Dear Listers

Thankyou to Andrew ,Cynthia and Goravani for nice replies that showed

understanding for my feelings on this matter .

If I could add one point it would be on the subject of remedial measures .

My wife performs daily the traditional remedial measure of putting out fresh

water for the birds . As Andrew would know the last few days in Melbourne

have been hot and we daily get visited by many birds seeking relief for

their thirst or taking a bath .

If they empty the bird bath having a bath my wife will refill it .

The real purpose of such remedials is not to get relief from karma (although

this may be a by product) but to improve one's consciousness ,to become

attuned to the needs of others and to be conscious of areas where one may

have offended in the past so as to avoid offending in the present .

Hope this is helpful

Dear Nicholas and Andrew

Perhaps we are on the same wave afterall, Andrew. I also fill and refill

the birdbath and feed the birds twice daily. I do not do that for karma but

for the joy of the experience. I have neighbors who dislike the pigeons, I

love them and all the other birds who come with them.

Perhaps those on this list could come up with simple measures that help a

person dealing with difficult transits. I often recommend gardening, and

planting bulbs for someone in grief. They have something to tend to outside

their grief and something to look forward too. I also recommend repainting

a room. Change the scenery if you will.

Why not see what we can come up with?

I would consider growing something you can eat, like a vegetable of some kind,

or perhaps some peppers to add some spice back into your life. Positive action

in the face

of adversity usually helps it pass.

Another route is to grow sprouts and eat them fresh. They have a lot of prana

and

can give you a "boost" when you are feeling lowest. There is a great mixture on

the

Yoga Institute site at http://www.yogainstitute.org/recipe.htm using sprouts and

the breakfast

meal of sprouted moong, raisins, yogourt, honey, and jaggery will definitely get

your

attitude up. The recommendation of making your food from scratch so it only has

your positive energies also comes to mind.

Basking is another technique. Find a room or an area outside that has plenty of

sunlight.

Spend 20-30 minutes just sitting with your eyes closed in the sun. This,

scientifically,

increases the amount of Vitimin D in the body and helps combat depression. Use

full spectrum bulbs, if it is winter.

Take a long warm bath with pure essences. I suggest White Cedar, Sage, and

possibly Camomile

or Eucalyptus. This is best done in the evening with sleep following.

Allow yourself to sleep more when you are suffering, but don't overdo it. Add

about an

hour or an afternoon / evening nap of about an hour to help your body recover

from

the grief / depression effects. These emotions are very hard on a person

physically as

well as emotionally, and sleep allows the body to recover and the subconscious

to sort

things out and gain perspective.

Give yourself permission to grieve. This may mean retreating to a room or a

spiritual retreat

for a period of time. Let yourself empty the emotions without repressing them.

They will lessen

as the immediate emotions are discharged. Bottling them up causes even more

problems.

Grief becomes less as it is stylized, this is why we have funerals. The

survivors repeat the

life and death of the person over and over until it becomes a ritual. By

repeatedly facing it,

the grief becomes less frightening and eventially it dissipates.

Dear Cynthia and Narinder

Here are some ideas on remedial measures for persons for whom Saturn's

energies have become problematic .

Saturn represents old, stagnant ,decaying things (in Phala Dapika Saturn is

described as 100 years old ) .

Now to reduce those types of energies here are some suggestions ;

Moon represents new clothes and Saturn old clothes so one could buy some new

clothes .

Get rid of junk and clean up any mess that has been allowed to accumulate

around the house .

Get rid of weeds and other useless plants and plant flower or fruit

producing plants .

Make new iniatives in relationships that have deteriorated or stagnated .

Saturn also represents the working class so those that have employees or

subordinates can do some act of kindness to them or speak some appreceation

for their labours ..

Saturn's colour is black .Sometimes I see people wearing nothing but black

..They could change to some lighter ,brighter colour .

Saturn also represents old people .Sometimes these people feel lonely or

isolated their friends and family having moved on . Often there is one in

your street .One can make an effort to befriend them or invite them out on

an outing.Other old people have problems with mobility that a younger more

active person can help with . Devotees of Krishna could invite an older

neighbour to a temple and take good care of them .

The overall concept is to be aware of how different energies play themselves

out in life and to be conscious of the needs ,concerns and interests of

others so as to create healthy energies around oneself .

Hope this helps

Nicholas
