Guest guest
Afraid being out of subject, perhaps other may like it as much as I do. Being engaged and stress free at work" Chat with Sri Sri Ravishankar, Art of Living Foundation TSTR7: Guruji, how do you deal with the high level of expectations? Sri Sri Ravishankar: You do your level best that gives you satisfaction. TSTR7: What is the easiest way to get rid of stress in our daily life? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Know that your life is more than your activity and of course continue doing Kriya (Sudarshan Kriya) and meditation. JGDS: How do you envision the primary education need to be in India? What is the biggest drawback of the current education system that we need to address? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Making powerful personalities; instilling confidence and self-pride in the youth. Our education system needs to be more interactive and creative. Peacemaker: If you have to put three practical recommendations to combat violence in today's world, what would they be? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Rid your self of stress; Create a sense of belongingness by improving the communication; Prayer. VinodChhaproo: In spite of having a giving nature, why don't things come to me so easily? I give every bit of love, but at times, I don't get it back. Where am I going wrong and how do I ensure selfless love and one that is convincing? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Be centered and watch the magic. Soulmate: Playing politics to climb the corporate ladder seems to be a routine for some over-ambitious people...These are usually the people who are afraid to take on smarter competition and suffer from insecurity as well. How can we deal with the stress generated due to unethical deeds of such people, especially when you are an honest person who is just interested in his/her work? Sri Sri Ravishankar: You be honest and smart. There are many who think they are honest but they are foolish also. Short-term gain that people get through unethical means is not going to bring them happiness. Pras: Responsibility, commitment and ownership of the work obviously generates some stress/worry. So, how is it practically possible to be stress free at work? Sri Sri Ravishankar: The best way to handle is not to resist stress. It is OK to be stressed for a while, but don't let it be distress. Attention on spiritual matters like contemplating on truth in life will help. If it is a repeated occurrence, then you get used to those sort of stress. They stop bothering you! Longtimer: There is an organizational need and a personal need which are contradictory - We may ask an employee to work in place X where as he may like to work in place Y. Who should get precedence? How can an organization survive if it does not have its way and how does an employee live happily if his want is unfulfilled? Sri Sri Ravishankar: There is always a compromise. One has to weigh the situation and will have to sacrifice one for the other. Sacrifice will definitely bring a better result than being in a comfort zone. Baba: Namaskar! I have heard you saying, "focus on the Present". But both "Introspection" and "Planning" are unique virtues of humankind. Do you mean these are also our emotional baggage? Will we not become like animals if we live only for the present? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Nature has built you such that the more you live in the present moment, your memory sharpens and will stop bothering you... And your vision for the future becomes clearer. Animals have neither that sharp memory nor that clear future vision. SBansal: How do courses like "Art of Living" help in my career? Do these methods help in combating mental stress and pressure? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Of course. Millions of people have experienced this. Stressfree: Guruji, What are your views on the current generation spending too much time earning money or fame and having no time for himself/herself, the family and society at large? Is this trend going to kill the society? Sri Sri Ravishankar: An intelligent one awakens to this truth and averts the disaster before it happens. The less intelligent one goes through the misery and then stops doing it. The fool doesn't even know that he is dying. SL6920: Guruji, I am a mother of a three year old. My late hours at work leaves me with a guilty feeling that I am not spending time with my son. How do I handle this? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Whatever time you are spending, if it is quality time of learning for the child that is good enough. Pras: This is a "result-oriented" world. So how relevant is the age- old concept "Karmanye vaadhikaraste, maa phaleshu kadachana..." Sri Sri Ravishankar: These sayings are there to reduce your anxiety so that you can focus on the work better. The means are as important as the ends. If one is only thinking about the ends, and doesn't do anything about the means, he never reaches. Different sayings appearing to be completely contradictory are used at different times. Human: What do you think is the most valuable asset for a human being? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Broad awareness and deep roots. Perry: Jai Gurudev, why are we living? What's the point... continue to live because we have a life given by God??? What do we achieve ?? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Life is not all about achieving. It is about contributing. What have you contributed to the world or the people around you? These questions will bring meaning to your life. Shal: I want spirituality in my day-to-day life, but I see a marked disconnect. Find it very difficult to apply spirituality in this work atmosphere, especially managerial politics. Sri Sri Ravishankar: You don't need to make an effort to apply spirituality. Just be natural. A little bit of awareness will safeguard you against all odds. If you have no faith, at least you can take the unpleasant atmosphere as a challenge by invoking the valor in you. Jai: I want to just progress spiritually and I am not interested in any other things. Sri Sri Ravishankar: Good, but you have to attend to your responsibility as well. Lordangel: When do you think one should be satisfied? Sri Sri Ravishankar: At every step of progress, everyday. SEK: To enjoy work, should a person love the work? Rather than moving along with the crowd, how can a person find a work/job, which he really likes? Sri Sri Ravishankar: A job should be done with commitment. Otherwise, you will do the job when you enjoy and stop doing when you don't. Our likes and dislikes change so often. You can find real joy only in service. RSK: What is bliss according to you? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Myself Anu: For realization, we should have complete faith in Guru/God, mediation and ask only one question - "Who am I?". What would Guruji say about this? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Complete faith comes only after realization!! The whole world is gol gol and it is a catch 22 situation. Thesaint: Guruji, there are contradictory expectations from the various people in my life. How do I reconcile them? Sri Sri Ravishankar: With skill and patience. Yah: What is meditation? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Food for your soul. You need to learn. Hi: Why is it that more people crowd towards you? Do you have some supernatural power of healing? Sri Sri Ravishankar: I feel it is a natural power of healing. Love is the greatest healing power on the planet and I am that. Lilly: Guruji, what is the destination point in one's life? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Negate what is not your destination point and you will arrive at it. Hangar18: What can we do to stop all the war, hatred and jealousy among humans? How do we spread the message of peace, harmony and love? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Join the Art of Living volunteers. Their efforts in this direction are finding success. Devout: Contentment leads to stagnancy. But if you are contented, will it not lead to complacency? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Discontentment doesn't bring in creativity. If that were not so, the most stressed country should have become the most creative one - like Afghanistan which is ravaged by 25 years of war. Hangar18: A very difficult question. I know there's something special about you. But I'm trying to figure out what it is. Any help on that? I've heard that you'll call when the time is right. When do I meet you in person? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Good luck. Everyone is welcome. Myself: When any bad incident (be it official or personal) remains in the background all the time, how can we get rid of it? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Sadhana, Satsang and the company of the Guru can bring such a lasting impression, which would erase all the unwanted impressions. Sushilkumar: Is the "Take it Easy" policy the mantra of living? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Only when you are tired. Guest2468: Most of our stress is due to de-motivating words that we hear from superiors. How do we deal with such situations, when we are made to feel incompetent even after giving our best? Sri Sri Ravishankar: Take them with a smile. Being in a comfort zone all the time doesn't let you grow. Every comment or criticism should be well taken. And don't hold them in your heart. When you feel like a child, ready to learn, without any prestige issue or without trying to impress anybody, you will succeed. IS: Moderator, please ask Guruji about meditation. How can one do this? Is there any rule for doing so? Sri Sri Ravishankar: The classes are held on meditation in the Art of Living Foundation - couple of hours in 4 days you can learn meditation.
