Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone out there could possibly

help me with this.

Prasna Jyotish, also known as Horary Astrology, has a

very long history in Vedic Astrology and India. Many

jyotishis, yesterday and today, often make use of it

in the place of natal charts to answer questions and

deal with situations. I am endeavouring to learn this

myself, and I do have a few books on the subject, but

for the most part, I am in the dark. I need someone's

assistance on this.

Exactly how does one go about using Prasna? In the

exact same ways one does a natal chart, that is to

say, do the usual yogas and the like apply? Or are

there more specific rules to observe?

Raman, in his translation of Prasna Tantra, seems to

be of the belief that one has to apply differing rules

than that which would be the case for natal charts.

The anthology editied by the late Rick Houck, Hindu

Astrology Lessons, gives a totally different method

than that which is seen in Raman's work earlier

mentioned. In the book, Light on Life, deFouw

suggests, during a discussion on the birth chart of

Albert Einstein, that many of the usual rules that

pertain to natal charts are to be applied to the

horary chart as well.

So I'm in something of a funk. Is there anyone out

there, skilled in Prasna Jyotish, that can help me

out?

Thanks!

Salaam,

Mu

Hello Mu,

As with everything else in astrology, Prasna chart readings are

intuitive. I would ask you to follow the method that you are most

comfortable with.

Prasna relies a lot on the position of the Moon and functional

lordships. You need to have a good grasp of things like directions

specified by each sign, planets etc. Then look at the dominant

influence in the chart, and how it affects the current situation.

Personally speaking, I do look at the aspects, yogas in the chart,

but not in the same way that they may be applied in a natal chart. A

Moon-Mars conjunction has a different connotation in Prasna ( for

me ) than it does in natal chart.

My sincere suggestion would be to first start analysing the Prasna

chart for any queries that you have in mind, and observe the dynamics.

A lot of truths will unfold themselves, but its not going to happen

if you don't start:)

Best Wishes,

K.
