Guest guest
Dear Anna It is a complex subject . The traditional viewpoint is that the trines are highly benefic and the quadrants neutral . The second is also somewhat neutral but is also deemed maraka or death inflicting period if the person's longevity has expired . The rest are considered malefic . However there are riders on all this . Consider the 11th Lord . Under SA this is considered good for helping the native make friends , earn income and fulfil their desires which is all true from that perspective . However since this is also the 6th lord from the 6th it can also be associated with health problems . In another sense ( Like a Buddhist perspective for example) desires are insatiable and the attempt to constantly fulfil them can implicate one more and more in unhappiness ( as seen in many cases of film and rock stars , wealthy people etc.) . So houses have positive and negative meanings attached to them .Even the 8th house which is considered most malefic has at least 20 positive meanings . Defining them as benefic or malefic is a shorthand method and depends somewhat on the perspective of the astrologer . SA is a good system to learn . With respect to Jupiter transitting over your Lagna because Jupiter is a slow moving planet this can often signify some sort of change in life ( irrespective of Lagna) which can be unsettling . Hope this helps Nicholas - jb gjlist ; vedic astrology Tuesday, February 18, 2003 8:40 AM [GJ] Functional malefics/benefics Hi to all listers, What is your opinion/experience on this issue? Guest guest
-Sorry Listers for double messages- technical problem- Dear Nicholas, Thank you for your response. Yes I know it’s complex, for the reasons you mentioned that are always good to hear over and over again, and mixed results are the rule in astrology, which makes it art/or craft?(smile). Even if we ‘forget’ other influences /other tr’s, doshas, natal, etc/ and for the sake of discussion single out just one factor, it’s complex still, as you nicely pointed out. I’ve studied traditional approach intensively, and as you said, more of ‘positive’ /common usage of the term/ would be expected. I somehow wasn’t attracted to SA before, but tend not to ignore new info- if under different other circumstances, at least ‘typical’ manifestations described by SA appeared, it’s worth noting. Thank you Nicholas for your input and opinion. I will explore SA further, for sure.
