This is where a negative in a negative yields positive, or "damage Control" for that area of life. Jyotish is primarily based on math and its inherent principles. Multiply: A positive and a positive yields positive... negative and positive yields negative (usually mixed results)... & a negative and a negative yields positive. H. R. Iyer backs this principle up in his 2 volume book "New Techniques of Prediction". A wonderful source for complete Jyotish. It is common sense that a retro planet is strong. It is closer to the earth, AND brighter in the sky or heavens. Thus a retro Mars will shine brighter to the witness's eyes, and thus draws more attention from our consciousness, thus more strongly affecting us. I have seen this work out in all charts.
