If you calculate the movement of Rahu and Ketu you will see that the true, rather than mean, movement of these nodes does indeed undulate frequently. They make a snakelike movement in the heavens and may go retrograde and direct more than once each month. It is interesting to compare the transits between the mean and true movement. Different Vedic astrology programs use different calculations to come to that mean motion.
