Dear Members/Friends:

Here's a wonderful simple question that I think is very worthy of reflecting

upon, and would love hearing other people's experiences, regarding,.... how

they're enjoyed, their natal readings, in the past.

This Astrological 'reading' is at the very heart of Astrology, and yet, I

find most people don't quite appreciate how profound, and powerful this

experience is.

Enjoy!

Here's one that I've been kicking around for years now. :-)

How do you give a natal reading? (full initial question, below)

Dear John:

I, too, feel it's in the Astrology 'reading', that a lot of the beauty and

wisdom

comes alive.

It used to be, in my own Astrology practice, that I would just go spinning

through the 'chart'.

Probably I'd start about the Sun, Moon & Rising Signs....

and then, I'd go into the different charts.

Then, at some point I came across this expression: "until a seeker of truth

gets tired of doing it their own way, knowledge never comes...."

And, this influenced me very greatly.

I had been researching the Sun, and came across this expression in the

context of 'self-realization'.

>From that moment on, I started to rely more strongly on what is it that the

person is coming to their reading?

Normally, I at least get 3 questions from people.

Usually, it's Q1: What is my life purpose or best career?

#2: How can I make more money, and #3: How do I become better at

'relationships'.

Now, I find myself, answering people's initial questions,.... and if 'I', as

the 'astrologer' can guess what the person is like,... then I find the job

or role of doing the chart, reading, is fulfilled.

I also believe it's the goal of every Astrologer, to give people a 'taste of

their Astrology'.

Perhaps, the #1, quality of good Astrology, that I've learned, is.....

that there is a powerful, symbolic, .... even precise, '1to1' relationship

between people's lives, and the details of their Astrology chart....

I believe it's 'our' goal, to give them a taste of a flash of that!

Because it's in that ability, that Astrology maintains it's power.

Another thing I've grown to enjoy is that I now realize that people very

spontaneously, speak out, in their very words, the essence of their

charts....

I used to spend a lot of time, guessing for them, what they'd be like if

they had, Sun in Gemini, and Sun in the 3rd House, for example...

But, then at some point, someone expressed to me what it felt like for them,

having that Sun in Gemini,..... and when I listened to their words, I

thought...

'oh, my god, they're expressing so spontaneously, the essence of their

chart.....'

>From that moment, I switched, and started doing people's natal charts, so I

could get them to express themselves...

Now, when I describe what it's like having Sun in Gemini, for example, I'll

describe how 'Geminis' like doing many things at once.... and then I'll say,

have you noticed that, that you're the kind of person that really enjoys

doing several things at a time, together?

And they nodd their heads, as they always used to do,....

but now, I say: "Now, I find that people themselves express the subtleties

of Astrology, very well. How do you experience this....?"

And, they'll then go into an expression, with such preciseness, maybe even

describing, how they like to do several things at once, in the area of life,

that their 3rd House really captures.....

Now, I realize my responsibility is to show them, that, 'yes' their charts

really do fit them, but then, encourage them to talk and express themselves,

just because they'll begin to notice that they, too, can come to understand

their Astrological selves...

The other thing that I do, which has evolved greatly, is today I emphasize

the 'transformative' power of their Astrology.

In other words, Astrology makes a great distinction between 'strong' or

'benefic' planets and weak, or 'malefic' ones.

Generally, that was the final conclusion that most people bring out, that

these are your strengths and these your weaknesses.

Therefore, during periods where you'll be experiencing the essence of your

'benefic' Moon, for example, you can expect, great things to happen.

Or, if during periods of planets that are inherently, 'weak', these will be

periods of challenge, struggles and problems.

Now, I realize, that not only does Astrology have a great power to be able

to help us see our strengths and weaknesses,....

the real truth, is that we were born to enjoy our strengths, but,...

we were also born, to improve those areas of our lives, where our weak

planets are.

For example, if someone has Mars in their 7th house, and they have lots of

challenges in partnerships and marriage, it's not enough just to say, chill

out!

Now, I realize, that their Mars represents the part of them that they're

meant to change and even improve!

This is Astrology's greatest gift, that it makes 'value judgements', or

'discriminations'...

These planets are very positive, or balanced, strong, while these other

Astrological configurations are weak, and negative...

But, these 'negatives' are not only the indications of our problems,

struggles and sufferings, they're also the areas of our great opportunities,

and even solutions!

For the person with Mars in their first house, they have the habit, both

Psychologically, and even in their bones, or Physiologically, to be too

aggressive, and dominating, and pushy, etc.

But, they don't feel that way. They tend to 'blame' others for the

problems, hence, the classic Mars confusion.

But, Astrology comes out and says, this planet is 'your' weakness, and is

something that you're meant to change, and grow out of...

And when I've learned how to begin turning the conversations in these

directions, and offer people new, slightly uplifting possibilities,...

well, ..... depending upon their receptivity,... but those who have grown

tired, of suffering in the ways that they have....

they can begin to see things in a slightly new light.....

Thank you for the wonderful question.

I look forward to hearing from others about their wonderful experiences as

well.

Sincerely,

Here's one that I've been kicking around for years now. :-)

How do you give a natal reading? I've been modifying and refining my

approach since I first started giving astrology readings. Sometimes I

feel like I have a good working structure or an approach that is

appropriate for the situation, and other times I feel like a ship out on

the water (so to speak).

Its an especially interesting situation for me when I'm working with a

person who is new to astrology and interested in the reading, but

contributes very little to the exchange in terms of direction,

questions, or feedback.

I'd expect just about everyone on this list who gives natal readings to

have their own approach or system, or at least be in the process of

developing one as I am. So, I'm interested in hearing from those who

would like to share their approach along with the things that seem to

work best for them as well as lessoned learned and pitfalls.

Thanks!

John
