Dear Debra

You might post the exact details of the question.

Different empemerides use different calculations for the nodes, so it is

commom for those to be a little different.

If you are looking at the Betz ephem and not taking into account the

location, that might make a big difference.

If you are looking at the ephem calculated for 12 at GMT, the Moon's

location may be very different if you are entering a calculation for its

location at 12 PST

[GJ] Lahiri Sidereal Time

I would like to post this question to the group. Can someone please

explain to me how a Lahiri sidereal time calculation can be

different from another Lahiri calculation? Example: Goravani

software vs. Betz Ephemeris. Thanks, Debra

Hi Cynthia,

Goravani uses ACS Worldwide Atlas and Betz uses Universal Time

Sidereal midnight. Betz is based on Lahiri and I use Goravani

Lahiri. I am not sure what time Goravani uses for Lahiri

calculation, but the two are different. Enough to change house and

signs. Not only by moon but by lagna. If Goravani uses a different

time other than midnight then I am assuming from your response that

this is the difference in calculation. If this is so, can you tell

me then in your experience or those of the group what sidereal time

(midnight, 6am, or noon etc.) is more accurate in calculating a

chart. Also, I am aware of the different authors of sidereal

calculations (krishnamuriti, fagen, Lahiri etc.) but am confused

with a different calculation using Lahiri. Meaning, I thought

lahiri was lahiri period. But with your response that I can use the

same sidereal author (Lihiri) but get different calculations based

on the time that I use,

midnight vs noon per say, Can make the difference. Did I get that

right? I am driving my Virgo nuts trying to figure this out. Debra

Dear Debra

give me the data, I can calculate it on Solar Fire as well as Parashara's

light. You can see from the lagna and the Moon what is happening. I'll bet

what I come up with will bring it to light.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks so much for you interest and effort. I am a little

embarressed to be posting this question since I am not using an

Atlas with the ephemeris for location and that propbably is the

problem. However, I would appreciate your further investigation

into the matter. So, here it goes. Using the following birthdate

for an example: 7/3/1985 - 8:16am (DST) - Highland Park, Illinois -

I have the following information. Goravani software with ACS

Worldwide Atlas: Lahiri ayanamsha 23' 39' 4"; Time zone 6:00; Lat.

42 N 10; Long. 87 W 48. Lagna 21' 50' 60" Cancer; Moon 0' 45' 23"

Capicorn; Sun 17' 53' 32" Gemini; Betz Ephemeris - Universal Time

(GMT) sidereal Midnight,True Node, Apparent Longitude and Laditude:

Lahiri ayanamsha 18' 43' 51"; Sun 17' 21' 54" Gemini; Moon Midnight

23' 51' 5" Sagitarius; Moon Noon 0' 49' 9" Capicorn; Moon North Node

23' 15' 1" Aries; Mercury 11' 7' 5" Cancer; Venus 2' 47' 9" Taurus;

Mars 21' 55' 3" Gemini; Jupiter 22' 5' 3" Capicorn; Saturn 28' 13'

9" Libra; Uranus 21' 18' 6" Scorpio; Neptune 8' 20' 5" Sagitarius;

Pluto 8' 17' 8" Libra; Moon's Lat S 4' 26' 8"

I hope this helps. Thanks Debra

I suspect that the problem you see is the correction for location.

I have run the chart using Par. Light.

for an example: 7/3/1985 - 8:16am (DST) - Highland Park, Illinois -

I have the following information. Goravani software with ACS

Worldwide Atlas: Lahiri ayanamsha 23' 39' 4"; same

Time zone 6:00; Lat.

42 N 10; Long. 87 W 48. ( same) Lagna 21' 50' 60" Cancer; ( 21:50:50

difference is insignificant) Moon 0' 45' 23" (1:33:44 Cap a difference of

almost 1 degree!)

Capicorn; Sun 17' 53' 32" (same) Gemini; Betz Ephemeris - Universal Time

(GMT) sidereal Midnight,True Node, Apparent Longitude and Laditude:

Lahiri ayanamsha 18' 43' 51"; Sun 17' 21' 54" Gemini; Moon Midnight

23' 51' 5" Sagitarius; Moon Noon 0' 49' 9" Capicorn; Moon North Node

23' 15' 1" ( 23:08 insig. probably due to math. calculation for apparant

motion) Aries; Mercury 11' 7' 5" Cancer; ( 11:54 Merc. moves about 1

degree per day so that accounts for the difference Venus 2' 47' 9" Taurus;

Mars 21' 55' 3" Gemini ( 22:17) ; Jupiter 22' 5' 3"(Jup is retro and I got

22:02 makes sence for the difference) Capicorn; Saturn 28' 13'

9" Libra; Uranus 21' 18' 6" Scorpio; Neptune 8' 20' 5" Sagitarius;

Pluto 8' 17' 8" Libra; Moon's Lat S 4' 26' 8"

I hope this helps. Thanks Debra
