Guest guest
Dear List, first I would like to introduce myself, I’m brasilian and am studying vedic astrology for almost one year now. Since there is only one Vedic Astrology book in portuguese, I have some problems with getting information (I have to order books from the states, which is very expensive). I discovered Das Goravani’s site in a Meeta Ravindra CD with the planets mantras. It’s the best site on Vedic Astrology I’ve ever visited. It’s very clear and very, very inspiring. I've read just about everything thats on it. But I decided to write you all because I have an issue with destiny. Das has really good arguments in his article about destiny, but I felt strange after I read it. It’s like, no matter what I do it won’t matter, since everything is already planned. I wouldn't like to believe in destiny, and I keep trying not to, but sometimes I dream with things that are going to happen and astrology also keeps showing me that our lives are already "written" when we are born. I have problems with my job. Almost everything goes wrong in this field of my life. Not that I don’t have a job (I was never unemployed), but either I have a terrible boss, or I have to work 12 to 14 hours or I have nothing to do, and so on. Plus, I don’t like the environment (I’m a financial analyst), the way things are done in the business world. I feel like I don’t fit. It seems like I just can’t work normally like the other people around me, just to make money, buy things and live my life. My husband was transferred two times to a different city and at both times I thought I was going to get rid of my job and try something different, because my company wouldn’t have a position for me at that city, but then someone comes in saying that they need exactly someone like me to work in that city. And when I get there the job is nothing that they promised me and I hate it. Sometimes I think I would rather quit, but then people say to me that one needs money, etc. Besides, I don´t know what I could do. I don’t like working with marketing or finance, but also don’t know in what I would like to work or in which field working wouldn’t be such a harass. When I started working I thought that just making money would be motivating enough to keep me in my job. But besides not making much money, I don’t think that if I had a great promotion it would motivate me. It also happens with me things like: I was going to get promoted and the firm cancels all promotions, I was going to get a raise and then they I’m not eligible, and so on. So weird... So I’m always trying to think what could I do, in what could I work, what kind of job would make me happy, in what kind of job things would work right. But I just can’t find the answer. My astrologer says that she doesn’t see any job changes in my map. I’m desperate. What should I do? Accept that I will always be unhappy in my job and everyday will be endlessly boring? If destiny says that there´s no change, should I fight it? Should I just give up? That’s too sad... Normally I would keep trying to change this situation. But if it is “written” in my map and I can’t change it, why should I try? Could my astrologer be wrong? Could anyone help me? I was born in december 21st 1971 at 7:10 am Thanks. --- UOL, o melhor da Internet http://www.uol.com.br/
Guest guest
Rosa - I felt just about the same way you did about the Freewill article... I felt a little knock off my rocker so to speak ... honestly I can see what he is trying to say .. at least in my opinion .. freewill still exists, but you can either go the path the right way one foot in front of the other or you can go kicking and screaming ... I don't think everyday has been planned, but I do think the obstacles in our lives are predetermined to a certain point .. and by certain point I go back to the one foot in front of the other or kicking and screaming .... As for your job ... if you hate your job go on to something else ...maybe your astrologer does not see a job change, but can you really change a job just because the planets and stars move?? no it takes work .. maybe you should ask her is it a good time to make a job change ?? or just do it ... go out on a limb =-) I believe a lot of the obstacles in our paths are fear based and the kicking and screaming is making excuses not to do something ... face the fear (if that is what it is) .... Good luck to you .... Guest guest
Das spieleth on these here matters... We go on because we have to. There is only one alternative to going on, in life, and that's death, which may possibly not even exist, may only be a gateway to a new body, including ghost body possibilities. So going on is actually a requirement, period. There really is no way to die. So, we have to go on. So, do we want to make it somewhat nice, possibly even joyful, or, do we want to complain forever, and be miserable, be unhealthy, etc. That's what it's come down to for me. I'm experienced with severe depression. It's ultimately a complain game, an avoidance of what we see as inevitable, a childish foot stomping moment, a way of making it seem like our problems lie outside ourselves. We all have varying levels of gifts. Things we have. Earned and inborn. They vary. One persons "it's not enough" is OPULANCE to another who is poorer, but this has no matter to us personally, for only finding peace in our own lives, in our own skin, inside our own perception of our own life, is going to work for us. Like, nobody can excercise for you, including emotionally. So, we have to go on, with what we have. Everybody suffers these emotional doubts, depressions, etc., to one degree or another. Those of us who suffer it more are just gifted in that way. ;-) When we surrender to our lives as they are right now, and work in the present moment with the present situation, we are open then to noticing God working with us, sending us clues, hints, gifts, etc. When we think "this just sucks" all the time, then we don't notice anything, just like, when you smoke cigarettes, you do so for a sense of relief, but that clogs your ability to smell and taste, so life gets more tasteless. So similarly, being "down" actually has other side effects which make us more down. Getting on the path of joy, which means, to live on the feelings you can generate inside you REGARDLESS of external circumstances, then you can start to have a life with more taste in it again. I strayed far from the path of joy, and found the path of fulfillment, pleasure, to be deadly and never ending in it's winding to pain and hell. In the Vedas and Druidic teachings it is taught, that there is a path of joy, and a path of pleasure. Pleasure includes plans, hopes, wishes, desiring things, wanting better, wishing it were different, etc. The path of joy includes the moment, the now, the present, you, your feelings and thoughts, and what you make of it. It's your thoughts, that drive what goes on inside your skin. Joy includes recognition of divine interweaving between all things in all moments, hence it includes astrology. Astrology lives only on the path of joy, and is feared on the path of pleasure. Your perception, of life, containing either happiness or remorse, is generated from inside you alone. This is the domain of free will. Free will is the perception of self. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, what matters is you must be in it forever. You are going to be "self" eternally, and so, you need to feel good about it. So, waking up to "this all sucks" is actually a gift, because it pushes you beyond seeking happiness in the stuff that sucks, and pushes you into the realm of inner self, where it can be a palace. Inside your mind it can be whatever you are capable of thinking it is. Willing properly means to will to cooperate with the powerful beautiful energies around you. If you don't want to cooperate with that in which you live, then of course you'll be miserable. We live in it, we have to cooperate with it, the material energy. The material energy is like Mother. She is caring, in two ways, higher and lower. Lower is that she'll provide so long as you're dumb, a child, unlearned. Higher way is that she has beauty, knowledge and abilities which the child is not aware of, which come out more as you mature and cooperate with her real higher nature. This is the path. You're on it. Taking stock, and shelter, in your commitment to work good, be good, be cooperative, be enlightened, be strong, active, meditative, aware, good hearted, and so on, developing this, your subtle body, is your life and soul, on the path of joy. The intellectual discussion re. free will, whether it exists, whether determinism is complete or not, goes on and on. Sri Caitanya called it "acintya", inconceivable, incomprehensible. It's hard for the small limited souls to fathom the workings of the whole, for being inside it, playing inside it, is called Lila, or play, in Sanskrit, because it is in ignorance of the whole. There are pastimes in the 10th canto of Bhagavat Purana which show how once the "mother" of Krishna looked in his mouth and saw all of creation. She then looked away, no wanting to know he was God, for that would ruin the fun of being his mother. It's like that in life. Too much talk of inconceivable huge affairs is out for us small players. Doesn't do us any good. Because you are eternal, with no options, and uncomfortable in your skin right now, with no options, so it seems, except self mastery. Learn how to generate happiness chemicals inside yourself with thought. That is a very great achievement. Learn how to be happy, by yourself, has been my lesson. It's getting better. I am practicing what I'm writing about here, finally. I love you all for discussing these matters. Peace, I return to my work, which is going really well. Email everything, right from the software (done) Email jpegs of any window, directly, no switching, no messing with files (done) Save jpegs of any window (done) OSX Port, done Many other things... it's going along well. How about: Time to make alpha version installers... I will always be alive with you, as I have realized, or try to, that you are there, always, forever, for me. Developing ourselves, is our work, for today, for ever... always has been. We are all together, eternally. So back to it... Das
Guest guest
Here's another perspective regarding destiny: Have you ever decided to read a book, watch a movie or a play (Romeo and Juliet is one example) even though you know what's going to happen? Maybe you've read or watched a video about a certain person, place or thing? Do you say "well I've watched that and I know all about it so now I don't need to experience it". I feel that each of us makes a huge contribution in the planning of our soul's script for this life. When we our creating our specific life plan we are in spirit. Coming into this material plane is what makes the journey of destiny ab soul lutely unique and from the larger perspective "exciting". The three dimensions, the body with it's minimal of 5 senses, feelings, emotions are just some of the myraid of ways destiny is made into something we as souls can't wait to "experience". I too have felt, seen and heard glimpses from future occurances. I used to feel hopeless and depressed because of it. I tried and tried to block out this ability. Then I discovered astrology. I also experienced deeper levels of silence and stillness through meditation. And now I feel alot more full, connected and complete. Let destiny take it's course. It will open your eyes to knowing you are home... and we all know "there's no place like home." > > > > >"rosa.frazao" <rosa.frazao > > >gjlist > > >gjlist > > >[GJ] Destiny > > >Thu, 26 Dec 2002 17:27:53 -0200 > > > > > >Dear List, first I would like to introduce myself, I'm > > >brasilian and am studying vedic astrology for almost one year > > >now. > > >Since there is only one Vedic Astrology book in portuguese, I > > >have some problems with getting information (I have to order > > >books from the states, which is very expensive). Guest guest
Rosa, I believe that the 'stars (planets) impel they do NOT compel". If we abrogate our right to fend for our selves we are going against God's intention of making us co creators with him. To explain this I would like to mention a 'wakeup call' I got whilst undergoing major head surgery. I came too after the operation realizing that I had been told something very profound. I had seen how and why God had ordered the Universe. I In the beginning God was absolute and alone; he was so closed in that he barely realized he existed. So he projected thought outward and by mind manifested the building blocks of the universe which coalesced into stars, planets etc. He later created seas, plants, trees, etc. Viewing these he realized that he had become more aware of himself. He then created creatures and made himself even more aware as he followed their roaming around. However he realized that it was just a projection, something like us looking at a TV or cinema screen. He wanted to be even more aware of himself so he took an animal and gave it a soul - a part of God himself. He then gave this animal man free will. This made God even more aware of himself because he no longer controlled this man; and this interaction with man with all his possibilities for imperfection but also the possibility for Godhead, gave God the ultimate realization of himself. So we are vital to God he needs us to fully realize himself. Regarding the problems of the world, and the problems we experience personally, these are necessary as if everything was joy, and you had never experienced fear or pain you would not realize joy for what it is, as there would be no yardstick to measure it by. The 'trick' is moving on after seeing the darker side. This is done by setting your highest ideal and KNOWING that as a part of God you can achieve your goal. The way to achieve it is not by supplication or begging prayers to God, but is to THANK GOD for ALREADY HAVING what is your ideal because it is already in your soul ready to manifest when you make a decision to change. This revelation occurred to me over 30 years ago. I would like to be able to say that I took it on board and have been on the right path ever since. Whilst it never left me I have been slow in putting it into practice, and it is was only later in life that I realized I had to put into practice what I was shown. Incidentally, someone mentioned to me that this idea was also in ancient Eastern scripture. If anyone knows where I would appreciate the reference. Also having told my wife about this some years ago, she pointed out to me recently that this was the cornerstone of a book she was reading 'Conversations with God' by Neale Donald Walsche printed by Hodder. Coming back to astrology I would suggest that astrology does NOT show immutable events. It shows trends. How you react to these trends will determine whether an event will manifest or not. This could be simply having a positive attitude to a potential negative situation, or it could be relocating to somewhere else to avoid malefic indications. Guest guest
This talk of free will and destiny reminds me of this teaching: There are 3 kinds of doers(do-ers) Sattvic Rajasic Tamasic Sattvic doers are not attached to the outcome of their actions. They simply do what is to be done and move on. Successful or not they remain peaceful, joyful etc.. Rajasic doers are completely attached to the outcome of their actions. In fact they are attached to it even before they act! So they are very happy when they get the desired results and very miserable when they do not Tamasic doers are always miserable in their actions. They complain "Why me...Do I have to...". They are so inert, taking action is painful. In our lives, just look and see where on is a Sattvic doer, Rajasic doer, or a Tamasic doer. I am reminded of this because, it is only when we are caught up in doership(Rajas,Tamas) that these questions of destiny and free will arise. When we drop doership(Sattva), then these questions are meaningless. In other words, when we put our attention on the effort and not the outcome, we avoid alot of misery. Well at least that is my experience. Jai Guru Dev Andy

But, we're not able to drop doership easily, so the questions remain around, namely, what am I, why am I here, should I try to accomplish, what if I fail, and ad infinitum ad nauseum. The path of Gyan, knowledge, (jnan), helps us to become convinced, so that we can surrender (saranagati). Once we fully surrender, then we can let things go. Until then, we may need to be convinced by logic, reason, and arguments on various points. We have to "undo" the web of illusion, often, before we can surrender. Guest guest
Dear Andy Thank you for this. It reminded me of a client. She and her husband worked very hard and sold a consulting business just before the decline of that market a few years ago. Her husband is a happy fellow. Totally interested in doing and enjoying life...a very strong Guru (Jupiter). She was very fearful. She was afraid that if she did not find a way to give away a certain amount of the money that it would be taken from them. She was not interested in the giving, only in the keeping! I suggested that she start giving her time and see where that would take her. I could not tell her that giving away money that she did not want to give would guarantee their continued prosperity. I could tell her that by giving of herself she would be able to feel abundant. smiles c - "Andy Nunberg" <andyn <gjlist> Friday, December 27, 2002 7:09 AM Re: [GJ] Destiny > This talk of free will and destiny reminds me of this teaching: > > There are 3 kinds of doers(do-ers) > Sattvic > Rajasic > Tamasic > > Sattvic doers are not attached to the outcome of their actions.
