If a planet rules both a trine and quadrant,he becomes a yogkaraka -- that is fully good.ex: mars for cancer/leo,saturn for taurus/libra. If a planet rules a trine 5/9 he is benefic --- note that if a planet rule one trine and an inauspicious house,trine rulership overrules the other.the planet is benefic.ex: jupiter for aries ruling 9th and 12th(a dusthana) If a natural benefic rules a kendra (quadrant) he gives bad results If a natural malefic rules a kendra,he gives good results. PLEASE NOTE that the above rules should be used to find the planets basic disposition towards your lagna.There are other rules too like the planets position in the chart,exaltation/debilitation or being in mooltrikon or own sign,combustion,etc. I am writing this because some members on this list recently asked how to judge whether a planet is benefic or malefic for you. vivek.
