Guest guest
hello everyone, There seems to be a doubt that i have been carrying all these years with me.Astrology is a very old science and it predictive capabilities depend on the exact position of planets in the horizon at one's birth. But most of the planets we talk about like saturn, jupiter etc were found out few centuries ago, so how could the old seers calculate their correct position with regard to one's horoscope. mani
Guest guest
Dear Mani The movements of the visible planets have been known for thousands of years .. Eclipses were predicted at the time of Krishna 5000 years ago . I think you are confusing Uranus , Neptune and Pluto that have only been dicovered in the last 300 years and do not form a part of traditional Vedic astrology ..Traditionally a vedic astrologer had to be expert in Sanskrit , Astronomy and Mathematics so it was a very elite subject matter . Hope this helps Nicholas - "cee_mani" <cee_mani <gjlist> Sunday, July 06, 2003 12:19 AM [GJ] one doubt > > hello everyone, > > There seems to be a doubt that i have been carrying > all these years with me.Astrology is a very old science and it > predictive capabilities depend on the exact position of planets in > the horizon at one's birth. Guest guest
Om Namo Narayanaya, Dear Mani, See Yoga Sutras- Vibhuti Pada... Maharishi Patanjali speaks of the technique called Samyama where one may congize solar lokas, lunar lokas and Bhu Mandala with Pole Star.. They were Sages with Jyoti Mati Pragya, or fully enlightened consciousness.. Guest guest
Dear Nicholas, The planets cannot be seen with the naked eye.Today we have high powered telescopes and satellites.Modern astronomy is so advanced that you can have an advance ephemeris for hundreds of years OR you can calculate the exact planetary position for a date centuries back. This was not the case thousands of years back. Mani has asked a good question -- How did they do it then? In those days, they didn't even have clocks. So how did they know the exact time of birth? How did they calculate ascendant? Today scientific tools are helping us to know these things.Time can be known exactly down to the last second. You can know the position of a planet exactly down to the tiniest fraction of a degree. So in a way, astrology is dependent on scientific tools. If you didn't have these tools, astrology wouldn't work. But in those days you didn't have these facilities. So surely they must have been using different means then. Perhaps,in those days you had a lot of spiritually advanced people with yogic powers (like yogi karve) who could tell you things using their powers? vivek. Guest guest
Dear Mr Vivek/Mr. Nicholas/Mr Mani and all, Let me clarify Mr Mani's querry detailed as under: >>>>Astrology is a very old > science and > >it > > > predictive capabilities depend on the exact > position of > >planets in > > > the horizon at one's birth. But most of the > planets we talk > >about > > > like saturn, jupiter etc were found out few > centuries ago, so > >how > > > could the old seers calculate their correct > position with > >regard to > > > one's horoscope.>>>>>>>>> Through the movements of the planets, the old seers were calculating the position of planets in the horizon at one's birth. Planets may be the old but they follow certain formulae in regard to their respective movements. Old seers, through their sacred vision, could be able to visualise this and laid down it in various old vedic-astro texts, which you can very well get-through. Now clarification to Mr Vivek's massage: Will you agree Mr Vivek, whatever, technologically we have developed in order to find out correct planetary position of centuries back or ahead, is not more than what ancient scholors were foundout only through their sacred vision and there are still many things leftin the old vedic texts revealing various noble collection of ancient seers, which are yet to be, investigated with our sophisticated so-called technological advanced tools and hope this will lead to invention of third-science, which will be universally accepted. Further clarification to Mr. Nicholas, In my openion, Mr Nicholas, Mr Mani, is very much clear about his querry, he never asked about the recent and oldest discoveries, in fact, he wanted to know about the formulae, through which the seers used to calculate the planetary movements, which is, in my openion, nothing less then what these modern astronomers discovered with the help of high valued technologies and the ancient formulae is pretty wellmentioned in vedic tests like Suryasiddhanta written by Barahamihira etc.which Mr Mani can refer to, in order to know how the seers used to calculate. I may be excused if I have gone out of way in explaining, however, I have taken it just for a matter of discussion, any comments/suggessions in this regard may be highly appreciated. With best wishes, P K Tripathy. --- Vivek <keviv90 wrote: > Dear Nicholas, > The planets cannot be seen with the naked eye.Today > we have high > powered telescopes and satellites.Modern astronomy > is so advanced > that you can have an advance ephemeris for hundreds > of years OR > you can calculate the exact planetary position for a > date > centuries back. > This was not the case thousands of years back. > Mani has asked a good question -- How did they do it > then? > In those days, they didn't even have clocks. So how > did they know > the exact time of birth? How did they calculate > ascendant? > Today scientific tools are helping us to know these > things.Time > can be known exactly down to the last second. You can > know the > position of a planet exactly down to the tiniest > fraction of a > degree. So in a way, astrology is dependent on > scientific tools. If > you didn't have these tools, astrology wouldn't work. > But in those days you didn't have these > facilities. So surely they > must have been using different means then. > Perhaps,in those days you had a lot of spiritually > advanced people > with yogic powers (like yogi karve) who could tell > you things > using their powers? > vivek. > > On Sun, 06 Jul 2003 Nicholas wrote : > >Dear Mani > >The movements of the visible planets have been > known for > >thousands of years > >. Guest guest
Dear Vivek > The planets cannot be seen with the naked eye. According to the Melbourne Planetarium website Uranus was discovered by William Herschel in 1781, thus becoming the first planet to be discovered since ancient times. It is the first of three planets beyond Jupiter which are not visible to the naked eye from Earth. It is a Gas Giant, though much smaller than Jupiter and Saturn. Thus my understanding is that the 7 Vedic planets are able to be seen by the naked eye . The nodes are then derived by calculation .
