Some have names, certain "syndromes", and others have general names like "bi polar" etc. These things are real. To ask someone "are you nuts" shows a type of lack of awareness of the reality of mental illness. Mental illness, like any other illness, completely interrupts the normal operations of a part of the body and substitutes troubles or incorrect operations. For example, normally the lungs breath quiety. However, a couph makes the lungs make an unusual and diseased sound, that others can hear. Mental illness makes the mind make an unusual and troubled sound, that others can hear. It's not different. Those who suffer mental illness are not always coughing, as asphma patients are not always coughing. Mental illness is complex, and is being studied and categorized by real scientiests with real data and real tests. Progress is being made. Genetic links are being found. This is real stuff. So to say "are you nuts" is speaking from an old and uninformed paradigm, probably recevied from society at some base and uninformed level.
