'relationships'. Now, I find myself, answering people's initial questions,.... and if 'I', as the 'astrologer' can guess what the person is like,... then I find the job or role of doing the chart, reading, is fulfilled. I also believe it's the goal of every Astrologer, to give people a 'taste of their Astrology'. Perhaps, the #1, quality of good Astrology, that I've learned, is..... that there is a powerful, symbolic, .... even precise, '1to1' relationship between people's lives, and the details of their Astrology chart.... I believe it's 'our' goal, to give them a taste of a flash of that! Because it's in that ability, that Astrology maintains it's power. Another thing I've grown to enjoy is that I now realize that people very spontaneously, speak out, in their very words, the essence of their charts.... I used to spend a lot of time, guessing for them, what they'd be like if they had, Sun in Gemini, and Sun in the 3rd House, for example... But, then at some point, someone expressed to me what it felt like for them, having that Sun in Gemini,..... and when I listened to their words, I thought... 'oh, my god, they're expressing so spontaneously, the essence of their chart.....' >From that moment, I switched, and started doing people's natal charts, so I could get them to express themselves... Now, when I describe what it's like having Sun in Gemini, for example, I'll describe how 'Geminis' like doing many things at once.... and then I'll say, have you noticed that, that you're the kind of person that really enjoys doing several things at a time, together? And they nodd their heads, as they always used to do,.... but now, I say: "Now, I find that people themselves express the subtleties of Astrology, very well. How do you experience this....?" And, they'll then go into an expression, with such preciseness, maybe even describing, how they like to do several things at once, in the area of life, that their 3rd House really captures..... Now, I realize my responsibility is to show them, that, 'yes' their charts really do fit them, but then, encourage them to talk and express themselves, just because they'll begin to notice that they, too, can come to understand their Astrological selves... The other thing that I do, which has evolved greatly, is today I emphasize the 'transformative' power of their Astrology. In other words, Astrology makes a great distinction between 'strong' or 'benefic' planets and weak, or 'malefic' ones. Generally, that was the final conclusion that most people bring out, that these are your strengths and these your weaknesses. Therefore, during periods where you'll be experiencing the essence of your 'benefic' Moon, for example, you can expect, great things to happen. Or, if during periods of planets that are inherently, 'weak', these will be periods of challenge, struggles and problems. Now, I realize, that not only does Astrology have a great power to be able to help us see our strengths and weaknesses,.... the real truth, is that we were born to enjoy our strengths, but,... we were also born, to improve those areas of our lives, where our weak planets are. For example, if someone has Mars in their 7th house, and they have lots of challenges in partnerships and marriage, it's not enough just to say, chill out! Now, I realize, that their Mars represents the part of them that they're meant to change and even improve! This is Astrology's greatest gift, that it makes 'value judgements', or 'discriminations'... These planets are very positive, or balanced, strong, while these other Astrological configurations are weak, and negative... But, these 'negatives' are not only the indications of our problems, struggles and sufferings, they're also the areas of our great opportunities, and even solutions! For the person with Mars in their first house, they have the habit, both Psychologically, and even in their bones, or Physiologically, to be too aggressive, and dominating, and pushy, etc. But, they don't feel that way. They tend to 'blame' others for the problems, hence, the classic Mars confusion. But, Astrology comes out and says, this planet is 'your' weakness, and is something that you're meant to change, and grow out of... And when I've learned how to begin turning the conversations in these directions, and offer people new, slightly uplifting possibilities,... well, ..... depending upon their receptivity,... but those who have grown tired, of suffering in the ways that they have.... they can begin to see things in a slightly new light..... Thank you for the wonderful question. I look forward to hearing from others about their wonderful experiences as well. Sincerely, Mark Kincaid Professional Astrologer. I've been modifying and refining my approach since I first started giving astrology readings. Sometimes I feel like I have a good working structure or an approach that is appropriate for the situation, and other times I feel like a ship out on the water (so to speak). Its an especially interesting situation for me when I'm working with a person who is new to astrology and interested in the reading, but contributes very little to the exchange in terms of direction, questions, or feedback. I'd expect just about everyone on this list who gives natal readings to have their own approach or system, or at least be in the process of developing one as I am. So, I'm interested in hearing from those who would like to share their approach along with the things that seem to work best for them as well as lessoned learned and pitfalls. Thanks!
