Dear Ajay:

You ask some very good questions here.

Think of the birthchart, as a map or measure of where you're starting with

in this life.

According to the chart, one will have these strengths and these weaknesses.

But, and here's the important part. Our lives are all about growing and

transforming

outselves...in exactly the way that our chart indicates.

Not enough people know this and the entire field of Vedic knowledge has

forgotten

quite a bit of this in the most recent past.

Sure, there are traditional recomendations, like gems and doing prayers, and

feeding the birds on a particular day, in the hope of strengthening those

planets...

But, unfortunately, the power of change has not been very strong.

When I first started studying Jyotish over 16 years, now. You'd pick up a

book on Jyotish

and you'd find 195 pages on the jyotish and tacked on at the end almost as

an after thought,

would be 5 pages on remedial measures.

I come out of a Transcendental Meditation background where change,

improvement and Self

transformation is the general idea.

I've been meditating, myself for over 30 years and now, as I'm into Jyotish,

even writing my own book on it,...my ratio is more like 50 to 50.

50% of my book is about the fact that our charts fit us....

and 50% is about what we can do to change those trends, found in our charts!

>

> The Mahadasas are periods which show us the lifespan / lifetime of the

> person and are able to rate for us the capacity of the performance, based

> on his limitations of kundali,

Remember, the Chart doesn't show us our limits, it shows us our beginnings.

There is great hopefulness in the Ved...that anyone can become enlightened!

Kind of like the view in America that any young person born in the US....can

rise up to be

President!

This view has done the Americans well, because they 'believe' that anything

is possible.

Therefore millions of individuals are furiously involved in accomplishing

and growing and

amassing wealth!....

Now, we need to take that same spirit and apply it to enlightenment and the

growth

of Consciousness.

You can change your chart....because the chart is just a snap shot... of

your beginnings.

Not of your fates!

However, if we don't make any change and/or improvement in ourselves...

then,

the more rigid, deterministic predictions...are more likely to come true.

during the periods of his life. Often, this

> may be percieved as generally good or bad based on the Mahadasa and its

> factoring with the original capacity of a kundali.

>

> Gochara or transits represent the extra boosts or retardations that will

> affect the occurences/output of a being based on his limitations of kundali

> and his mahadasas.

Transits are simply the collective effects of collective actions coming back

to us

as specific times.

I like the Moon, and transits as you mention, below, because in my chart my

Moon

rules my 10th house....and at some point it occured to me, that

understanding the Moon

better...might be helpful for me in career.

Only later did I realize that studying the Transits also taught one a lot

about Jyotish.

All the Transits, follow all the various and amazing rules in Jyotish and

the transits therefore

confirm or validate their existence.

But, because my Moon was with my Saturn, too....like in your chart...

when I was born...I was born with a lot of sadness and loneliness and

emotional grief

and losses (both in 12th house)....

that situation very much....led me to find any possible...solution that

could improve that!

Then, when I was in college I discovered....meditation...

then, later Ayurved.... then yoga (asanas) which are soooo good for Saturn

grief in the body..

then the sidhis...

and now, finally Jyotish... and I could write a whole book on all the

benefits that I've received

from all these different Jyotish knowledges...

hey, I am writing a book,...hehhehehe

>

> Now my question is this, if one were to prescribe a gemstone for a person,

> would one do so on the basis of affecting temporary performance of the

> mahadasa or view the basic kundali (as is done) and therefore affect the

> entire lifespan?

If we're now, understanding that the birth chart....is not a picture of our

fate, only...

but a picture...a snapshot...of our beginnings.... My teacher, said to

'us'....

"not to take the birth chart like it's written in stone, it's just the state

of physiology

at the time of birth."

I watched as the more traditional Jyotishees...mouths dropped when I heard

this...

but it made sense to me with my extensive meditation..... and improvement

background.

But, I've found Jyotish very helpful because it recognizes the particular

patterns and thought

forms that we might change to improve ourselves.

Take your Saturn, for example...

It's in Aries...which means something.

Genreally, Saturn in Aries people go too fast.

And this makes sense because Saturn is silence...and is in fact exalted in

the opposite sign

of Libra, or balance.

But, in Aries it represents someone with not enough Saturn Wisdom!

Okay,...that's where you've started....so do anything .... do everything you

can do to strengthen

and improve the literal functioning of your Saturn.

Rest, rejuvenation, alternating periods of activity and rest, cycles of up

and down...the Moon cylce ...all these things... the rhythms and cycles of

Nature...teach us how Nature functions...

In Ayurved for example, there is the knowledge of how to be more in-tune

with the Daily Cycle..

Going to bed before 10pm...for example, eating at the right time, activity

at the right time...

Then, there's the Moon cycle.... which explains the basic cycle of rest and

activity of our entire Month's....

I've focused a lot in terms of the Moon's cycle...because my Moon was very

small at birth and in the 12th...house and with Saturn....

So... now after all these years and especially due to my efforts....I can

honestly say...my Moon

is bigger! I feel stronger...

Things don't bother me as much. I'm hardly ever sad or depressed or

lonely... because of all the good work I've done...

And by 'good', I mean activities...that literally improved the depth of

silence within me...

Adhering and striving to be more in-tune with all these cylces, I've found

literally strengthens one's Saturn inside...and as a result...Saturn stops

being so malefic!

>

> is this possible? and if so, by wearing a gemstone, do we magnify the

> effect of its retrogressive capacity or do we help it overcome the

> "retrogressive effect" and exert a more benefic aspect / affectation?

If our thinking is now, one of improvement....then any situation is possible

to improve.

My particular Jyotish Readings...have to do with literally showing how any

and all malefic

situations in our charts...are literally....

opportunities...for improvement...and not just indicative of our fates...

I'll leave you with one more example.

I had a man come to me a number of years now, and he had Mars in his 7th

house.

He was ranting and raving as to how the fault was his 'wives'!.... my first

clue! hehehe

And when I looked at his chart, he indeed, had that most difficult of kuja

doshas, Mars in

the 7th....

So, I said, to him, I'm sorry to have to say this...but it is due to your

Mars, there,...that

you're having these challenges... Though, surely, your 'wives' must have

something to do

with also deserving these problems, still...there is some important Wisdom,

there for you

in your chart...

I re-directed his attention to the fact that he had a great Venus in his

10th house, was in it's own sign and at work he had no problems with

inter-personal relationships...

As a result..I said..."look you've got this great Venus, but you're not

using it at home. So, I'm

going to suggest that you be more sweet, appreciative and understanding in a

way that you

know how to do, at work....but now, with your wife...."

Well, he was not convinced, but at least he was willing to try. And in

about 3 weeks he called me back and said.."Mark, you won't believe it my

wife, now, thinks I can't do anything wrong!"

This was one of my first in-roads in not only deciphering...what somone's

malefics were but also

prescribing some specific remedy that might help him.

That experience..really helped me understand that our Charts are not fixed,

in fact we're supposed to be improving ourselves....

Only we're not taught how...

Dear Ajay: Jyotishees are not supposed to 'do' it all for you. When you've

had your

chart, 'read', did any of the descriptions fit you?

Those feelings of resonance, of 'aha'...or even 'mmmm' or 'eureka'....

These are all indications of when a person's fitting one....

But, with Jupiter in the same house as your Mercury and Sun, you should be

able to

learn to study your own chart.

And my major Vedic teacher also told us, "you all will be your own best

jyotishee".

And I've definitely found that to be true.

Because we're inside of ourselves, and we therefore are in the best

situation, after awhile,

to really know our charts!

So, don't wait for others to nail you on the head. You study your

chart...and look for those

'ahas'....which will tell you of it's validity.

Hint: When you study the different descriptions of your chart, ie. what

it's supposed to be like

for someone having the Sun in Virgo, and Mercury and Jupiter in virgo....do

these descriptions, fit you!?...

>

This is definitely....a sign of Saturn being in Aries... and especially

because your Moon

is so close to that vata deranged Saturn quality....

So......get control of your Saturn....

and your 'lunar', 'lunacy and sanity'...will settle down!

> Anyone care to comment on the gemstone scenario? and any other advice

Go for your chart first.... because that knowledge is the most important...

What is your rising Sign....

Then, I'll help you understand...what's more ideal for your career.

But, you're like lots of people....

It doesn't matter what you do, but until you get control of that difficult

functioning

Saturn.... many things will be very crazy...for you....
