Hello,

 

As we all know, there are several state-of-the-art

charting astrological softwares available today. BUT,

when these programs are assessed in the light of their

"interpretive and predictive" capabilities, they do

not go beyond printing several pages of text in lucid

language, lifted by the program on some very broad

astrological conditions (like in which ascendant and

nakshatra - you were born, which lord is posited in

which house, which planet is posited in which house or

Sign, Yogas formed in the chart and like that). They

apparently lack in programming the "thought process",

through which a typical Vedic astrologer is supposed

to go through - while assessing a horoscope.

 

For example:

 

Determination of the benefic and malefic planets in a

natal chart, after taking into consideration several

principles for determining the functional benefics and

malefics, as told by sage Parashara, and the

principles told in various other streams of Vedic

Jyotish to measure the exact benefic or malefic nature

of the planets in a natal chart. The relative

importance of various astrological parameters has to

be calibrated very carefully - as told in ancient

Vedic Jyotish texts.

 

Another example:

 

What will be the impact of Vimshottari-dashas on the

significations of 12 houses? A planet may be benefic

or malefic in general. It's vimsottari periods

(specially 'Antar-dashas' or 'sub-periods') will

provide results according to planet's beneficence (or

maleficence) determined through established Jyotish

principles. If a planet is highly benefic, it's

periods will normally provide desirable results in

most of the areas of one's life. Same is true for

reverse of it. A highly malefic planet's periods will

prove trying periods in most of the areas.

 

However, under a certain planetary period, not all the

areas of one's life gets affected in the same

direction. For some aspects of the life, you may feel

positive feeling, while at the same time, for some

aspects - you may feel negativity. Rest of the areas

may even remain totally un-affected.

 

For example, in a particular Vimshottari-dasha, one

may perform very well in his occupation. But during

the same period, he might remain a highly worried

person due to problems related to his children. On the

other hand, some areas may remain completely

un-affected - neither reporting better results nor

worsening. Another point to be noted here is that

though two life aspects may be affected in the same

direction (positive or negative) but 'quantum of the

effect' may be very different.

I have been really trying hard to put together some

things that other interpretive softwares either don't

have at all, or don't have enough of. I already have a

number of things in Vjyotish that I think you'll

appreciate, but I wanted to ask the list a few

questions...

What would you like to see more of in terms of

What are some of the key issues and themes do you

think should be addressed more in interpretive and

predictive astrological softwares?
